Thomas Was Alone for Android
A Brilliant port of an amazingly atmospheric and thoroughly enjoyable character driven platformer!! The levels are fun and beautifully designed. Controls are simple yet very responsive. This is one game that does not suffer from mobile controls. This game runs with no lag on my galaxy note 4 device. A true example of how to port a game to a mobile platform and do it right. The devs deserve the 5 stars easily. If you've not played Thomas was alone before? Be prepared for a treat.
This game is more than the average minimalist game. You will be surprised about how far personification will be stressed in this enticing story. Sure, the controls and character selections might be a bit of a hassle, but it honestly doesn't stand nearly as far as what this game is trying to say. If you're a fan of good stories, humorous narration and simple graphics, you cannot go wrong with this excellent buy.
Some kind of magic going on here. I got this game because of the reviews and the price, but I figured it was just another falling game. It's not, it's a great puzzle game, and thanks to the narration the characters are so much more involving than simple squares and rectangles have any right to be. The music is nice too, very relaxing. I'm old enough to appreciate that Thomas is Jump Man without arms and legs, and the sound effects are very Jump Man too. Had to change the controls from digital to analogue to enjoy it. One downside the writing is too small on my tablet, can't imagine what it would be like on a phone.
What a great game! The quirky storyline was narrated brilliantly, and the characters (whilst being an assortment of quadrilaterals) felt so real! I loved all of them, and the music... Wow the music. That may have been the thing I enjoyed the most it was incredible, really fitted with the storyline and the game design. Fantastic game.
Love it! It's simple, but beautiful too! The design is great and the voice acting really adds character to the game. It actually gives coloured shapes a personality too! Definitely recommend this game to anybody looking for a relaxing game with that something extra that so many games, especially mobile games, are missing. EDIT: playing through a second time on my new phone (literally never replayed an android game before) and it's still amazing and full of charm. BUY THIS GAME.
This is a great little game! I enjoy the story telling, with a great voice to do the story. The game play itself starts off easy while getting a bit more difficult the more you play. It has kept me engaged this entire time, and with some smiles along the way. :) I would definitely recommend this game to pretty much anyone and everyone! I just absolutely love things like this, and this was done exceptionally well. Thanks devs for the lovely game!
First, some advice: check that you have enough room before you buy the app! It took quite a bit of deleting and shuffling of files before I could actually download. But that's my own fault. This is a beautiful game. The artwork, music, narration, and actual gameplay mesh together seamlessly to create a sometimes melancholy, other times ominous atmosphere. One thing I noticed, however, is that it doesn't quite fit in my screen. It doesn't seem to affect gameplay; I just can't fully see the quotes and menu.
It was a good idea and i liked it, but for a story game, there was barely any story. We were never told what the program was supposed to be or why it was a failure. And it ended so suddenly, with no build up at all. It was pretty easy all the way, if the controls actually work. The only one that didnt stop working every 20 seconds was touch. I would rate 1 star but it was an original idea.
Overall great, great concept but like others said I'd try to change players but jump to my death, the player toggle being super tiny and the move/jump controls so broad. The game would've been fine without the voice over and better yet without the subtitled narrative in the way of game-play. The written instructions too, were blocking my view. As for the glitches mentioned I couldn't jump in 2 or more places.
I like everything about it except occasional problems with the controls. They are sluggish and inaccurate, frustrating when you're in a time sensitive level. I don't mind the minimalist design as much as I thought I would, and it's great that you can balance your own separate volumes. The dialog is cute and entertaining, but in a level you're repeating, the dialog shouldn't repeat. it should pick up when you're past the repeated part. The puzzles are clever and fun. Overall a beautiful experience. Buy it!
The main challenge of this game is dealing with it's controls, since you can figure out solution to 'puzzles' in seconds. It's absolutely tedious, you have to redo simple maneurs many many times, just because author of this game couldn't come up with a better way to control speed of your moving rectangle. Also, game completely lacks things as simple as anti-aliasing. My eyes hurt after playing it for a ten minutes. Lack of anti-aliasing isn't minimalist (and being minimalist isn't excuse for outright lazzyness), it just shows that developers of this 'game' have no idea about what they are doing.
This is one of my favorite games. It's simple, but I just enjoy the heck out of it. The narration is fantastic and the story is emotional and interesting. The platforming is very good as well, and the mobile controls work surprisingly well. I've played on Vita and Mobile and both have been fantastic. There are a few spots where mobile controls aren't fantastic, but this game isn't about crushing difficulty or being overly precise, so it works out in the end. Love the game.
Big fan of indie games and this topped it all. Can't praise the narration and music enough, they breathe life into the game. 100s of levels and each one more beautiful than the last. A game very well made. As for the story, wish I had words to describe how gripping it was.
Im so glad this game has been moved onto mobile devices. This was one of my favorite titles from steam earlier this year, and im proud to own it on my phone now too! If you are thinking about whether to by this game or not, $5.85 is not much when you compare it to the rich story, detailed puzzles and many levels this game contains. I love it! Well done devs!
Edit: Still loving the game, but one change that would really help would be a color blind mode. I find it quite hard to differentiate between the block selection buttons on the levels with many different types of blocks. /Edit ----- Original review: Although the block selection detection is a little loose, and results in moving rather than switching blocks the game itself is charming, humorous and quite endearing. The narration and personalities of the blocks really sets this of from being just another block puzzle to something very enjoyable to play.
This game will make you sad over squares, obsess over oblongs, and generally rave to others about rectangles. It's a weird little platformer that's beautifully narrated by the fantastic Danny Wallace, and very nearly plays perfectly, except for character changing; when I try to change to a character who's icon is on the right side of the screen, I have to be so close to the home button that it's basically a gamble if I change character or hit that. Still, this game comes highly recommended despite that.
Best game I've ever played on Android. The characters are initially so simple, but they develop personalities as the game progresses and you experience emotional attachment to these guys. Their journey to the end is awe inspiring and emotional. The beautiful narration really adds depth and humor the the game. Truly superb game.
Most games fail when it comes to developing it's characters to the point you get emotionally attached to them. This game however succeeds, and somewhat surprisingly, that character is a mute red rectangle. The narration and story is fantastic, as is the simplistic art style. Control wise, it handles pretty well for a Mobile game, being very responsive most of the time, although the character switching buttons could be slightly bigger. Overall a fantastic game that shows how good games can be on Mobile!
This game is fantastic. It takes true talent to make me have feelings for a 2d rectangle that jumps, but this game pulls it off. Well worth the money, you will get tons of playtime and warm fuzzy tingly feelings better than a steak after being a vegetarian for a decade.
Who'd have thought plain shapes could be imbued with so much personality. And to feel invested in their progression is really tantamount to the writing and the wonderfully innocent narration. The touch controls are sometimes imprecise although the strength of the character development and fun yet not overly complex puzzles keep me coming back. Brilliant.
Decidedly average story, was expecting something 4th wall breaking or something but nothing overly exciting. Controls sometimes don't press when they should. Other than that alright game. Kinda internet flash indie standard. Well worth 10p. Also the text moves too fast, I'm a slow reader. The game play is interesting and different and the music is good
Overall a very beautiful game. I agree with others that the interface isn't great, especially character switching. A better alternative would be for the game to pause when you put your finger in the middle of the screen and then have character choices around that point, then unpause once the finger moves and lets go. Could also do with more in depth levels. Many are very simple. Style and music are perfect though. Very much enjoyed playing it through.
The game is good but when switching characters half of the time I were pressing Android home button instead of the tiny game button. Would be nice if you could make it a bit bigger for phones or something. To people who think they have reset their progress: just tap on select scenario and you'll be able to select your level.
Wasn't able to play this game initially for quite a while, eventually tracked the cause down to it not running with ART (not a major issue for now but given the next Android version is using nothing but that I hope it works come update day). Nonetheless a nice little puzzler, beautiful aesthetics with simple but solid controls. Well worth the price.
Thomas Was Alone is a highly produced Platform-Adventure beautifully narrated throughout. An austere and minimalist story of friendship and co-operation plays out through simple but brilliantly implemented controls. A dream to play and georgous throughout, Thomas Was Alone is an essential app, and suitable for the whole family to enjoy. 5 Stars!!
It's rare to find an app or game that brings so much emotion. The quality of this game, the music is something phenomenal. The narration is great with the flow of wonderful music. I was skeptical due to the price point but following the rating I took a risk. If you enjoy games like little big planet or the books/movie hitchhikers guide to the galaxy you will like this as it has a very similar vibe.
This game is nearly perfect. If it had Android TV support so that I could use a gamepad, it'd be perfect.
Very good game but can only play a few minutes after chapter 6.1 because the app crashes all the time. Disappointed
One of the best games I've ever played, takes you to another world! Looks pretty boring when you first download it, but it is anything but! Cannot stop playing it..... love it! Warning: Can make you inclined to say the odd naughty word, and do not play if you have things/jobs you should be doing.... because they won't get done! :)
I want to be able to play it at night but even with all three volume settings set to 0, it still makes noises (e.g. when a level is completed). Please fix this.
I'm usually not a big fan of platformers, but this game caught my eye and I've enjoyed my time with it. Simplistic, nice soundtrack, very good narration. My only complaint (and it's a minor one considering the nature of the game) is that it was a bit too easy, I only got stuck 2-3 times throughout the game and I'm usually terrible at platformers.
Very good writing, but sometimes I cannot read it because of my small screen and it goes off the edge. Rarely controls are annoying. Otherwise brilliant.
As soon as the music starts you know this game is going to be good, the track " Inertia " is a masterpiece and moves me, literally moves my soul, as a grown man whos played video games all my life, I sit of a night on my phone and something deep resonates in me everytime I load yhis game up, its a must buy.
The game's aesthetics are very pleasing, the narration and music especially. But the game itself doesn't really contain much puzzle solving. You grasp what has to happen very quickly, after that it's just tedious. The only times I've failed is due to poor controls, such as accidentally moving a piece when I'm trying to select a different "character." I'm on a Droid Turbo 2, that has digital "back," "home," and "app switch" buttons, instead of analog, so I've accidentally hit them at various times as well.
A 2D platformer with a story about curiosity, consciousness, interaction, collaboration, friendship, jealousy, misguidance, deceit, exploitation, courage, enlightenment and freedom. With fantatstic narration, moving soundtracks, and minimal clean vistuals, Thomas was alone worth the money and A must play. You'll care more and more for the characters as you progress.
Upgraded to marshmallow and it now persistently bails out during play on my Nexus 7. Please fix this
This app is special in the way it tells a story with no fancy graphics. There aren't any games out there like this one, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good story or puzzle game. It should also be commended because it made me care about a bunch of quadrilaterals.
Although it doesn't have immersive mode, still it deserves 5 stars due to its unique gameplay/storyline.
Fantastic immersive experience with an enthralling narrative. With that said, the only minus that is extremely annoying is a hardware issue. I have a Oneplus One, which has a 'Home' touch-capacitative button at almost the same place where you activate a character. So I have on countless occassions been thrown out of the game and into my home screen

Tricky levels and surprisingly deep characters despite the simple-looking graphics. Too many recent games are easy enough to beat on the first shot; not this one. Plays really well on my Nexus 10, though I often miss run-and-jumps that are close to the edge, and keep triggering move/jump when I want to switch characters. A great game overall, though!
