The Manhattan Project for Android
I'm a huge fan of the board game. And while this does an OK job at recreating that experience, I am so disappointed with the state of its multiplayer. The game requires a constant connection for ALL players. If anyone's device sleeps or they exit the app for any reason, they will disconnect from the game and be unable to rejoin. This is a huge oversight on the developer's part. Multiplayer is the point of board games, and this game can take 30-45 minutes to complete. Instead of allowing for asynchronous gaming like many other board game apps (e.g. Race for the Galaxy), they've decided instead to hobble the game and make it a single player mess. Since the last update was in January of 2016, I assume this game is no longer being worked on. Such a shame that the developers limited the game. It could have been a lot better with the introduction of a genuine multiplayer experience.
Great implementation of a great board game. The only possible negative I see, is that the board is a little small to see with a small screen.
Please add an easy to use quick match function where human players can hotjoin or leave a new or already running human online game ( replace leaving players with ai until someone joins again ), make it possible that a winscore of 100 can be defined , that something additional evil or smart gameplay action(s) can be done to other players and it has potential for good longterm sales on Gplay :) Great effort till now. Game sometimes crashes if i click to fast around in the gui - Samsung Note 3
A little shaky when it first came out but the v3 update has brought this game to the front of game list to play. I wish more sites would review it again as I think people were turned off by the negative reviews when it first came out but it's a MUCH improved game now and has that "just one more turn" feel to it. Love it.
Very pretty design with a slick UI. As soon as a game is over I'll happily start another. Against the basic AI I always win, right from my first game even though I'd not played the board game. The improved AI2 opponents play better and I win 50/50 which is a more satisfying challenge. My only significant criticism is that after a dozen games the AI still has never attacked another player, even when equipped with 10 fighters and 10 bombers - worse though is that they don't repair damaged buildings. This results in the ludicrous situation of an AI player having lots of damaged buildings but even with 12 workers they choose to build bombers, place a couple of workers on their only remaining buildings then Retrieve leaving 9 workers unused! A minor gripe is the slow speed at which the AI plays. At first I was happy that they played slowly. But after gaining some experience I wish there was an option for the AI just to present a rapid summary of their moves so that my turn comes around more quickly. Currently in a 4 player game I might have to wait a full minute or so between goes. However, it looks fantastic, plays without problems and is a cracking game. I play on a hudl 2.
Needs expansions. sometimes its fiddly moving dudes around. love it.
...the board game but where are the expansions?
Well worth getting. A great board game with a good ai. Has a few issues with moving cards around, (possibly better suited to tablets), but still worth it
Good, but with caveats. The recent update has some welcome UI/usability improvements. Probably best played as an "adjunct" to playing the actual board game with friends (or perhaps multiplayer with the app, which I haven't done yet.) because the AI simply isn't good enough to challenge a competent human player. But it's not bad for experimenting, trying out new strategies, using the game mechanics, etc., and it's better than playing solitaire. It's extremely unlikely that the AI will be a threat to win, but the AI players at least can get in your way, use espionage, etc., so it's not a total cakewalk. UPDATE: Newer versions have an "AI2" setting that's significantly better than AI1. It still isn't a serious challenge for an experienced player, but it's semi competent and can surprise you. AI2 will usually at least build a bomb or two before you win.
I'm enjoying using the app to get to know the game and how it works. Fun game so far. Just wish that with a playtime for the physical game being 2 hours that it would have a save game option to come back to it. I give this game 2 numb legs....
Why, like all games, this one does not have a tutorial and only a rulebook is provided ? Did you want to make it cheap or fast in the market or something ?
It has some flaws but it is nice to finally play this respected board game. I had to learn the game from YouTube videos (Rahdo), and the downloadable manual from BoardGameGeek since this offers no tutorial, and little in the way of 'hints'. I think if they continue to improve this base game it could be one of the best, but they have some work to do. When the base game is sound, and the AI is improved I will certainly consider purchasing any expansions.
Great implementation but needs Offline save function to be of use as an App. If you quit the app it will lose your game in progress!!!
Great implementation of a great board game. The only possible negative I see, is that the board is a little small to see with a small screen.
Why can I not save offline games?
Thanks for the update! Easy to see how many available workers of each type you have now. Panning and zooming are easier now, especially since you cannot inadvertently move immoveable objects. Still things to improve, but now a more challenging and playable game.
Earned an extra star for the unexpected and most-welcome update. Thanks! If you update again, shouldn't the bomber track decrease by one each time you load a bomb? Anyway, thanks again for the smarter AI!!
Can't tell what worker you have available and difficult to move workers as screen moves instead of worker changing view. Unable to complete a game
Great game and good port. The problem is the ai. Just way too easy. Also, if I could join a human game by searching for open tables that would be a great option.
Its bad that the workers are not all laid out neatly, as you have to slide them all off each other to see who is who. The info could be easier to read too, but that is a minor gripe.
The AI are very bad and you can only play online in games you schedule yourself with friends.
There is a bug whereby you can reuse the workers you used to build a bomb before doing a recall by testing the bomb (P). You should not be able to reuse those workers before doing a recall. My other comments are less critical: first, there needs to be an improvement to the UI for worker management. I would suggest a zone near the player board with 24 spaces to keep all workers the player has acquired organized. Second, get rid of any and all drag and drop, it only takes away from the game. Third, there is a minor bug when you purchase the on-board uranium whereby your scientist does not populate the space. Lastly, as others have mentioned, the AI is quite weak. This game would be best served with multiple AI "personalities", I.e.some that were more prone to using espionage or airstrikes vs ones that preferred peaceful buildup. However, at the very least there should be a option for more difficult AI. Currently, they are prone to making moves with zero tactical value, such as selecting espionage with no valid targets or selecting a university that yields zero workers. Thank you for listening. -m
Had one crash in ten games so far. GUI is nice, few tweaks like sticking immoveable items would be good. AI could be tougher.
I've been enjoying this - I was completely new to The Manhattan Project in any form, and it's great! However, as for the app itself, I'd love to be able to save an offline game...
The underlying game is great, but the AI here is pretty dumb. UI could be improved as well; why am I allowed to accidentally move workers that were placed on actions or have to sort through pieces to figure out how many workers I have left?
The interface needs to be arranged so that at any one point you can tell how many of each worker types u have as it is they are buried under each other. Also dont like the ability to drag other player pieces of the board. Too much of the screen has gone to waste. Also the Nations expansion is not included.
I like this game and bought the app to determine if I would like it as 7.50 is much more palatable than full retail for the board version in case I did not like it. That said, some horrible design choices on this app. Making this drag and drop is entirely unnecessary. Being able to click the spot then select the worker(s) would be infinitely easier. Also, being able to move the ai's pieces around, and the weird stacking just make a mess of what is an otherwise esthetically pleasing game.
I love this game and cannot stop playing. However, it is very hard to recommend this to others in this unpolished state. I'm an AIR programmer as well, and I know how much effort these guys must have put into this project. It is a huge accomplishment to have it come this far. But unless you are a fan of board games, this interface and design simply will not work. I understand the concept; recreate the experience of the board game and all components. But in a mobile platform, this is cluttered and confusing. A new UI will need to be implemented to give players better control and information. There are also a few bugs I have found regarding specific cards and actions such as the loss of all action buttons sometimes after cancelling an air strike. Needs serious improvement, but this is still a great game.
Overall, great game but a tutorial would have saved me about 3 hours trying to figure this game out. Also I win every time against the AI so there needs to be an option for difficulty when playing against the computer. The presentation is OK but it would be nice to be able to see how many of each worker you have without trying to dig through your pile of workers. Still a fun game. Winning is anticlimactic and it would be nice to see a huge explosion or something more exciting than "Green wins".
A pretty good effort. There is no tutorial so watch a video on YouTube to learn how to play. Plus you can touch the place you want to place a worker and a popup will show up to show you what workers you can place there, much easier than dragging. The AI is pretty easy but I think it will shine in Pass and Play and/or Online play. Considering this was done by someone on the nights/weekends he wasn't working I give it to thumbs up!
The game is fully functional it just needs a little fine tuning. The pieces shouldn't be moveable. They should just stay where they're suppose to be and line up appropriately when you retrieve. The notes of what actions the other player is taking should be a larger font so it's easier to read. The rule book should be full screen. A double tap should zoom in/out of that section so you don't have to keep pinching. There should be a hub didplaying how many / what kind of workers you have.
Need some streamlining of the ui. Everything should not be click able.
You get 5 stars just for bringing over a great game to android users. Thank you.
Really love the game, but really need stronger AI opponents. Look forward to future updates.
Could use a little polish here and there but it is great to be able to play this game on the go!
Game crashes when you load a bomb if you pass on first phase placement
Needs work to make it good or great. Where you can place workers could be highlighted better. Get rid of the way Peices move like a normal board, like moveable after placing etc.
I win *all* the games.

A boardgame offered in the play store that has no tutorial, gets an immediate 1 star. Before addressing any of the other issues others have mentioned, that should be addressed. Fiddly moving pieces, bad multiplayer...those are minor compared to not having a tutorial!
