In this interactive novel known as a "gamebook", you will plunge into the strange, dreamlike wonders of Mayan myth. You will confront ghosts and gods, bargain for your life against wily demons and find allies and enemies among both the living and the dead. Even if you're brave enough to survive the dangers of the spirit-haunted western desert, you must still confront the wizard, "Necklace of Skulls", in a fight to the death for your very own soul.

A NEW FORM OF INTERACTIVE FICTION

A perilous expedition meets with disaster. The sole survivor returns with dreadful news: your twin brother is dead. You swear vengeance upon his killer, the terrifying demon-wizard known only as Necklace of Skulls - a quest that will take you to the edge of the known world and beyond.

Drawing heavily upon authentic Mayan history coupled with an engaging fantasy adventure narrative, this gamebook changes the definition of interactive fiction forever.

Originally part of renowned author and game designer Dave Morris’s celebrated Virtual Reality series of choose-your-own-adventure gamebooks, Necklace of Skulls dispenses with dice rolling and luck, and instead puts your survival skills to the test in a lush and vibrant life-changing experience.

Necklace of Skulls has been recreated for touchscreen devices with all-new features including beautiful animated artwork from international award-winning graphic designer and illustrator Xavier Mula, save game options, an exclusive soundtrack and multiple characters to choose from.

Take a journey that you’ll never forget in Necklace of Skulls.

What I love about Necklace of Skulls is the art and how vibrant it is. The narrative also paints the world in a way that it feels like you're actually there, and it's exciting to see where your choices lead you, and in hindsight think about all the other options you didn't consider. That said, I thought the storage limit was a bit stingy, especially with the amount of items you find in the way. Also, the game kept on crashing at certain points which just dampened the experience as a whole. Needs fixing!

The setting is fun in a sea of fantasy games set in medieval england but a lot of puzzles and so forth are very obtuse. Unless you like dealing with a lot of dead ends and using a walkhrouh, it's going to get frustarting. Trial and error game play is fine for some. The rock paper scissors combat leaves a lot to be desired. Also, I wish you could place book markers so you don't have to replay long segments.

I did not go very far in this game yet before becoming too annoyed to continue and frankly I don't know if I will try again later or not. On the positive side, the story and writing are alright so far and I really like the art. Also, checkpoints, which is a very good (though unfortunately rare) thing in this sort of games. However, the inventory system is very irritating. I was not even done with the prologue before I was out of inventory space, six items being the maximum ? I started with two slots tken, one for currency and one for the letter, them bought some items at the market and already had to reload and only buy the waterskin and rope since there was no space left for the health restoring cake and the magic bead I was given just after. I hope there aren't any other important items, because I really don't know what to throw away : currency ? letter to prove who I am to the woman who will make my travel arrangements ? waterskin which probably will help not dying of thirst ? rope which is always always useful ? magic cakes to keep from dying ? magic bead to keep from dying should I cross the underworld ? Or not... Just after finishing the prologue someone already wants me to buy a rain bracelet. Sorry, but wasting time deciding which items to keep is not my idea of fun. And don't talk to me about realism when I have to throw a bead away to make space for a rope, or vice-versa.

One of a kind, but hard as hell. Tried many times and have yet to win. Still fun to try, though!

My kids & I R all big fans of interactive fiction, I've loved the genre since I was a kid in the 70s (yeah, I'm OLD) so I approach them with not a little nostalgia. There are many good examples of 'choose your own adventure' available 4 Android but Cubus' entries R very unique in that they create their own atmosphere 2 a higher degree than most. Definitely worth the $.

Choosing certain options cause the game to crash. I'm less than an hour in and I've already encountered this several times on my GS5. Frustrating because the game is very interesting.

Terrific artwork. Loading times leave something to be desired tho. Story is a bit hard but i like a good challenge.

I actually loved the game at first, the design and storyline was interesting. But sometimes when I choose a certain option, the game kept on crashing and I tried it several times until I gave up and choose another option. For the last one, I only had that 1 option which kept on crashing, hence I couldn't continue the game. I'm pretty upset as I have paid for this.

An excellent recreation of one of Dave Morris's classic gamebooks. The only negative is that it occasionally crashes my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, but the app is so much fun that I couldn't deduct a star for that. If you plan to adapt any other Morris books, I'd LOVE to see Heart of Ice. Food for thought!
