What a great way to spend a taco's worth of money. This game is seriously addicting, and evil. Tying health refreshes and ammo increases with alternate weapons makes you play around with your non favorite shots for the immediate survival boost (or play in your style and skip om healing ). I also love how you get 3 different upgrades at every level end, which makes each playthrough different even beyond the randomized maps.

And it is so perfect for mobile... It's also the most unique mash up of genres I've ever played.. And they all work great together. Only thing is the graphic style is a little too retro for me. But it doesn't take away from the game much. Solid 4 stars.

Q70%
by Q####:

..to be the best retro game ever! It is quite boring at first coz we've seen a lot games like this before, but as you progress it makes you want to play more! Game is smooth, stylish palettes, challenging and action-packed.. I just wish the controls to be movable, the jump can be high or low, and more stomp (melee) and gun (ranged) upgrades to come.. Then this will be the best retro game ever.

I love this game. This is one of the only games I play on mobile, and it has an old-school arcade machine feeling to it. The gameplay is hard but rewarding if you take the time to get really good. As far as gameplay goes, there isn't anything wrong with the game. It's dependable and never crashes, and the menu and interface design is nicely planned out. The Palette feature of the game is really cool! I've never seen something similar in a game and it adds a whole lot of customization. As far as the controls go, I still play with them on the bottom of the screen how they come by default - you will get used to them. Don't let the controls stop you from playing such a great instant classic.

I'd heard a lot about Downwell, so I decided to pay the Rs 200 for it, just to give it a shot. It certainly shattered my expectations. I don't remember having this much fun on any mobile game that I've ever played. And considering that I generally prefer puzzlers to platformers, its just a testament to the games polish. The simple controls have as deep a gameplay as you like. You could play cautiously, stopping at every platform, or you could just blaze through stomping every enemy you see. Truly a masterpiece.

This game is truly one of the best $5 you could ever spend for your phone. If you like challenging but fair gameplay, charm, wit, personality, precision, with no microtransactions or advertisements to interrupt you along your journey, then I highly recommend it. While the controls could certainly take some getting used to and the difficulty can be intimidating, as long as you persevere you will succeed and this game will become one of your favorite shooters of all time.

The game itself is great. I had it on PC, but since my PC died, I bought this for mobile. I don't really like ths mobile controls at all and I wish it had controller support. I have the means to connect my Xbox controller to my phone, there are also bluetooth controllers. I think there was an option for controls before, but can't remember and when I look I can't change it. This would be better with tilt controls or proper controller support.

The game is worth the experience. There's much action, many tense moments, space to master and have fun. My biggest gripe about the game is the controls. my hands are big. Holding my office portrait style bunches my hands together and inhibits effective gameplay. Is there a landscape mode or some way to change the control scheme?

This game is an absolute gem in a sea of garbage on the Play store. I grew up loving playing my NES, and Downwell fits right in with that system's best games. It's fast-paced, challenging in a completely fair way, and most of all: fun! The only problem is that with the controls, you're essentially pressing nonexistent buttons on a touchscreen, and that sometimes messes you up. However, the controls are still done in the best possible way. I play this game daily and I still just love it.

For $3 this game is a steal. Perfect gameplay, perfect graphics, perfect soundtrack, there's not much more to be said. No stupid ads, no dumb@ss micro transactions, you just buy the game and you have literally hours of fun. Quite possibly the best game on the android play store.

J70%
by J####:

This has to be one of the only Android games I've played that requires hours and hours to beat not because of any upgrades or time gates, but because I legitimately needed to practice and improve as a player to progress further. Actually, I still haven't got past the third area because I suck, but y'know...

Please add support for controllers like moga. It's a great game, but touch controls always make games suffer. I get cramps in my hand for playing too long and I just wish I could press real buttons

This game is an absolute mastapeece. Don't be intimidated by the learning curve. It takes time to get the hang of the mechanics, but if you keep at it you will gradually begin to understand the unique and complex "rhythm" the game demands of those who play it. Takes time to master, but I can readily admit is one of the more rewarding gaming experiences I've had. It's old-school hard, and old-school fun. It's been on my phone for over a year, and recently I started playing again only to find myself just as hooked as I was the first time. Easily worth the $3 price tag, and honestly the devs deserve even more. This is one of those games you will never want to uninstall, because you know you will want come back and play again in the future. Definitely one of those "play it forever but you're still not tired of it" kind of gems. Stop reading reviews and buy it already! ????

I love this game. I play it on Android and PC however, I'm frustrated I can't play it using a gamepad on Android. As I see here there should be gamepad support but it doesn't work on my OnePlusOne using an XboxOne wireless controller. If you could try to fix it, I would really appreciate it and rate 5 stars.

Absolutely Fantastic. I've been playing for almost 200 hours now, and it's so easy to just jump in a game. It suits itself well for casually picking up and playing a short game, as well as spending hours just mashing trying to get to the bottom of the well. It would be worth 10× what DevolverDigital is asking for, just be ready for the crushing difficulty of it. It has a very steep learning curve, but once you can start chaining combos, the game really opens up.

R70%
by R####:

Best action mobile game I've ever played, hands down. Graphics got a nice old-school style and you quickly unlock different color palette choices, so you're bound to find one you like. Controls are tight and easy to learn. Gameplay is smooth, though can get frantically quick if you miss a platform you were aiming for. My only gripe with the game is you can't "save" your progress during a run. For example, if you clear through 1-2 and then exit the app, you are made to reset your progress from the beginning of 1-1. Not sure if this is a bug or what, but it makes it a little more inconvenient if you just want to play for a few minutes here and there.

Not gonna lie, I bought this for iOS, PC, and now Android. Nearly perfect for what it is. The controls work much better than you would expect. My only real complaint: no cloud save. I'd love to play this on both my phone and tablet and have them sync up.

Ah, the serenity of the fall - the perpetual plummeting downward into the void beyond and beneath. It is a motif of fundamental power and deep significance to mankind, but never has the philosophical nature of descent been catalogued with such bold and elegant grace as here and now, in old-school action platforming mobile/PC video game Downwell. Our small, pixelated, gender-amorphous hero embodies the rapturous joy of letting go; the thrill and wonder of embracing a fate that lies just out of sight.

Fantastic game. I only have one issue with this version. I wish I could have my controls below the playable area so I can see all of the available screen. Otherwise this is a super fun addicting game that you need to play, especially if you like games like binding of Isaac or enter the gungeon.

I play it on my PC all the time, and I bought the android version because I'd like to play it on the go with my bluetooth keyboard, but, while the keyboard works, none of the buttons let me jump, and I can't figure out why the hell it doesn't work, so I can't play it. If this is fixed, I'll update my review to five stars, because it's a fantastic game, I just really want to play it.

Make the gems a different color!!!!! C: Man the inputs need fixing / customization options. I've never had a mobile game make my joints sore. Wound up getting it on PC instead. Much better with actual buttons. Still worth the money.

I love the look and feel of this game. I play it when I have down time. My only request, please create a layout where the controls are not part of the screen, i have big hands so I'm my own worst enemy. I can't see what's coming.

Very challenging, but take the time to develop your skill and this game will reward you in kind. It's old-school hard, and old-school fun. Keeps me coming back. I play every day, a bit at a time. $3 might seem like a lot, but the devs deserve it for making such a great game. Instant classic for my mobile library (which also includes games like Organ Trail and Out There). Play them forever and never get tired of them kind of games. This is one of those.

This game is amazing! If you like frantic roguelikes with quick play times, this is the game for you. There is only one problem, the controls for the game are located at the bottom of the screen. There is an option to spread the movement buttons and the jump button apart but not to move these buttons up on the screen. If I could play the game with the controls located at the top of the screen it would be much better. Still worth buying for a cheap amazing game however!

Because it can be played in pretty short bursts, Downwell is a great game for mobile, and it's different every time, so it doesn't get boring quickly. Great gameplay, and surprisingly good controls for a platform-y mobile game played on a touchscreen. My one complaint is that the controls/buttons can't be moved up and down the screen. They're a little low for my taste, but if I could move them a little higher to where my thumbs naturally rest, Downwell would be a perfect mobile game imo.

by I####:

This game is addictive and tons of fun, with old-school graphics and nice touch-screen controls that haven't given me any problems at all. The main the to be aware of going in is that this game is far from easy, so if you like a good challenge then you will keep coming back, but if not you may want to hesitate before buying. My only complaint as of now is the lack of a back, or exit, button, so you have to force-close the game manually. Small gripe, but worth mentioning. All in all, it's well worth it.

I normally don't care for mobile games and never spend full price on them but Downwell is more than deserving of the three dollar price tag. It's unbelievably fun and the controlls are the best I have ever encountered on a mobile game. Everything about Downwell is perfect from the gameplay to the visuals to the music and sound to the unlockable palettes. This is a must play for anyone that feels stuck in a mobile gaming rut.

I'm not a huge fan of mobile gaming and find most to be boring and unnecessarily time consuming. This is one of the exceptions. This is how you make a mobile game. An indie game. A fun game. A game that feels like a game. A Devolver Digital game. A roguelite. A hard game. An almost flawless game. It's addictive, fast, varied, has a good amount of content and some of the most refined mechanics you could imagine. This is one of those few games that your phone deserves to have. Pure digital gold.

A fun, simple action game with random levels. Sessions are only a couple of minutes (at first), so great as a quick game. Just keep going down the well, with a variety of levels, power-ups, enemies and styles. Hard to play, but rewarding to master. Pixel art with only a few colors gives an 8-bit feel. Palette swaps continue fun shout outs to old systems.

X70%
by X####:

My goto for mobile games. The palettes are nice but feel weak as rewards. I would like to see more character options with more useful stats. The rolling character is all you need to play with it having 2 more hearts than the other 3 options. That being said still 5 star, Devolver never disappoints!!

Brilliant game. Just goes to show that you can find a game with infinite replay value on your phone for very little money. Simple graphics and music that work incredibly well, especially on mobile. Controls take a bit to get used to, to be honest, but they're good considering it's a port. Can't recommend it more.

I really enjoyed the PC version of this, and I'm happy to be able to experience it on my phone as well, but I feel like putting the buttons on the bottom of the screen was the worst idea. I feel like the bottom of the screen is the most important area to look at, and I can't see what's coming up if my thumbs are covering it. I also feel like it's at the wrong scale. Like it should be zoomed out just a bit. Why aren't there tilt controls for this? Bummer, but still okay for quick fun.

I was doing terrible. Looked up a let's play for pc. The game video was running at a much slower pace.THAT game looks super fun! Give me that game. Also, I am unable to shoot just one bullet. It's always a burst whenever I press the button. The developer has some bugs to fix. Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

I held off on buying this game for a long time. Though I've read several favorable reviews, I felt like the game still wasn't for me. To be honest, it looked too 'old school' to keep my interest. But boy, was I wrong. Right after downloading it and installing, I found myself sucked into this game for over an hour without even realizing it. The controls are responsive and snappy, there are plenty of perks and upgrades to unlock (some are permanent after a single unlock) which is very cool. All in all, this is a great game and worth the asking price. Highly recommend! Go get it now!

Very stylistic game, fun and fast paced. There's a few odd design choices though. Taking damage causes major framerate slowdown for a bit for some reason. More guns/upgrades would be nice. Playing on a OnePlus Two.

I love the game but it's missing something or at least I can't seem to find a way to totally mute the game, just the bgm, I would like to be able to mute the (admittedly well done) sound effects as well so I can listen to things while I play. Would be perfect if not for that glaring oversight

R70%
by R####:

Tense, frantic gameplay that results in lots of quick runs, gorgeous art-style, and solid controls make this an easy recommendation. Though I loved the steam version, I was worried the controls wouldn't feel great on a phone. Luckily, the game controls really well. All in all, Downwell is a great mobile game that takes advantage of being mobile. Runs great on my Nexus 6P, too

I bought this for my PC a while back and when I saw it on Android I bought it again. I still haven't beat the game but that's why I like it. Very challenging and such a simple concept. It is perfect for a phone as it's a well (tall and narrow). It's worth every penny. Thanks for the great game

Stellar game. Runs perfectly on my Sony Xperia z3. Great quick runs to play and pass time. I love that you unlock more color palates that completely change the feel of the game. Only gripe is what seems to be a small pool of character upgrades, but maybe I just haven't gotten far enough in the game yet. It doesn't make it any less fun though!

If you want to listen to your own music or, like me, to audiobooks while playing this game you are better off looking for something else as there is no way of disabling ingame sound effects. Music can be turned off in the options but the constant barrage of annoying sounds is just too much to be able to listen to anything else. @developer please add the option to mute all sound effects.
