About Space Trader

Space Trader is a port of the Palm OS game of the same name, created by Pieter Spronck. A classic among Palm gamers of the era, it was named Freeware Game of the Year by Handheld Computing in 2000.

This Android port faithfully reproduces the original game. Your goal is to earn enough money, whether by honest trading or other, seedier means, to retire to your own moon. Buy goods on one planet to sell to another, but watch out for space pirates! If you're tough enough, hunt down pirates to earn rewards. If that seems too above-board, try smuggling illegal items for spectacular profits. Or, if you'd rather, become a pirate yourself and rob other traders of their goods. Be careful, though. The police take notice of illegal activity...

Just like the original, Space Trader for Android includes:
• Four different skills with which to customize your character.
• Ten different trade goods, two of which are illegal but very profitable.
• Ten different ship types, some well-suited for particular play-styles.
• More than ten different ship upgrades, some of which are common, and others only available as rewards for particularly noteworthy deeds.
• Over 100 unique worlds randomly generated for each new game.
• Over a dozen missions and special encounters, if you can find them.

This Android port also has new features:
• New high resolution reproductions of the original in-game graphics!
• Five different themes! Choose between light or dark versions of Android's Holo and Material styles, or truly bring back the past with classic Palm colors.
• Optionally randomize quest systems. No longer return to the same places over and over again every game!
• Line-by-line examination of the original game code led to over 15 bugfixes included in the port.
• Optional UI updates including extra shortcuts, zoom gestures, and animations.

This is Oolite on Android aka comador64 Elite the great-grand-daddy of all space trading games

My favorite game ever, lovingly reproduced. He even included a Palm OS theme.

My dad used to play the original game on his old palmar before I was born... About two years ago he told me he loved this game and the description he made of it was really amusing, so I went in the attic looking for his palmar. I found it and I studied it for about a week to understand how it used to work. Then I spent the following three months searching the name of the game on internet because my father didn't remember it. When I found out it was "Space Trader", it took me a month (again) to find the proper file to install on the palmar. I played this wonderful game for more than 150 hours till now, switching between the charming original palmar and a porting for windows. Now that I've decided to play on my mobile phone, I'm sure this will be my favourite game of all time. If you managed to read all my story, I thank you and I hope you liked it.

Fun for a while...It seems like I should be able to buy weapons for my ship, but I haven't found a port where that's possible. Also would be great if there were better ships elsewhere. Maybe I just haven't played enough?

Buggy game. Engaging for 15 minutes. For a really cool trader game, the best one is Doug Caruther's Space Trader for the Commodore 64. A pretty glaring defect... I can't buy lasers because it says the equipment slots are full, but when I sell the equipment, I have no equipment installed and all slots are open. Because of that, you can only fight for the first 10 minutes of play, then you are condemmed to flee from then on. Yeah, pretty boring. If that's fixed, I might revisit the game

Good game, but needs some form of some kind of save! Even if dying wipes out the save, it's better than nothing! I played around until I got my first real cargo ship, 50 Storage, no guns, got around 40k more saved up, then some punk pirate got me on my way to earn another payment, said I only progressed less than 2%! I was trading for over an hour! Yikes! How is anyone supposed to make it to 100% without any save if a Phone call can reset the whole game?

Do you have permission (or the ability) to change the code to your own idea? If so, then can I ask that you maintain a separate app where you mess around and update the code to your own liking? I would be very happy to help you out with it as well

I just spent 160-odd in-game days traveling around the galaxy, balancing the massive profits from gunrunning, the desire to not be shot up by police patrols, and the supply of goods on each planet. The biggest problem I've seen so far is the lack of available ship upgrades - you can buy bigger ships all over the place, but chances to fill those weapon/shield/gadget slots pop up rarely and at random. In those 160-odd days, I only found a "haggling computer." Good thing I wasn't focusing on combat, huh?

I loved the palm version of this game, but the pirates are just ridiculous in this version. I was averaging about 8 encounters per warp. After over 20 in a single warp, I'm calling it quits (this was on normal)

The Android version of this game is great in that there are no ads, no music, and easily understood rules. The goal is to earn 500K credits in order to purchase a moon to retire to. But when you do buy a moon all you get is a message to go claim it, and your bank account is charged 500K credits. No picture of a pretty moon, no obvious win. If you choose the menu option to retire, you get sent to a hell hole volcanic planet. Really a downer of a win, and disappointing so much that I am going to uninstall. How hard would it be to have a moon picture rather than a "sucker!" volcanic planet?

Great port of a great PalmOS game! Essentially Elite without the 3D part. I hope newer generations of gamers will get to know this classic thanks to two devs (heroes!) who've made ports to Android.

Perfect clone of one of my favorite games. Color schemes are great. Great game to zone out and play.

The game was fun until I upgraded my ship and couldn't find even a hint of a way to find weapons or a shield for it.

Good interface, good options, enjoyable implementation of this classic. Thank you so much.

...it's OK. Some games don't age too well, while others do. Two examples of the latter, with or without updates, are the Star Trek and Stellar Track types of games (there's one for Android), and Kennedy Approach (I have it on PC). I can't rate the port quality, having never played the original. I didn't encounter any obvious bugs. Strictly as is, though, this game could use some updates, in terms of gameplay and maybe graphics. It doesn't have enough to keep me interested, compared to other games.

No matter which system I go to (may it be Hi-Tech or Industrial or what have you) there is no option to buy weapons and shields for my ship. I have a Wasp (biggest ship in tge game) and still have to flee from gnats. Not cool. Makes the game get old fast.

Z70%
by Z####:

But gets old very quickly. Definitely needs more stuff :) edit: understood, any chance to keep killing those pesky cowards with 'continue attacking fleeing ship', even if I don't have the other option set? :)

Simple to play, addictive and challenging. Manage to get to a winning point at all but "Impossible" difficulty. If anyone has managed to get far on impossible let me know. Maximizing your Navigator stat when creating a character will help. Makes it more likely that you can evade enemy fire

Good little game, but there have been a number of times I have had my ship take hits from Pirate ships, but when I go to the Ship Yard at my destination it says my ship is 100%. Saves me the cost of repairs I suppose.

Z70%

A completely loyal copy, ad-free as far as I can tell. Some usability changes would be nice, as the menus are a little cumbersome, but I won't complain when a port errs on the side of following the original.

Z70%
by Z####:

I played the original for hours, a couple of items I miss on this version is being able to buy extra storage container, shields and different types of weaponry, that being said, I still love this game... I have to take it back, I figured it out.

Z70%
by Z####:

Sometimes simplicity is an art, and in this case this game fits that mold. This is a port from an old Palm Pilot game, with no change I can detect. Younger generations likely won't find it engaging with its 1990 graphics and interface, but I found the game as fun as I originally did nearly 20 years ago.

Z70%
by Z####:

I still have fun playing this game from time to time. I only have one suggestion for this game: make the game options a little easier to find. I spent a half hour trying to find the options to auto-refuel and repair your ship.

This is a good game. It's not difficult, but it is fun to play. I played it back when it was on Palm. If the game it too easy, you can turn up the difficulty.

I was so happy to see that this was ported over VERY WELL from the original PalmOS version to Android! Great job, the extras are nice as well! Could use a little bit of a GUI clean up, but works great and brings back memories!

As a former Palm user, I enjoyed Space Trader as a go-to time-suck for many years...and this Android port is faithful to the original. Well done, and thank you...both for bringing it back to life, and making it completely ad-free (as verified by LostNet FW)!

Best game ever, all you need in a mobile game and nothing extra! Some more depth and graphics with the same controls would be great, but for the price, this is the best game out there (yes it's a remake, yes it's old school, but its rrrreal good!)

Best game ever simple plot but addictive, happy that is for android, no big graphics details for being a good game. God memories of this game I love it
