About A Dance of Fire and Ice

UPDATE 2: Hi guys, unfortunately it will be a while before I can fix bugs again on this. This is a few years old now! Most people should still be able to play it. But on some newer devices the game is laggy and not smooth enough. If you buy it and find its laggy, just email me and I'll give you a refund. (Or just get an automatic refund if you do it within the 15 minutes of buying, by going to this page again.)

I'm planning a big update at the end of this year with three new levels and completely overhauled graphics, and that will fix all the issues. It's hard to find time right now (currently working on another rhythm game called Rhythm Doctor, that we need to finish up first) to do it so please bear with me. Have a good day!

Top 100 Overall Paid Apps in South Korea. I am humbled, thanks for the support!

A Dance of Fire and Ice is a really strict rhythm game about hitting the breakbeat. It's pretty hard to describe, but you should play the free online version on a desktop computer first if you are not sure if you would enjoy this game! Most likely you have come to this page via the online game though. :)

WARNING: This is a hard rhythm game. Not in the sense of silly note spamming - for the most part all you have to do is keep a consistent beat - but this is a good test of whether you would be a good drummer. Keeping a beat is not very easy, and then weird breakbeats are added on top of that, so don't worry if you find it difficult!

Recommended calibration settings (number on the top right):
Xperia Z2 - Default
Nexus 5 - 0.15
Samsung S4 - 0.18 (thanks Johan!)

Devices it might not work on:
Note 3 (2 users reported lag, 1 reported OK)
Motorola RAZR (1 user reported unable to play)

Let me know if the calibrations for your device are different and I'll add it here, and you'll be doing a good service for your fellow device users!

Game History & Updates

What's Changed
(Mini-update: vibration toggle due to request)
Automatic calibration! In the form of a mini-game for you no less. Really happy with it, would love to know what you think! (An A-rank requires almost all your hits to be within 0.015 seconds of each other, just so you know the scale of things.. though if you are a drummer this shouldn't be a problem!)
Also, audio system reworked so the extra bonus speeds don't require the offset to change. Have fun!
Price update  Price changed from $0.83 to $0.89.

1. I love this game, one of the best rythemic games out there. I only wish it was longer than it was. (Any extra levels you feel like designing I would love to play) A total steal for a buck. 2. I have encountered a bug, using a verizon galexy s5 whenever I try to play the game while my speakers are conected by bluetooth it causes the game to chug and glitch out. Very unfortunate as the phone speakers don't do the music justice. 3. If you could make the soundtrack available, for buyers I would adore you.

The Good: As a rhythm game, the concept is neat, the execution is very good, and the soundtrack is beautiful. The visualization of percussion and beats was refreshing. The Bad: The calibration doesn't work as well as its browser counterpart, especially when it doesn't seem to carry over to the actual gameplay. I ended playing half the songs with my eyes closed. The Ugly: It should be free. Not that I resent my three bucks going to support a dev who really does deserve it, but the desktop browser version is free and this app adds nothing new. It'd have been well worth it if there were a few new "worlds" to play in, but it's just a paid mobile port of a free browser game. TL;DR: It's definitely worth a play, but you can play it for free on a desktop browser and miss out on nothing. Very disappointing purchase.

This game is amazing! I remember buying this long ago. Now I am looking back at it after a few years disappointed on the lack of new levels. Please make more levels!

It's lagging on LG V10. Calibration seems impossible to do in this phone. It worked fine in my pc but it's lagging on my phone. Other than the issues, it has great concept, music and addicting to play.

Getting an A on the calibration tool was a bit of extra fun. However I feel that the buttons on the screen could be smaller, and the calibration number a little bigger. Overall it was quite short and I'm looking forward to more worlds or other game modes too.

Love the game. Very catchy beats that have a natural flow and would be easy to tap along to even if it wasn't the core mechanic of the game.

I love this game, but I would love the ability to make my own levels using my own music!

by B####:

On the Galaxy S6, the orbs are super laggy when they move. I'd give it a framerate of around 15fps but I'm just eyeballing. When the rest of the game is smooth and that component isn't, it's super jarring to me.

I spent another night looking for a better rhythm game. A game called Radiohammer looked promising but the controls weren't responsive so it's useless. If you want an android rhythm game this is it! God I'm sick of guitar-hero style rhythm games--I played DDR a long time ago and got over it! Anyway, this Dev is responsive and his appreciation of Rhythm Tengoku (the best rhythm game) shows. Maybe he'll team up with some other like-minded folks and create a full-fledged game like Rhythm Tengoku?!

This game is amazing, it takes me back to the days of playing rock band everynight. I like that it's throwing odd rhythms at me that I don't normally hear in music too. My only problem is that I get little lag spikes every once in a while, does anyone know a fix for this? I've tried stopping all background apps and it still happens, just enough lag to mess me up :( Edit: I'm using a galaxy S5 if it helps, also really hoping this gets updated in the future, nice work dev!

It's kinda awkward to actually chat with dev. I'm glad that this game might still alive. I'll wait for it and donate some to you later if the game is good. Also, you got few gameplay impersonator out there

A really great, absorbing game. The only thing that would make it better would be the ability to break the long, hard levels into practice chunks. There are areas in the long levels that require a certain amount of repetitive practice to internalize the rhythm, but playing over the entire level to get to that point causes finger fatigue, which makes any kind of repetitive practice both difficult and painful.

Cool mechanics, visuals and the difficulty is just right (for me atleast). It's kinda sorta laggy (in frames) for some reason but that's just me comparing it to the web version. It's still very playable since you don't really have to rely on visuals in this game too much.

I absolutely love it, really addicting game! One of the best rhythm game I have ever played, I'm waiting for new updates to come, in the mean time I am stuck at 3-X (1.1x). Can you add like maybe easy mode or something? because it gets really challenging. other than that, fun experience. 6/5

I have deleted all the others. Clever mechanic and visuals. Fun and addictive, great to share with people. frustrating enough to keep you playing and fun enough/ enough of a skill barrier to keep you coming back. any time i need a 5-10 min break this is the only game I need.

A rhythm gamer friend of mine and i played this first on Kongregate and we loved it. I bought it to support the creator and in hopes to get more levels! We bothe also want a level creator/editor. Id love to make my own songs! Edit: its been a while and im sooo looking forward to new content! I was also wondering if, now that the Nintendo 3DS is going to have Unity support, if a verson for it will be created? Edit 2: awesome! Im so excited to see more in this!

As others have said, I played on browser but bought anyway to support. Also, I would like to get in touch with the developer for some questions, as this topic is my masters thesis.

There's a similar game out called Skyward, and while that has better graphics, I think you have better gameplay here by introducing a rhythm element. That and you don't have ads. It's fun but doesn't look great. Reply: Dude, getting ratings as high as this with this level of graphics is an achievement. I look forward to seeing the look change. :)

I absolutely love the songs. and you've done an excellent work on the music timing. if you didn't have the time to add another song, can you add a new mode which makes you stay in a song and increase the music speed (1.x part) instead of move on on next music? I'd love to play the stage 2 on 2.0x

Now that I have a newer phone, it shows that my old phone was undesirable for this game, but it ran decently anyways and I was able to stage 3. Great developer, great port.

Calibration is off and I can't calibrate it. I attempted it twenty times and it always said I was too inconsistent. There was a lag between when I pressed and when it registered the 'x' and it was super inconsistent with the delay...

Love the game, love the music. Played it on pc and still do but bought it to support the maker. My only problem so far is the calibration screen, it always marks me a bit past half beat even though i hit it perfect. I am using an LG G1, maybe it's a phone problem. PC has no problem. If your phone can handle it, very addicting! PS I'm a drummer. Edit: The dev was more than happy to contact and get into contact with me about the issue, gotta love devs that care about their software!

Love this game! It's simple but oh so challenging! I wish there were more levels! This game isn't for the faint of heart. (or people who can't keep a rhythm like me). There's something so wonderful about this game that keeps me coming back. FIVE STARS! Great job. I'd pay good money if there was a sequel!
