Hnefatafl for Android
The AI even on hard just isn't very good. Moving one piece repeatedly at the start of the game. It displays no clear strategy and is too easy to beat. Amazing board game so great to see it getting some love.
**Highly Recommended** Best of the bunch! Great AI with multiple difficulty levels and covers most variations of the tafl game/boards. If you looking to learn tafl, this is a great start. It's a great game and you've really done it justice.
I've been playing this for the past year and a half. and I must say that you have improved on the game substantially. I used to remember the AI consistently repeatedly making the same move over and over again. But now, it has improved and it's gotten quite harder. The new board artwork is beautiful, and I do enjoy all the new variants. (Still love the Copenhagen rules) I will continue to keep playing and enjoying this game, it's a must have for every phone I get. Keep up the great work. You are doing amazingly.
Nice updates. Game selection unavailable in general settings, cust board choice says pieces, new game player color unclear, vol% mismatch using vol button on settings page, no notation or board labels, AI strength not shown, landscape shrinks board too much, no branching game review/replay, Can't tell king is armed from image. Can't edit starting array shapes for either color. The only restrictions to starting array should be white to black ratio 1 to 2, 4 fold symmetry, available space, and King in center
It works and functions. Is quite fun also, but sometimes the computer gets stuck thinking. I don't have it set to unlimited think time. Yet sometimes I will have to wait 30 minutes to be able to make another move. Overall it works really good and is functioning. Would recommend it to others.
Great app with many possibilities and decent online multiplayer.
Simple but yet ultra sneaky. Credits to the dev for crafting a gorgeous app for this gem. :)
It only needs a tutorial section, for getting players up to at least a competitive level, to be perfect.
It's great to have so many variations on rules in one app. Still haven't tried them all. There are just 2 things I'd like to see. 1 - After starting a game against an online opponent, they never took their next turn, but I can find no way to withdraw or otherwise leave a game I'm now stuck in to try other opponents. (Now it says they forfeit but I've no idea how) 2 - I would love to see an implementation of the Thud rules from Discworld here.
It's good to see a Tafl app with a fair bit of quality in the play store! The UI is pretty good, but the computer player is poor as all "levels/players" are equally easy to beat. Also, sadly, some of the Tafl variations do not adhere to the correct rules.
I feel like a Viking!
I like to play this strategy boardgame,it simple and challenge but AI tend to stuck in the loop..hope you fix this.Otherwise good app. :)
What a great little app. It's introduced me to a few variants I've never met or played before too. To be fair, I usually beat it (Indeed once in a while it makes some really crazy 'schoolboy' moves or just gets 'stuck'). Still, Having played this several times a day since I downloaded it, I can say that it's generally no pushover. Especially if you give it unlimited thinking time. I'll pay to get rid of the ads. Well worth it. Kudos to Phillipe. (If I can help the AI by playing against it to train it on a beta site or similar, please let me know, I'd love to help. This is an awesome little app, I'd be pleased to help make it even better!)
This newer version has a vastly better AI which, when you consider the gorgeous graphics, makes this the best Tafl game for Android to date. All the historical Tafl variants are here, though I would love to have the modern 'berserker rule' as an option or maybe even the Knight piece that some modern Tafl games now have. Thanks to the programmer for such an awesome game!
Just a question. I've won a game, but it still says "continue game" in the main menu. How can I start a new game?
Great mechanics, all it needs is different skins for the board & pieces & it will be
Loved it.
Best version of this game. Only problem so far is that the AI tends to get stuck in a loop sometime. Otherwise perfect app and I love being able to play online against real opponents.
Excellent ancient game of tactical strategy, many variations on the theme all nicely presented. Great app
You cannot use the king to surround other pieces and take them. Thanks for your reply. Looking forward for Copenhagen rules.
I found a nice set at a thrift store, and was quite pleased to find a good app... Would love a 3D view, but still 5 stars IMO
I really, really like this app! The simplest rules for new tafl players, and good AI for veterans to practice the basics again! My only issue is that AI on Ard Ri doesn't get past the 3rd turn, and on the Aela Evangelii the AI doesn't challenge the player. Fix these bugs and the app would be unrivalled on play store!!
This is a pretty solid Tafl game app! I like that it contains multiple variants. If this allowed for various rule settings, it would be perfect. For example, I've never played with the rule that the king cannot be used to capture one of the attackers. I know that rule settings would complicate the AI and add some potential issues with 'net-based multiplayer, so it's not really a big deal.
I would have liked a settings menu and more of a coherent design (no black background for the start screen). Other than that, the games are a lot of fun! I'll happily purchase the ad-free version of this game if the development continues.
...the AI is too weak & very predictable, esp. in smaller games where it always responds to your moves the same way every time
Will there be a Copenhagen rules version though? Edit: it also didn't recognise a draw by repetition when I was playing white today. Still really good though.

Amazing game! The only thing I'd like to see is if in the custom variant you could choose the placement of pieces. As of now there are only limited placements based off of other variants as far as i can see
