Coach Jay's Chess Academy for Android
I love how positive reinforcing this app is, and I love the unique Blue pieces for the black side and how funny coach Jay can be sometimes. I spent $4.99 unlocking the full app, and it was well worth it because I feel like I can go to a chess tournament now (I'm not even lying)! I play with friends and family and I beat them almost every time because of this app. PLEASE ADD A SECTION WHERE YOU CAN PLAY REAL CHESS AGAINST THE COMPUTER ( OR COACH JAY) because that would really complete the app.
This app is great. I am terrible at chess. With this, the lessons are very simple and creative. For a connect four kind of game player like myself, I learned valuable insight on how to look and what to think about in making a strategy against an opponent. I wish all the lessons were Fereeeee! Haha. Great app.
Great learning tool. I would have given it 5 stars if it weren't for the poor controls. It blares awful game music when started and there is nothing you can do to stop it. The mute function only works after the game starts and it is forgotten when closed.
Really good improved my game tenfold. Just one question but on white belt strategy opening rooks. Is the continue button meant to turn grey and freeze when you discuss half open files?
Impressed so far. The interface is clean and uncluttered, the tone is casual and friendly; the app is intuitive with calm colors. Best of all, it lets you practice new moves, and introduces new concepts easily. I learned Chess when I was a child, but I had forgotten the moves, and in a couple of hours, I've relearned the game again, and I look forward to learning how to strategise, and really play the game like a pro! Made the cheap investment of buying the full app, which will repay me manifold with endless hours of fun and learning!
I knew absolutely nothing about chess, but this app makes it easy to learn. It has tutorials followed by scenarios designed to reinforce what was taught. I use other free chess games to check progress. One game I installed I managed to win twice! Many thanks to the developers.
But my battery is getting WAY to hot and drains too fast for a game that doesnt have any moving pixels 90% of the time. Even when charging, the battery can't actually charge any more % because the battery drains so fasr when i play this game. 3 stars until this is fixed.
I have known how to play chess since elementary school but have never really taken it seriously. This app has revitalized my fondness for the game. Each lesson has made a specific impact on my understanding of the game. This is a great app for those just starting out or wanting to teach their children as well. The tips and facts all have some sort of value definitely worth it.
great app. but sometimes when i try to drag the pieces, they disappear and would not appear even after i click the screen again.
This game is so cheap and bad I hate this game my brother don't download this game its puzzle is sooooooo easy I bored with this game if you are beginner this game is best for your don't download
They really put a lot of effort to make this more addictive even for the learners. It would be better if there is playable chess game in it against the computer, by teaching all the things during the gameplay.
I love the game! There is a minor bug (continue button going gray). But it's a great way to learn chess for all ages!

First of all I am an adult. But have a hard time learning. I always wanted to play chess but it seemed so hard. Now I know how to play. I purchased the extra lessons. And last week I won my husband who learned years ago. Jay has done what the others couldn't. Thank you so much!
I've found tons of puzzle apps in my searches, but this one takes the cale with its explainations and engaging format. Sometimes you just gotta revert to kid mode to get stuff done.
What a great app for the beginners! Although I think that there should be an option of changing the pieces into more serious ones like chessbase uses,if an adult wants to learn with it as well.
There is an In App Purchase of the full version, but the trial gives you enough of a taste to see if this trainer will work out for you. Written for children, but I'm a chess novice and really enjoying it. I wish there was a way to backup/restore my progress, and use it across devices. And to be able to turn off the repetitive music would be a welcomed feature. Oh, I'm using the app way more than my kids. Keeping a couple lessons ahead of them is keeping my winning streak going :).

Very instructive
Won't let me move queen for white belt checkmate off back rank #10. Meantime it's not letting me go on to the next puzzle .. PLEASE FIX THIS .. I already paid for the full app.
Lets start with the layout, both easy to read, understand, and simple enough for anyone to use. BY that I mean, any age. This is a very good program for those taking their first steps into chess. I'm already learning new moves not covered in chess books for beginners, talk about In-your-face moves.I admit that I'm a novice, and an adult, and at my age I'm now finding the time to learn chess. Is there a way to make it for a PC ?
I bought this not realizing this is geared toward kids. However, as an adult who used to stink at chess, I find this app very useful in honing my skills.

I loved the game but there was no mention of a purchase required for full version when I downloaded it & suddenly out of no where it pop out the window to make a purchase of 4.99$ to gain access to complete game. At least developers should add this in the front screen only that to enjoy the complete game one req purchase.
Just lets you play a few easy levels and asks for money
Might be aimed at kids, but exactly what I was looking for as an adult interested in going from basic to intermediate chess skill. Only on the second level white belt, but I can already see the difference in how I read the board and think through moves. Highly, highly recommended for any age!
Its very helpful to learn chess lessons like checkmate, defence, endgame, strategy, tactics. "its my request to you if you put audio for hints, command etc is help to understand quickly for non English peoples".
Sometimes, like other apps, it freezes. But overall a great learning tool.
Stupid puzzles. That too, paid. I am not going to pay 4 dollars for this. Uninstalling right away
I'm not a kid, but this is still an awesome app to learn to play chess. After each new idea is proposed, you practice it over and over again, so hopefully you recognise the opportunities to apply it when playing a game.
I'm a master in chess I rate awsome
Sometimes in the lessons, when I press a chess piece to move it, it disappears, so I can't complete the lesson. Other wise good app. 3 stars until this is fixed.
Informitive. The app breaks down the game in a way that makes it easy to follow and learn guickly for any age. I would DEFINITELY recommend!
I like this simple way to show and teach...Ive learn basics before..but this truly teaches many levels to your game!
It will teach u in easy way
It's for kids but helpful to adults. Can't beat the value. Positives: great to learn the basics and some intermediate strategies. Pretty easy to understand. Negatives: too redundant. There are dozens of "puzzles" on things that are very simple and you just want to move on. Tip: mute the sounds immediately. They will annoy the hell out of you.
I'm 18. I've always wanted to play chess well, not just know how to move pieces. I mean play well, strategize, plan, attack, win. I never had a coach. Until recently, I've had no internet either. At around 12 I got a home computer in my mom's study/ spare room. It had a chess program. With zero support, no lessons, and only a reliance on analyzing skills, I taught myself chess. I learned to emulate the computer, rudimentary tactics, and with my paltry chess knowledge gained from this method, proved a steep challenge for my best friend/ rival, who only had basic instruction from his father, estimated level 1k. This was at 16. Since then I've recently(last month or so) become on fire about chess.I've (to a fault) been prideful of my intelligence, and ability to quickly master things I set my mind to, and this app is intuitive, covers enough material (for free), and shows you how to "think" like a player, that I sense that by the time I finish the free content, I'll not only be good enough to beat my friend, I'll want to drop the 5 bucks(I'm a Jew with money) to have the full version, which I believe may allow me to soundly beat his dad. Get it.
I downloaded this app for my daughter as I wanted to teach her to play chess but I'm not a very good teacher. so I also had a go myself and I love it too so now my game is improving now also. a must have for anyone that wants to learn chess or just wants to improve. also the full version is worth every penny love it

The chess board is small; there is alot of unused space around it. Also, would be much better to tap and tap rather than drag and drop to move pieces. I would like to try some of the higher level lessons before i buy the full version, the current trial only has the most basic
