About Lode Runner Classic

Lode Runner is now MOGA Enhanced! Available at major US and UK retailers, carrier stores and online at http://www.MOGAanywhere.com. Supports MOGA Pro and Pocket controllers.

DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON FOOL’S GOLD
Play the authentic Lode Runner… this is the real deal!

AWARD WINNING GAMEPLAY
Lode Runner Classic combines the game play and all 150 levels of the award-winning Apple II original Lode Runner with graphics and features engineered for today's advanced smartphones. The game's frantic action takes place in maze-like, static levels, where a single player dodges enemies while running and climbing to reach and claim stacks of gold. No jumping is allowed. And shooting enemies is forbidden, but you can blast blocks to access lower platforms or trap pursuing enemies. Winding your way through ever-increasing levels of complexity makes for a superior challenge, but now you can choose to play any one of the 150 levels at any time.

EXCITING NEW FEATURES
Although the gameplay remains true to the original Apple II version, there are plenty of new features to enhance the experience. You can magnify the screen around the Runner, set the play speed, adjust the coloring of the art and compete for top spot on the worldwide leaderboard.

- Lode Runner Classic Features:
- 150 puzzling levels – all unlocked and accessible
- Two game modes – Expedition and Time Attack
- New magnification effect – zoom the action around the Runner
- Multiple play speeds – super slow to superfast action
- Fully adjustable color palettes
- Worldwide leaderboards
- Multiple control schemes
- Illustrated How to Play section

"When the first Lode Runner came out on the Apple II, the last thing I expected was that the game would be alive and kicking on a platform as advanced as today’s smartphones more than 25 years later. It's really gratifying to me that so many people are still interested in the game."
Douglas E. Smith, Original Creator

“In the early days, there was Lode Runner. I consider it a real puzzle game. That was my favorite for many, many years. It’s such a good combination of dynamic stuff, the finger-work, and real planning and puzzle-solving. Every level was a real puzzle with its own mechanics, its own dynamics, its own kind of solution. At the same time, it was an arcade game to play. This combination was done absolutely right. I can’t imagine any other game with such inventive and unusual design.”
Alexey Pajitnov, Tetris Creator
Interview with Edge Magazine

What are users saying about Lode Runner Classic

by Q####:

It is just like the original! However, while it's MOGA enhanced, it doesn't accept any other controllers. My controllers work with any other controller-based games. I asked the dev team but they haven't responded after a month.

Q70%
by Q####:

Lode Runner is a classic, but this version has totally crappy controls. Why use accelerometer (which is too imprecise for quick changes of direction), why emulate arrow keys / gamepad on screen? This is touch screen, for god's sake! Let the player tap a spot for the character to run there!

D70%
by D####:

The controls need major Improvement, keep dying because instead of going up the character goes to the left, etc. It would be awesome if this was fixed.

Loved it on the Apple IIc. Needs an edit mode. Used to have a ton of self-made levels. Needs to be joystick compatible.

On-screen d-pad control was not comparable to original keyboard control on C64, but at the slowest speed it was not that bad and quite playable with a few mistakes though. It was comfortable to play at the slowest speed since I had time to think, made some mistakes and still won the levels.

Control is a bit iffy on the touch screen.

I am not happy since the game save was not working nice. I played some levels and when I check back again my saves are missing. Also if we accidentally tap the delete button of the saved slot then the game saves will be deleted without any warning. I prefer they should have made a cloud backup so that we can restore whenever we re-install the game again.

Used 2 play on Apple II all the time. This version brings back lots of memories. The graphics & gameplay are spot on compared 2 memories of it. Would have given 5 stars but the controls suck! I miss my simple cheap joystick of the Apple II! Have ordered a Moga pro style controller. If this doesn't fix it I will have 2 pass on completing every level...

Worked for one day, now all it does is say "Unfortunately, Lode Runner has stopped". This is on a Moto G 2014. Deleted cache, restarted phone, reinstalled app, nothing works to fix this. ** After clearing cache and reinstalling, now works **

Played Load Runner back in the early 80s and with a joy stick. No such luck here! Bought a gamepad by Sabrent and it won't work on the Android Lollipop. Can you fix it for a 5th star rating and a revised review of the game?

R70%
by R####:

Even though I love the original, an Android port could still be hit-or-miss. Kudos for giving me an option to get a refund if it doesn't work out

Love it, takes me back to my youth. Still a blast. Now I play it with my son.

Would be a 5 star game if the Dpad was just 4 separate buttons where my thumb could clearly be on 1 at a time. I have dropped or dug in wrong spot too many times!

Z70%
by Z####:

The games is just like the old one. However I wish you could flip around the dpad for right hand use. Its difficult. The touch pad doesn't work that well. The game is still fun.

This is my favorite old skool game and its available for Android, finally.

Best ZX Spectrum game running on Android! No bug till 98 level.

D70%

Good game reminder of my childhood. but like the rest of the reviews the Dpad control seems to have a mind of its own sometimes.

Z70%
by Z####:

The controls are horrible.

P70%
by P####:

Used to be a great game but this is buggy as hell. Enemies run through walls on some levels and the controls could be better. I could deal with the controls but making me pay for something that is full of bugs which cost you the game just sucks. Really disappointed as I used to love this game.

A good effort at recreating a classic Apple II game. The graphics are nice (though a higher resolution option might be fun to look at, as well as classic Apple II green screen), and you can't beat those puzzles. Unfortunately, as anyone who played this on the Apple II (which had a standard analog joystick) will tell you, it's best played with digital controls (most people just used the keyboard back in the day). However, they added Moga support but no HID gamepad support or keyboard support. Worse, I own the Moga Hero Power and it actually maps the game to the analog stick only. Playing a game as fast as lode runner, requiring precise digital controls, just doesn't work well with the Moga analog stick or, I suspect, any analog stick. It's a shame they didn't make it work with standard bluetooth/HID controllers, most of which have gamepads, or keyboard presses (which can be mapped to many keyboards and android game controllers). Please update this to include HID support and mappable keyboard controls so everyone can have fun with the precise control the game requires.

Played this on my Apple IIC as a kid. I got all kinds of problems with this. Bought the game early knowing there might be some glitches that needed fixing but it was a mistake. Just cuz u got the license for the original name means nothing, it's still janky as F$&k!

Bought this out of nostalgia, but Jesus the dammed thing does not work at all. Basically a gamble. Avoid! Update: tried this on another android device, and it doesn't work on it there either. Looks irresponsible.
