About Wargame Gettysburg

The battle of Gettysburg was fought over 3 days from July 1st-3rd 1863. It is considered the turning point of the American civil war, showing that the Confederates were not invincible, halting the invasion of the North, and providing the political popularity for Lincoln to be re-elected as president.

This wargame allows you to play either side against the computer, or hotseat against another player. There is a map of the Gettysburg battlefield divided into hexagons, each representing about 500 yards across. The combat units are brigades, with each figure representing 100 men or 10 guns.

Victory is achieved by the capture of flagged areas on the map (the flag indicates ownership) and also inflicting more losses.

The game can be played with fog of war on or off, and options can be set for when the tardy Confederate cavalry commander, General Stuart, shows up (although this will also affect his Union cavalry counterparts).

I wish though you could change reinforcements avenues of approach that would be very helpful. As the battle lines change over time, this game reminds me of civil war generals. It's sad no one has thought of replicating that game on here or on steam. I miss that game

Does not matter which side I play AI gets Twice the manpower. Guess developers were cheaters in school and now set that example in life.

Very fun strategy game. I wish it was easier to put regiments in the defensive position. Overall a really good game.

The beauty is in the simplicity: great for a Civil War buff like me, easy enough for casual wargamers. Proper tactics are a MUST!!!

I agree with our Southern friend about the green hex/troop selection being off-screen, and unable to maneuver, seems to only happen when more than one unit occupies the same line on the field. Played it several times, both sides, and never lost once... now, how about Vicksburg, with gunboats?

Two great games. Highly suggest both. My only problem on Samsung 7.7 is that both games freeze every third or fourth game around turn 10. Any suggestions. Definite 5 rating without freeze up.

The green hex is not scaling down to allow every side to be seem out selected with multiple regiments in the hex selected. Any regiment in the bottom half of hex are not visible. I cannot select any to move out attack if lined up bottom sides. Please fix or supply another option to select regiments. I cannot Beat dem Blue-Bellies at Gettysburg when whole regiments are just left immovable. 11 star app if not for that! Chancellorsville would be amazing for next one.... :o)

I do like what is done here, but I wish the creaters would provide an update for a couple alternate Gettysburg, perhaps Longstreet's idea of flanking the rounds tops, no room on this game, and I am curious where the Confederate Cavalry is, and you only give the South 3 batteries of artillery. The south had 180 some odd guns, and the Union about 220. It is an excellent start though.

Love the game but its way to short to pay for. If the game was longer it would be an awesome game.

Just played Battle of Gettysburg last night. The Graphics are basic but fine, not sure I like top down views. AI and back ground 'mechanics' all seem to work authentically. Its cool to see the Generals and their units move, and see the log file updating, with losses morale degradation, and unit strength. The map looks good but it is a bit hard to tell hill tops given the crowded terrain. Once or twice I thought I was holding a hill, only to see larger than normal losses due t being charged down hill! ugh. Arty is not very powerful, AI was smart enuff to avoid frontal assaults on it :( REALLY need an UNDO move button/option. I like the movement indicators and how far you can move being shaded in. A couple of times I rolled back a turn to see if the AI would do the same thing twice. Never does. I think I like that from a replay perspective, plus the results of combats where they were the same also varied! I feel like I got some good value at 1.99. And it is now on my radar to watch for new releases. If the designer teamed up with a UI/animation guy that would be very cool.

Fun to play a quick runthrough. Repetitive with the one battle and no options. Worth buying if you are into these types of games.

This system, and the Napoleonic, have great potential. Both need more depth though. Would love to see a naval campaign. Vicksburg, even.

I have looking for a game app similar to the Classic Civil War Generals and this is as close as it gets! Ready for First and Second Manassas next!

And realized what a half assed effort this is. Seriously- try their free Civil War game and you'll see what I mean. You guys STARTED something exciting with the Napoleonic stuff and then bailed for these equally half assed WWII things-also done much better by Tiller. Combine this system of unit depicting with the Napoleonic era material-especially naval material!- and I'll be back. No point otherwise.

Downloaded game on Razor and freezes on first touch. Please assist. Confederates win on first day by Pender and Heath taking Round Tops and Power Hill. This can be done uncontested by AI. Only need to take Gettysburg. Suggest playing into second day.
