About Crew Chief Lite for Project Cars
Pit to car radio app for Project Cars.
This app is an alternative race engineer which contains more accurate and detailed radio messages than the built in race engineer. It knows many of the AI drivers' names which will be included in messages where appropriate, and can also be extended to include real drivers' names. It's also a spotter, and will tell you when there's a car along side. The app includes voice recognition with a set of phrases you can use to request updates from the race engineer.
The app runs in the background and continues to play messages when the screen is off or another application is being used.
The Lite version works for all cars and tracks. It includes corner name mappings for Brands Hatch Indy and Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuits.
To use the app, your phone / tablet must be connected to via Wi-Fi to the same network that the console / PC is on, and needs a good quality connection to work properly. In the in-game options you need enable the UDP option (in the Gameplay settings). The app works best with this option set to 1, 2, or 3.
App permissions
Record audio: Needed for voice recognition.
Read external storage: Needed for future additions to the driver names the app can say.
Modify system settings: Needed to enable Wi-Fi high performance mode (this is required in order to receive the game data).
Prevent phone from sleeping: The app keeps the CPU, sound player and Wi-Fi running when the device's screen has switched off or the app is running in the background.
Voice commands
The app will respond to lots of voice commands. Using this functionality isn't necessary to get the best out of the app - it will automatically play messages it considers important without needing to be prompted - but some additional information can be obtained by using voice commands. The commands the app understands include:
How's my [engine / brakes / suspension / body work / aero] - gives a damage assessment
How's my [fuel / tyre wear] - gives an assessment of your current fuel level or tyre condition
What's fuel level - reports your fuel level (in litres)
What's my [best lap time / last lap time / position] - reports your best / last lap time (if it was a valid lap) or your position
What's my [gap in front / gap behind] - reports the time gap to the car in front / behind in the race
What's the [car in front / car behind]'s [best lap time / last lap time] - reports opponent best / last lap times
What's the [car in front / car behind / the leader]'s [best lap time / last lap time] - reports opponent best / last lap times
What's the [car in P 10]'s [best lap time / last lap time] - reports opponent best / last lap times for the specified opponent race position
What's the [air temperature / track temperature] - reports the air or track temperature
Spot / don't spot - toggles the spotter function on / off
Keep quiet / shut up / I know what I'm doing / no more updates - temporarily switches off radio messages (note that the spotter messages will continue to play)
Keep me informed / talk to me - switches radio messages back on
Repeat last message / say again / repeat please - replay the last radio message

To use voice commands, you need to assign a button to the 'Open radio channel' action. Start Project Cars and ensure your controller is plugged in and the app's UDP option is enabled. Click the Open radio channel action in the Assign buttons screen, then click the Assign button. Then press the controller button you want to assign to this action. It the 'Hold button while talking' checkbox is selected, you must hold the button down while talking and the app will process the voice command once the button's released. If this checkbox isn't selected you can just press and release the button, make your voice command, and the app will process the command as soon as it's recognised it.

If project cars is your main sim this is a must own. Only I recommend if u use a wireless headset then u need a pair of ear bud to go under your headset so u can hear your spotter. Beside that, I Love this app

At first I was having trouble getting it to work, but then I read a reply that you had made to a review and it really helped. I had to turn the UDP to a higher setting. This is one of the coolest things to play with. Will definitely be getting the full version.

Superb app. Using this on the PS4 and it really does help to have a spotter when 3 screens arent an option. Also adds to the immersion and keeps you informed of your performance. Definately recommended

I like to use surround headset for my games. Not sure how everyone else can be OK holding up their phone/tablet just to hear and talk to it. I would have thought at least make it feel part of the game by talking through the mic & vise versa. When I do use it, the "chief" doesn't respond too well. Guess I would have to mute the game, which has such good quality, I might add.

This app is fantastic. One of my friends who plays iRacing, has always said how good racing games are with a spotter. I just wish that project cars would implement it into the game. So I didn't have to use my tablet. Anyway great app. Just wish I'd found it sooner

Been fiddling for half an hour and can't get voice activation to work. I can assign button but what commands does it understand? Im a bit confused. On a sony z3. Will buy as soon as I can figure this out . I just want to be able to ask what damage I currently have if that's possible? MY MISTAKE, I HAD DISABLED GOOGLE VOICE RECOGNITION ON MY PHONE.

This app dose every thing you could dream of a crew chief doing but driving the car for you. I have been a forza motorsports racer since day one and I bought project cars the day it was released on XB1 after 2 hr's I gave up and never touched it agan till I herd of this app I try ed the demo and with the patches to the game and this BEAUTIFUL APP I will only run games this app supports it's that dang good..!!

Ive tried using Bluetooth headset with this app but to no avail. When the headset is paired the app stops working. Is there a way to get around this? LG Stylo phone with Blueparrott 5250 XT headset. Thank you. Other than that great app.

I use headsets and crew chief voice dosn't come thru headset on PS4. Added a cable from my phone to headset and now it works great with the headsets I'm going to buy full version now.

Edit: Thanks, I didn't notice that option and it was exactly what was needed. Works perfectly now. About the permission - I was wrong too, though I'd have sworn it didn't list it. Never mind, I'm off to get the real deal. Original: Works great when working, however it never asked for the prevent sleep permission and cuts off as phone screen goes off on my HTC M8. Provides fantastic immersion and is plug and play otherwise, which exceeds my expectations.

Very helpful to have decent crew chief with lap splits, spotting, etc. Can verbally inform u of nearly all racing info & u can ask all important questions, while never taking your eyes off the road. (Stock UDP settings on a Note4 made battery hot, but this developer's quick response regarding the correct UDP setting for this samsong ph fixed that) [NOTE4-set UDP 3 or 4]with no heat when Hotspot, batt charging, Crew Chief & many other apps are running concurrently. Pcars+this app= 100% better racing

Very unclear what tracks and cases the demo works with. Trying to give it a try but I don't know what car or track to use and be at to do so. No purchase until I know I like this app
