Tamagotchi Classic - Gen1 for Android
Guys, to get the status press the scale multiple times. Tamagotchis are notoriously difficult to care for, I used to wake up at 5 am to care for mine, and back in my day they cost $10. It would be useful to be able to move the app to the SD card and a widget would be nice, but it's good for what it is.
An absolutely fabulous app port, nice job Bandai! I can now have my own little Tamagotchi like I wanted during my childhood. It's great to be able to have the classic egg, or to do the updated app. Everything works exactly the same, and if you don't want to shell out the $30+ for an actual Tamagotchi, it's a great alternative. My only reason for 4 stars is that I have killed countless poor Tamagotchi because of the lack of notification consistency. Sometimes I will go days without any, and it's always really disappointing to open the app again to see a preventable death. Also, Bandai, pleeeeeeease give us a widget and it would be perfect!
Its a neat app but the tamagotchi won't tell you its hungry and went to the bathroom right before it goes to sleep thus ensuring its death in the morning. That's cheap. And I've actually had mine die 4 hours after it being full, clean and happy. Very buggy. Very different than the actual toy.
Brings back so many memories! But lacking on the games...where's jump and bump? Sometimes the controls don't work. Also, some of the buttons are in the wrong order. I remember the toilet icon was the third button. But overall pretty good!
Definitely very nostalgic, although there are some bugs and kinks to work out (like notifications not working sometimes and freezing). I hope they bring the next gen and more. Trying to get masktchi now to get the secret character lol This was so nostalgic I went out and bought the real ones that were re-released in Japan for gen 1
I missed this... Hope to eventually see different generations as well though. Overall, good job! Only thing that could make it even better is if it had a widget for it as previously stated by a few other reviewers.
UPDATE: I find it interesting when someone calls them out on their FALSE ADVERTISING and requests a refund they IGNORE any requests for a refund. This is NOT tamogochi classic. If it was my tamogochi would be dead by now. This has to be based on one of the later generations because its not gen 1 AS ADVERTISED. Bunch of scumbags.
Not up to par. Can't get any tamagotchi other than the super skinny one, and the super fat one, no matter how I take care of each new one. Seems like the programming is flawed.
The buttons glitch out in toy mode most of the time for me, and it has to be played in app mode to work. There's not a lot to it for a paid app, it would be fun if you could unlock other gens of tamagotchi as you go. Some of the programming feels different from the original toy, but the visuals are spot on.
Perfect looking nostalgic game but constantly crashes on Galaxy Tab S2 and loses progress. Also very glitch in game; sometimes menus are skipped and it is necessary to exit and enter the game again. It would be more tolerable if I hadn't spent money on it.
Nostalgic and pretty straight forward. But for the price range I think I'd recommend hatchi more unless you really want that nostalgic feeling. Also a little buggy, strange outta nowhere crashes and unlockables becoming locked again.
One day my my mommy and daddy my mommy and daddy gave me a bad computer desk while I was testing the new desk my tomagotchi died I uninstalled the app and cryed for half an hour then I installed the game again but this time when I was feeding him I felt an uncomfortable feeling while on my first tomagotchi I felt happy until my first tomagotchi died
I have a Samsung grand prime and for some reason it's not working, it keeps saying "failed". So I'm very disappointed because I love tamagotchi games. If someone can help me, please do because I really want this to work especially because I payed.
Right now I'm have an issue where I'm not receiving notification from my tamagotchi. I've double checked, and the settings are set to receive them. This issue ended one of my beloved tamagotchi's life. Besides that, it's an okay game. Not a whole lot to do. But I still find myself checking on my pet every so often, sometimes just to play a game of rock, paper, scissors.
I don't get it...died 5 days both times...and it was totally happy and full. Had just played a game with it and not sick. Never grew past the second stage...not happy...
Cute and very much like the original! Pet is easy to keep alive if you enable notifications and check on it regularly. The reason most people's pets die early on is because the hatchling stage requires a lot of attention until it evolves. Check your phone every hour or so to make sure your pet is doing OK and you shouldn't have a problem at all. Second stage pet is much less demanding.
This app is delightful. Brings back all the nostalgia of having one when I was smaller. It seems that some gave bad ratings for not understanding basic controls explained at the beginning. Once in app, for those confused, pushing the magnifying glass to bring to app mode. From there just click the four icons on top and bottom. Your status bar is the gas mileage looking icon. Let me know if you need more helo. Good job developers!
It is not nearly as fun as I thought it would be. A total waist of my money
When I was younger my tomagachi always died... now I get to redeem myself at 30 years old! Yessss. A little advise to those who say theirs die even when fully nurished and disciplined... Read the instructions, fully. There's something you are over looking. An icon perhaps that means something but is easily ignored. I've only read the original instructions and IMO, those are the only ones you need to experience the tamagotchi! =o
Tamagotchi is nostalgic, and I'd argue that it's historically important to gaming. So I'm psyched to see a complete and accurate reproduction on Android. The original manual is there, style is legit, even the resolution is right. There are a couple features I feel could stand to be added--haptic feedback on button presses would better reproduce playing with a physical toy, for instance. But everything that is core to gen 1 tamagotchi is here. Fingers crossed for Gen 2 and the obscure ones like devilgotch.
Guys, to get the status press the scale multiple times. Tamagotchis are notoriously difficult to care for, I used to wake up at 5 am to care for mine, and back in my day they cost $10. It would be useful to be able to move the app to the SD card and a widget would be nice, but it's good for what it is.
This brings back alot of memories of my childhood. I remember asking y mom to take care of my tamagotchi for me while I was at school. Lol. It teaches responsibility. You have to care for it, and play with it, and clean up its poop.. this games makes me miss being a kid, where most of my stress was trying to keep my tamagotchi alive.
I take super good care of my tamagotchi and no matter how healthy this thing is it dies and I have to reset it... I am uninstalling because I can't get it to grow up. This past time I literally just fed and made sure I played games with it. The hearts were full and it wasn't sick and I died. I'm tired of having to start over!!! Worst $0.99 I ever spent...
Me an my gf bought it on 2 different phones. They do the same thing same time same notification timing to. 8:01pm last night 9:01pm tonight, Anyone else get told theirs went to bed.... Got a notification it needs a bath same time as my gf with the crap even on the same spot as hers. They've evolved same time. This is so server sync. Waste of time an money. Everyone does the same thing same time. Start posting notification times. See how many do the same thing at that time. Do not buy. Lol Died for no reason
Such a fun app, brings back some memories from when I was little. Glad to see they fixed the bug where your tamagotchi would die all the time, mines been alive for close to a week now. Good solid app, wouldn't change anything
When my tamagotchi poops the app feels like it needs to freeze. It also keeps beeping after I play with it. Other than that this app works flawlessly.
I like how you can change from toy to app mode, and I am loving reliving my childhood. For those who complain their tamagotchi is calling them too much, all you need to do if they call you for nothing is scold them. It is a measure to discipline them, and then they dont call you for nothing.
Update: I really wish u guys would fix the bug that's killing my pet and apparently a lot of other customers who have purchased this app. This app is the best one of its kind, in my opinion. It seems like a shame to me to give up n uninstall it before u fix it but it doesn't look like much is going to change Please fix the bug that kills my tamagotchi every time at about 5 years old. I can't get past that stage no matter how I take care of it!
Great for nostalgia but I actually paid money for this app and the buttons don't line up. I have to hit on the side of the button randomly to get it to work. It is very frustrating
I like the various shells and backgrounds, but I can only get tarakotchi every time, despite trying different patterns of care with each reset. Anybody else having same issue?
One day my my mommy and daddy my mommy and daddy gave me a bad computer desk while I was testing the new desk my tomagotchi died I uninstalled the app and cryed for half an hour then I installed the game again but this time when I was feeding him I felt an uncomfortable feeling while on my first tomagotchi I felt happy until my first tomagotchi died
Great app, but very glitchy. Freezes about 4 to 5 days for me. And I have to uninstall the app and reinstall it. And always happens when my pet is sleeping and leaves his droppings on the floor. I can't scold him or clean it up. Fix that glitch and I'll give it a higher rating
The button responsiveness is about what I imagine on the original device. And the game isn't interesting -- it's neat that it's the same as it was twenty years ago, but they really need to update it. The mechanic of keeping your tamagotchi entertained by either playing a game of chance (only one) or giving it a limited number of treats because an excessive amount will make it sick, is not a game by today's standards.
I was having a lot of fun with this app. But if I ever swiped away the app so it wasn't actively running in the background, which uses more of my battery, it would not notify me when the Tamogotchi needed something. This has resulted in several dead ones. Would give more stars if I would get notifications!!
This game is really fun, but whenever I try to do anything... An ad pops up! Is there a way to pay to get rid of them?
This is nothing like the original. There is no status bar to tell you what the levels are for everything like there should be. Glad I can get a refund!
I grew up with these things! I remember I had a Keychain with three or four of them everywhere I went. I even had alarms set to wake me up so I could check on them every night!
When you can get your old tamagatchi working, then you can stop using this app and make everyone happy. I wish I could see some real reviews here other than people whining about the original status bar not being available. That being said, why does my guy keep dying after he's a tadpole thing?
The game is fun but I CONSISTENTLY get closed out with a message saying "unfortunately, Tamagotchi Classic has stopped." At least 4-5 times per use. If they fixed that, this would be four stars.

I had been searching online for a tamagotchi to relive nostalgic Times from my childhood, but they were all so expensive. This app is an excellent alternative to the actual keychain pet. If cared for properly it will live, and grow just as the real ones do. Do not listen to naysayers. They clearly didn't understand how to take care of this virtual pet. Highly recommended for a dollar.
