About Art Stories FACES
Let’s observe, listen and play! If you make it wrong, don’t worry, try again until you become a real art explorer!
Here it is the first room of Art Stories virtual museum: a playing gym where kids can learn to observe colors, shapes and details.
Kids discover 5 portraits, painted by 5 famous artists; by playing, they acquire skills they can use inside museums, when visiting an art exposition, or when studying art at school.
Each painting sets a simple task, and each task is aimed at a different aspect of observation:
- details and overall design: watch and concentrate on a funny use of fruits and vegetables by Giuseppe Arcimboldo;
- volumes and shapes: by playing with Alice by Modigliani, children understand how to look at forms;
- hidden images: by composing a puzzle, kids discover the Man with clarinet by Pablo Picasso;
- colors and paintstrokes: have a look at Vincent Van Gogh's Self-portrait and choose the right colors. Never mind picking the wrong ones: you'll get a good laugh!
- stories behind details: choose the right elements in The girl with the pearl earring by Vermeer... you will discover the narratives behind the painting!
Having succeeds in all 5 games, kids will get a set of virtual tools and they will be encouraged to get out of their house and visit museums in the real world.
FACES is supported by Europeana, Europe’s digital cultural heritage platform (www.europeana.eu). Europeana provides access to over 50 million digital resources from more than 3,700 archives, museums and libraries in Europe and make it easier for everyone to use them for work, learning or fun.
