About Apollo 15 Moon Landing VR

Celebrating the 45 year anniversary of the Apollo 15 mission!
Use your phone and Google Cardboard to simulate the 1971 Apollo 15 Moon Landing.

Feel the rumble as the spacecraft descends to the Lunar surface.
Walk on the moon like Scott and Irvin did, and unpack and drive the Lunar Rover.

This App requires a Google Cardboard VR headset, and a modern, powerful smartphone.
Does not require a button.
Best experienced with headphones.
If you notice the application is running slow, select the "half resolution" option in the main menu.

Although this application aims to recreate a realistic impression of the Apollo 15 moon landing, using NASA data and footage, some liberties have been taken to fit the mission into a minutes-long VR demo.

My earliest memory as a child is sitting in front of our little black and white TV, watching the Apollo 15 mission, and playing with my Tang moon buggy toy, wishing I was really there. I know I'll never get to drive a real moon buggy, but this gives me the closest possible analog. Thank you so much for a truly amazing app. You've made the 5 year old kid that lives inside me very happy.

Good job for virtual moon world. Gives you a great perspective on the surface and the view. Driving the rover is awesome. Going over the surface is up and down hills is great. I wish you could zoom in closer to see the Earth or things in the distance but the real astronauts didn't have a way to do this so it's all good. I can only see this kind of 3D reality world's getting better.

An excellent subject for an introduction to the immersive nature of VR and very sympathetically crafted. This is the first android VR app I have considered worthy. Well done and I hope you continue to develop with such quality. One tiny thing I noted was the failure of the back key to take me back out of the app. Otherwise, excellent.

I'm not using the most powerful phone or headset (Moto g4 and generic cardboard headset) but I think this app is amazing. You truly get immersed for minutes and taken in by the scenery. Utter amazement looking up at the lunar lander... Great work!

by T####:

Wow! Did not know what to expect but this is so wonderful! Good sense of 3D depth and a polished experience. The closest thing you will get to experience being on the moon. Thank you devs! I hope you continue to polish this app and make it even better please.

Simply amazing!! Best VR app... Never got this much enjoyment out of a demo before now. A suggestion. Do one of Apollo 11 so i can relive one of the most memorable events of my childhood. One more time.. Great job guys. :)

It's a short demo but my oh my it delivers. Beautiful scenery, great use of VR and you get to drive a moon rover! Made me a bit queasy but I'm not even going to knock off a point for that!

'Magnificent desolation'... A joy deploying the LR. - I'd wondered how that was done - 'Outstanding!'. I loved driving into the deep craters and the way the regolith thrown up fell in the 1/6th gravity - 'How about that!'. Great VR all round, totally immersing... but I eventually suffocated alone sitting in the rover because the exit didn't work !

I loved the whole demo . Its winter right now where im from so its cold and playing this with the cold weather made it more real like . I would love to drive over mountain on the full version if it ever comes out ..I felt lonely and really missed earth

I don't ever write reviews, but I made an exception for this one. This is just incredible. I'm not sure how else to put it. Talk about a way to experience something only a few have done or ever will. It's simple, but it really puts in perspective just how far those men went and what an unbelievable feat that was. If you're looking for something that is both exciting and sobering, you've found it.

For VR games I've played, this ticked all the boxes. Only thing I wish it went longer. Steering was working great. This should be the standards for all VR games

Obviously cardboard VR is very limited but this really shows what you can do with s cell phone and some stiff paper

F70%
by F####:

Not only dose it have you looking at earth half the time but it puts you in the rover and let's you build and control it to a certain extent but other than that the facts at the end are a amazing!!

W70%
by W####:

This is the best VR app I've seen so far. It puts the technology to good use and ran well on my phone. It's a bit short, but very immersive.

Pretty much like the scenario written by NASA (Never A Straight Answer), during the Apollo program... If you think NASA went to the moon with the equipment they showed us (rockets, the LEM, the suits they wore etc), just think of the materials that they used to built the said equipment, and then think of the Van Allen Belt (and the ~10 solar flares from our sun, every 24 hours period) During the Tchernobyl disaster, they called NASA to borrow their suits.... Their answer? No, not a good idea... Those suits are useless against radiations... For once, NASA were truthful ! I won't even talk about Operation Paperclip

Not only are the graphics, sound, animation etc. well done, but the user interface was excellent -- very easy to understand and use, and very comfortable. The graceful launch and exit were appreciated! (Personally I'd rather be back in the lander for the end, but it was very clear what was going on.) This app would also make a great demo to show other developers how to do VR UI.

Idiotic made. 2small windows retardedly spins around to piss you off the most topped off with inversed up/down movement. Absolutely idiotic.

Beautiful.... Though after a while it just keeps going around

Fantastic use of VR. Made me wonder about the possibilities aside from games. Now I want to visit the Pyramids in ancient times, the Acropolis, the Titanic...

An absolute cracker of a VR experience! Highly recommended! Works very nicely on a OnePlus One phone (so should be good on anything with equivalent specs. I use a Virtoba Headset which has a bigger field of view than standard cardboard. Really very immersive. Nice use of NASA audio as well. A couple of suggestions - the pointer sometimes seemed to move focal distance? something in the models perhaps? Also some astronaut breathing and suit sounds would really add massively to the overall experience. This is a lovely piece of work that really shows what you can do with Cardboard. Hope the author is going to add to this if he gets the time!

Starts a bit slow, but gets quite good as soon as you start driving around. Could have better resolution.

Made me fall over my coffee table....stupid lunar rover!

It's lovely, but I could only get it to work with a Cardboard viewer. Couldn't make it work on Daydream. Please make it work on Daydream!

T70%

Eventhough the graphics could have improved a little.. but yes this is one of the best vr experiences about a historical event

T70%

Mind blown. Never thought I could be so close to walk on the moon.

After having the cardboard version of cardboard I finally got a nice VR set. This app is amazing. I'm not sure why they don't give you more time on the rover, but it is worth a download.
