Shadowrun Returns for Android
Runs great on my Galaxy S5, and if I could read the text without a magnifying glass I would definitely play it. Maybe one day I will, if I ever get a tablet...or an update comes along with the option to enlarge the text (hint hint). I guess I shouldn't have bypassed the system requirements before purchasing, but it was only $2 and some change so I'm not too angry.
So far I haven't gone very far into the game so I can't review that but I can say I wish there was some online sync feature. With things like google drive and Dropbox, I wish we could upload our save files to download to other devices. As an avid android user with 1 phone and 2 tablets, I wish I could jump between devices on the fly... Other than that great game
I love the game. The gameplay: outstanding! The story: outstanding! The platform? Could be better, it's a lot of reading on a screen even as big as the note phones. If it had the ability to use the S pen it would be better, but sadly that doesn't work. So I find myself accidentally making a lot of "very close to the selection I thought I pressed" choices, because I can't be as accurate as I want to me. However playing on a tablet? A lot easier...
I would LOVE to play this high quality, premium, game for much longer than 30 minutes at a time. But I can't. Because my eyes start hurting from the tiny tiny font. I'm sure the devs intended for this to be played on a tablet, but c'mon. Give us phone users some love too! I'll change this to 5 stars after the game is updated.
I've thoroughly enjoyed this little gem. Eye-catching artwork, interesting storyline and enjoyable gameplay. Character development options are plenty and adds some replay value. Played on Galaxy Tab 10.1 so I don't have issues with small fonts like others using their phones do. The game is very slow to save and load but I haven't had any crashes like others report. Some lag noticed during gameplay. Would give this a 5 star if I could save and load faster and interact with the environment more.
I played the original Sega Genesis version when I was a kid and have been a fan ever since. I've been waiting for a good sequel and here it finally is. Only downside to the game in my opinion is not being able to do many side missions aka shadow runs. This was one of my favorite aspects to the original as it is for many other fans as well I'm sure. Hopefully in future versions this will be taken into concideration. UPDATE~ So I just read the sequel is coming to android in October. Wiz, keep em coming!
I have an issue. Basically the game loads up fine on my HTC One M8 until it gets to the character creation screen at which point it cannot go further. I can see the options to choose male or female and race but there is just a black box on the right of the screen and no picture of what I am choosing. Also no way to continue or go back....just have to hit home button to get to home screen tip exit. Any ideas?
I was really enjoying this game while I was playing it. Great writing, decent if a bit simple combat, interesting characters. The reason I am giving it one star is because of the game breaking bug at the *mild spoilers ahead* brotherhood HQ which prevents progress. It's been like this for months. I emailed the dev shortly after release and they said that they would fix it but there has been no progress. Really disappointing. Played on 2012 nexus 7 EDIT: DEVELOPER had apparently fixed the issue
Worked fine and was great fun on my Galaxy S3 (though readability and heating are an issue on phones). Does not work on my new tablet, that is, it closes a few seconds after starting so I can't even reach the main menu, and I don't know why. Is it because of the new Android version I got on the tablet (5.0.2., I think )? Please fix this. I really enjoy Shadowrun but it's difficult to play on the phone and does not work at all on the tablet.
Easily one of the greatest games I have ever played on android, or console for that matter! I was slightly annoyed by the lack of open world, but the story was engaging enough that I soon forgot about it. This game was worth ten times what I paid for it, I hope the devlopers and studio continue to make games of this quality in the future. P.S.-Some people have mentioned fan/community made levels using current game assets. I bet you guys could make something like that.
This game is great! It hearkens back to the SNES days and feels like it. The ONLY qualm I have is while playing the game if you get a phone call it totally crashes your game and you have to start all over. Aside that its fantastic and would like to see it expand further like to platform. Maybe on PS network or such. Its too good to stay just on iPhone. Great job again!
I am loving the game so far. I owned the pen and paper RPG back in the day and loved that as well. Everything works as it should on the technical side of things (using a Kobo Arc 10HD). The art style is really nicely done, the writing is superb and the game mechanics are also very solid. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for an old school RPG experience using turn based combat and wants to experience a sci-fi/fantasy RPG set in a lore-filled world. Great job so far guys and I will be looking forward to any other projects that Harebrained Studios will be developing in future. Definitely a must buy, if the abovementioned points tickle your fancy.
I've been waiting for a game worthy of the name for a long time and I'm thrilled that it is finally here. I'm playing it for the first time now but expect to play repeatedly to try multiple character classes and alternative decisions. Thank you Harebrain and your Kickstarter supporters. UPDATE: Please include additional missions or ability to load community created ones. I've beaten this one mission with every archetype and it's gotten very old.
I am having a blast playing this game. I've played the 16-bit games for the Genesis and SNES and Shadowrun Returns enhances almost everything like writing, music, and visuals. I'm do remember the SNES version as slightly led linear because you could roam around town. In this game, you follow a fairly straight path and don't venture through town much. Will update when I complete the game, but I've been playing for a few days now and loving it. My PS3 is getting lonely.
I love the game… shadowrun in general. But i beat the game get all this extra karma and a hundred grand, cycle through the end credits (which took like 10 mins… small team ha) then nothing. Cant buy or spend karma. Game just ends. I want to start a new game with my old character… pts, cash and equipment. Send me a code to put in for that. Til then 1 star… really 5 though, but still
Bought on my phone and it was impossible to read. Tried it on my sisters 8" tablet and it was better, but still really tiny. Just played through it on a Samsung NotePro and it was perfect! Seems strange to have made the text so small considering how many people will be able to actually enjoy it, but if you do have a big screen to play on it's amazing!
I loved the original Shadowrun on SNES so I had to try this one. It seemed a little bit short but was fun none the less. I vould buy ot again and I hope they make another one. I played it on my Samsung S3 and it was a little bit slow to load sometimes. No big deal, I'm just glad it worked well.
This game is actually very awesome. Great art with all the characters. The story and writing was very interesting. If I had anything to say it is that every once in a while it would lag for a moment. I made sure I had nothing else running. Oh and the font is incredibly small, even on my galaxy note 4. The story was so interesting I don't mind reading it, maybe just make it bigger and let us scroll through as we read? Still awesome game.
Absolutely loved the game and the gameplay! Final boss seemed too easy. Long loading screens. Need more costumes! ☺ and definitely, most importantly, MORE THAN ONE CAMPAIGN IS NEEDED!!! What's the point in gaining so much at the end if you can't use it!? But amazing game though, captured me right into the story ☺
Really well executed piece of old school RPG nostalgia. Game world and plot feel well realised and compelling. Gameplay mechanics are fun and work nicely on an Android device, although perhaps a little small on my phone screen. Hadn't heard of the Shadowrun universe before but it's well showcased here. Would bang again.
This is a fantastic old-school RPG (think Fallout, Arcanum) based in the Shadowrun universe (think Bladerunner meets Dungeons and Dragons). The game is fairly linear and can be completed in about 6 hours, but this makes it tightly focused, well-written, compelling and encourages replayability (also it means there are no fetch-quests padding out the length). The standalone sequel is also very good but this is the place to start. The graphics are beautiful on my Nvidia Shield and the touchscreen interface perfect. My only complaint? Like all decent PC-Android ports this consumes battery at an alarming rate.
Runs great on my G3. Decent interface, though combat could be better. Nice to be able to save anywhere. But the text font is just ridiculously small. I had to stop playing 20 minutes in because my eyes hurt so much. It would also be nice to have a full screen and keep screen on option
Shadowrun Returns is one of the best games I've played in years, a super solid isometric RPG that brings fond memories of neverwinter nights and ice wind dale. Already have it on PC but I'm buying it again just to support Hairbrained Schemes. Here's hoping for another amazing DLC like Dragon Fall!
First I'm using a Asus meMo pad 8 and it works great. I played cyberpunk along time before this ever came out and now so happy I have my Android tablet to enjoy this master piece. Great story, graphics, options on speed of text, music. Love the character build. Six classes to choose from. Great look and feel. If you have problems with this game you need new Hardware. The developer has made a awesome game to be played here. Just Awesome good job. EPIC CYBERASS GAME. LOVE IT!!!!!
If your a fan of the SNES games then this will be right up your alley. The story is great and worth the $1.99 price tag. You almost have to play this on a tablet the text is really small and the turn based combat might make things tough on a phone. Still a game I have had a lot of fun with.
I don't know how they did it, but the game runs smoothly on my Samsung galaxy lite. It's a miracle. At first I requested a refund, and while I was waiting for the email back, I realized it totally ran smoothly on my phone! Get ready to pull out your fine print glasses, but it runs smoothly! Awesome customer service, they were very understanding when I decided I didn't need a refund, and I'll definitely be looking into more of their games!
This for sure would be a five star game but it should be stated that its not and shouldn't be played on any device smaller than a 8 inch tablet. The size of the font on a galaxy s3 is ridiculously small. Almost in playabld, its very very small. I will be requesting a refund not because it's a bad game but I can't really read anything.
EXCELLENT game! One of the best RPGs on Android. The only downside is the text font size for my phone (Galaxy Note 4) is too small and the stylus is not supported, but if you go in your phone to Settings > accessibility > vision > zoom option (or the equivalent on your phone) you can set your phone so that if you tap 3 times on the screen, it will zoom in and voilà! Now the text is readable. Also, even if the stylus is not supported, you can set it so that when you hover with your stylus it will zoom that area! the texts and dialogues are now readable! Again, great game! :D
The game has a great story and a good atmosphere. I liked the combat system. Still, there are some minor flaws. What's most disturbing is the linearity. In dialogs, you always have several options to choose from. Nevertheless, the game does not give a &%÷¿ about your answer, the outcome is always the same. Plus, there is exactly one way to go, that's it, feels 'tubey', like FFXIII. Plus, I encountered a small bug that forced me to redo one level. Still some hours of good fun at a good price.
First Galaxy on fire $15(for all), then Walking Dead($15 for all episodes), now Shadowrun $10. WORTH every penny for full on quality paid games. No IAP just quality titles i can buy & experience every single bit of the game. No IAP at all, thats how a paid game shoud be. None of this $5 then more stuff to buy. Buy theses games people so we dont get them 2 years after IOS. Dont be so cheap, Android users pay for quality. Also *READ* it says its made for tablets but I can play just fine on my 4.7" HTC One.
ohMyGawd i freaking love this game its epik. i ended up sinking masses of hours into both dead mans switch and dragonfall plus many user created modules. ive never been so deeply engaged in a story till this game and i cant wait for a sequel to dragonfall or new campaign. so finding this game for the lowest price ever at 2 quid its a steal. thanks harebrained u guys make proper amazing games.
No, I don't what a refund. Having issues it lags out. Plus, it could be my phone (HTC desire 626 ) or I barely have enough GB to save it to my phone. Thou, what I did see of it. The game has high quality graphics, and it looks awesome. And if you have the room, it's worth price by far. I have played shadow run from the books. And from the other ratings and statements this game is worth your time.
Awesome game! I absolutely loved it except when the campaign was over it seemed short I was left with the want for more! Changes I would suggest would be a font size selector text was a little small. Other changes would be to be able to carry over characters to complete harder settings and more side missions and or campaign. Only disappointment was I was left wanting more! Keep up the great work yall are doing a fantastic job!!! I will be playing dragonfall as soon as I'm done writing this!
I rarely review anything. Forget giving 5 stars, I normally don't even look at the reviews. The fact that I even am doing this means it was a good game. This is one of the best virtual table tops that I have ever played. For all the complaints I've seen posted about this game I saw nothing and I'm using a low-end tablet.
Great port. Runs smooth on my device, no lag and relatively quick loading time. My only complaint is the small text size. It's not fun when you have to squint or bring the screen literally right in your face just to read the text. Not all of us own giant tablets. Enlarge the size of the text and it'll be perfect.
Everything looks great, good depth so far. Enjoy the dialogue. Only reason I gave 4 stars is for the performance issue. I have nothing else running, like suggested, I also have 6 GB of RAM and no issues with other games on the OnePlus 3. But I have choppy/massive frame rate drop when in battle or opening inventory. Not sure what the deal is, but I'll still continue playing. Thanks a bunch for the hard work!
Sometimes it laggs a bit. Might just be my phones processor though. Otherwise it's all I could dream of in a game for the phone. NEEDS MORE THAN ONE CAMPAIGN THOUGH!
I cannot seem to get anywhere in this game, the scroll speed and controls seem to take forever to respond. It also likes to reset back to my home screen for no reason, stopping me from advancing in the game. If this got fixed I would give it a higher mark.
it goes to the shield looking symbol that says please wait, then it closes down. i tried re installing and the same thing

Played this many, many years ago on the Mega Drive (Genesis) and loved it then. The fusion of fantasy and futuristic cities is an awesome concept. Must admit I've only just started playing so haven't really scratched the surface of this game yet. But from what I've seen its a faithful recreation of the series from years past. Gameplay is sublime and worth every penny. Any chance of further chapters? Keep them coming.
