About The Eighth Continent

'The Eighth Continent' is an interactive novel in which you are the story's hero!

In a world devastated by a cataclysmic super-eruption, you must search for your lost family.  Who should you trust?  What dangers await you in the volcanic wasteland?

Scavenge, fight, hack, and trade your way through a ruined world.

Features:
- A branching storyline; make crucial choices and live with the consequences.
- Conditional choices, where your options may depend on the items in your inventory, your health or mental state, previously visited locations, your reputation with other characters, or even your wealth!
- A card-based fighting mini-game.
- A mini-game for hacking electronic locks.
- A mini-game where you scavenge for precious goods.
- Vendors to buy and sell.
- A decryption mini-game to decode secret records.
- An inventory of consumables and quest items for you to manage.
- Over 700 pages.
- Over 20 achievements.
- An automatic bookmark save system.

Suitable for adults and young adults alike, the book uses clean language throughout and contains mild fictional violence in the form of a card game.  Although a standalone story, 'The Eighth Continent' is the first book of a trilogy; books two and three are already written, and will be released as apps soon.

The app is designed for both phones and tablets, and works in both landscape and portrait orientations.

Special thanks to Matt Rix for his excellent Futile 2D library.

The story of a family coping with post apocalyptic world is riveting, and well told with vivid imagery; although it is intense, and deals with survival, it isn't gory. Involvement in the game could encourage reading in gamers, which may interest parents. Most games have an amoral premise which favors winning at any cost, but this is set in a moral universe-intriguing and unusual. The mini games and other features offer puzzles that are fun, sophisticated and challenging. Altogether an absorbing and beautiful game that resonates emotionally. Very enjoyable on a tablet, might not be as accessible using a phone. After enjoying the free game, purchased 1 and 2, and would have paid much more for them. Way better than any game I've ever played.

Got this game as a travel companion, looked perfect for my 4+ hour flight. And it was! Not for everyone, but I enjoyed it very much (the free version). Buying it since it is definitely worth the money and the author deserves it. Thanks!

Absolutely loved it and it's probably the first "book/novel" I've managed to read for years due to an accident ten years ago that caused me having some issues with my ability to read and comprehend a larger amount of text (as the bookworm I am it has been devastating) but after finishing this I might finally be able to catch up my backlog of books soon! Played/read it through in one session two days ago and the only thing I can notify upon is a suggestion for the buy/sell meny which I would have loved to be able to see how many units of either product I have in stock while browsing shop items with traders. Other than that I loved the minigames and the overall story in itself! I played the free version, but I loved it so much I decided to buy it to encourage more promising creations like this! Keep up the good work! I'm heading for the second part as soon as possible and if I have any suggestions or so I'll be back with a review when finished. Cheers!

seen ones you cannot pass and at times where moving on equals life, or death.. 2 stars only for the nice writing, sound and art...too bad I purchased it...should have tried the free version first.

Highly recommended! I also bought the paid version of part 1 & 2 after playing through the free version, i think it's well deserved. The story is engaging and the music and illustrations add to the atmosphere. The minigames are good fun too, especially combat, I found it very well balanced. Thanks for such a great app :)

I love this story. I particularly love the cyo mixed with puzzle mini games. amazing all around, and I rally enjoy that it's left up in he air as to Morgan's Gender. wonderful touch. in my head, Morgan is definitely just a tomboy

I used to have this book which you had to make decisions and go to certain pages that showed the consequences. This game remembers me that. I love the idea, the grafics and the storyline. The mini games are funny and addictive. I played the free version but I decided to buy the original so that I could support a bit the effort put in this game, because it really deserves. I am waiting eagerly for the second part.

Love the game, have played a few chapters of the free version, thought the developers deserve some cash for their efforts (and would be nice to get rid of the adverts) so paid for this version, but there seems to be no way to import my current 'free version' bookmark into this version, so I'll just have to continue playing the free one (and put up with the adverts). Still worth the money, but shame there is no import function (or maybe there is and I just can't find it)

It's a phenomenal game. Unfortunately, I played the free version and then paid for this one but it turned out to be the same game. Maybe pt 2 will be an update on this one? Either way, if you can stand a few ads, just stick to having completed the free version if you already have. Excited for part 2!

It would have been 5 stars if the free version wasn't the exact same game. I bought it thinking there would be more to play past the end of the demo since there is a lot more this story could have but the payed for version ends at the exact same spot as the free version. It sounds like the two other books that will be released soon may continue this story, but still we paid for the free version. However, I am not saying this game was bad in any way. It was an awesome book and I'm excited for the next one's.

Really enjoyed there game. Could have used a map just for reference (I really love maps) one thing I had a problem with I was never able to decode the journal entries because I don't see the button for the decoder module???

I really loved the story, the illustrations, the mini games. Looking forward to see where the story goes. Just one thing negative: The game eats your battery for breakfast. 45 minutes of gameplay brought my battery down from almost full to less than 30%, and my phone got really hot. What on earth does the game need so much power for? I mean, there is no 3D rendering or anything going on here... 5 stars for the game, but reduced to 4 for battery drain.

This is a fun game. I got hooked on the free version so I bought the two dollar version expecting the story to advance further but it's exactly the same. What gives? Why did I just pay two bucks for something I already had?

R70%

I love the diversity involved between the mini games and it has an amazing story so far! The options actually made me pause and think on what to do. Do I choose what's best for me or everyone? Is it a dog eat dog world or do I stick with my morals? Do I trust my gut or what other people tell me? The music and graphics fit right in. I played the free version and bought this to support the creators. Can't wait for the next installment and will replay this one until it comes out! Keep up the great work!

I really enjoyed this game. I like the casual and relaxing ganeplay. I hope there is a sequel soon. Can not wait to journey north to the chasm and the quest to find dad, brother, and the 8th continent.

I downloaded the free one & played it all the way to the Epilogue. Liked it so much that I paid for the $1.99 version thinking it would be the entire adventure to the end. No, it isn't. It is the exact same game only this one costs money. I want my money back since it is the exact same game as the free one. For those of you about to pay for this one, DON'T do it! Just download and play the free one because it is the exact same. Why did you do this, developer? (Acer Iconia A1-830 8.0" Tablet - Android 4.4.3)

So well written, beautifully illustrated and the minigames all really add to the experience. Best app I've played in a long time, can't wait for more!

Well done! Got very confused by the sudden ending to the story - I'll just have to wait for part two! The other thing confusing me is the decode thing... Can't find the 'decode' button for the journal anywhere!... I have a suspicion it doesn't exist! (android 4.4... Yes i have batteries) aside from these two small things, was a great read/very well written app :-)

it ends midway through. or less than midway, really. Like the first part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy or something. Will there be more?

K70%

Great game, fantastic graphics, engaging story that completely tempts you in. Mini games are excellent would be that bit better if it was longer. Because it's so good it took all of about three/four hours till I got to the end.
