The pinwheel is a toy wind wheel that has been popular among kids of all ages and all times.

Playing with the pinwheel may additionally provide significant health benefits for breathing ability and respiration by strengthening the chest muscles and thoracic diaphragm when practicing the ability to blow stronger and for longer periods.

Blowing can be done using "Pursed Lips Breathing" (PLB) by exhaling through tightly pressed (pursed lips) and inhaling through the nose with the mouth closed. This technique is taught by physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and respiratory therapists to their patients to ease shortness of breath and to promote Deep breathing, also referred to as Abdominal or Diaphragmatic breathing.

This is a game and not a medical treatment, however, PLB can have positive effects in treating stress and anxiety related disorders and can also be used effectively during asthma attacks to slow your breathing down, reduce the work of breathing, and calm yourself.
