The Lords of Midnight for Android
This is the one game I played to the end on my Spectrum (never quite finished Revenge). Of course I also made a beautiful map, which was I'm shamed to admit was what I enjoyed most! This app is a truly faithful reproduction of the original. Thankyou and well done for continuing to support it and MS's memory.
Favourite 80's spectrum game i remember it actually caused me sleepless nights thinking of the best strategy to defeat doomdark. Simple but brilliant
A great nostalgic throwback to a game that kept me stymied for a long time as a kid on C-64
A very good enhanced port
Excellent conversion to android ????
As soon as i found out this game was on Android i had to have it. and it hasn't disappointed either. I love the interface and everything runs smoothly. I'm excited just to have this app on my phone. I loved this game back in the Spectrum days. Lets hope for the follow up game is released also.
Well, here we go again. Marching out to do battle 30 years on. Great fun.
Forget eye candy in modern gaming, this is just why a game can grip a person. Once entered, this world will keep you inside it, like a book, only better. enjoy.
This is the game I played the most in the old zx spectrum days and the game I played the most in my android phone. Well spent money
A very good enhanced port
Excellent conversion to android
Captures the original faithfully and the UI is very well designed.
Faithful facelift of a truly evocative game.
Loved it when I was a kid, still great!
So playable/repayable with the additions of return to dawn and the exploration map.
I have been a fan of this game since the ZX Spectrum days and consider the best game ever created. This version, made in memory of it's original creator Mike Singleton, is a very accurate version with updated graphics but still keeping to the original style - A real labour of love. If you know it from it's Spectrum days, then just download it, you will get exactly what it says on the tin! If you are not old enough to remember that far back, download not just a piece of gaming history, but a real masterpiece of strategic game play. Command huge armies across a beautiful rendered world, make adventure for the Ice Crown and defeat the evil Doomdark. The author is now working on recreating Singleton's other epic, the sequel Doomdark's Revenge. I've never purchased a game for a phone before, but this was one of the best and most worthwhile £2.99s I have ever spent. It plays like a dream. Still just has hard to beat as the original. However, the controls just flow and it works a treat. I have nothing but massive praise. Very well done.... Just buy it!
Fantastic recreation of a wonderful game, devised by one of the most ingeniously devious minds of my generation...I was greatly saddened to hear of his passing. Lord of Midwinter, eh? Beautiful touch! :D Mike would have loved that! He once said (in an interview with an old computer mag - HCW or C&VG) that his ambition was to write the computer equivalent of chess...a game that would still be played thousands of years from now! Well, in my future incarnations, I reckon I'll still be playing it! :) Haven't managed to recruit him yet...think I need Luxor...even Rorths can't get him, but I'll have fun finding out :)
Such a wonderful recreation of such an original game. I cannot say how many times I played the original on Spectrum and Commodore, but I look forward to vanquishing Doomdark once again. Well worth every penny. Now for Doomdark's Revenge...
One of my favorite games remade with a perfect touch interface. Must have.
Fantastic find where I spent hours of my childhood . like finding an old friend again.
You youngsters won't understand the impact this game had on the gaming industry, it was magnificent, glad to rediscover my youth! Just spent the last hour playing and I must say they've done a fantastic job it plays great! I'm sure Mike Singleton would be proud that we're still playing his game 30 years on. Hopefully we'll get more classic game conversions to Android as Android is the future!
Just like you said it took me to a time in my youth. Very sorry to hear of Mike's passing, this prob one of the first games to grab me, along with laser squad and x-com. Easy going game to play. Would hope some other classics could be as smoothly running on today's equipment. Remember also meglo-mania.lol
Thank you so much chili hugger for keeping this gem so faithful to the original with such cool and slick interface upgrades! Mike Singleton, rest in peace.
This was the best game of its time when I got my first Spectrum. It is a perfect replica and brings back some amazing memories. The story is superb and the pace perfect. If you've not played this game before but are prepared to be totally immersed in an epic tale then you have a real treat ahead.
What an awesome conversion. Great new graphics, derived from the original 8-bit ZX Spectrum version. The original turn-based war/quest game? Bring on Doomdark's Revenge!
RIP MIke. Thanks for making winter evenings fly by in the 80's exploring the land of midnight. Modern games developers should take a look to see how it is done!
Loved this in my youth, now I can play it properly as its near impossible on an emu without the keyboard overlay. Just amazing thanks
A big thankyou.. This and doomdark are my all time favourites. Kept me busy for a long long time. Hopefully now I can find a way of completing this legendary game! The youth of today may find it hard to see where i am coming from.. They cant Go back 30yrs to experience it 1st time around. Mike Singleton ...legend!
Just perfect.. The game in many ways has just not aged.
Cool open-world game.__One small thing that I think would be a great help would be maybe a "choose" icon on the think/seek/hide screen (smaller icons?). As it is now, it takes three taps to go from thinking to seeking. Also, maybe provide a way to disable the direction arrows that flicker when scrolling or tapping a direction (or just scrap them)? They don't add anything and seem a little annoying after playing awhile.__In any case, this game is worth trying.
An update to a genuine all-time classic that everybody should play. This is computer gaming history at it's best. Roll on Doomdark's Revenge!!
My all time favourite game brought up to date. Chris Wild has done wonders with the series over the years (DOS port, Midnight Engine) and this is the crowning glory. Mike would have been proud, but of course you know that already :)
Loved this game way back in the spectrum days. The gameplay is smooth and fast. The graphics are superb and kept in the traditional way. Thank you for bringing back this legendary game.
For those who remember the old one, you won't be disappointed. A perfect update in that it plays just like the old game while looking more polished and having a few new features that don't actually impact in the authenticity.
What a great game. Mike Singleton was so ahead of his time in the 80s. All his 8bit and 16bit games are so great. A great piece of gaming history. Classic!!!!
Back to when I was 13 yay!
Played it the first time around, it's just as much fun this time around also.
Updated version of best C64 game ever. RIP Mike.
I remember spending hours playing this as a kid, making elaborate maps on graph paper... I'd known about your PC conversion for years and happily found this today. And now I can't stop playing as I relive my youth! Thank you for doing such a fine job on an absolute belter of a game. :)

This is an excellent remake with some useful additional functions to make it easier to use such as a compass which appears if you long press the screen. I hope they can add a hall of fame feature, to show who's completed the game fastest in quest mode, campaign mode, or with the least casualties etc. Also some of the buttons could be slightly better placed. Nevertheless, well done!
