Hybrid Play acts as a link between traditional games and digital video games, setting up a new kind of game especially designed to adapt to urban environments, whose main components are physical exercise and children’s social interaction (and parent’s).

Hybrid Play is a device that transforms playgrounds into interactive game scenarios. A wireless sensors transforms the playground game elements into physical interfaces to control smartphone videogames. It’s specifically designed for recreational equipment like the swings, the slide, or the seesaw. Movement is registered by the sensors and a custom software transforms this data in actions to control the digital game such as walking, jumping, running or turning. Hybrid Play combines physical and digital interaction to create open air game experiences by merging digital game strategies with street game dynamics, verbal and corporal communication as well as team playing.
