About Windward

*** NOTE: Requires a high-performance device, such as NVIDIA SHIELD. Run the Windward: Performance Test (free app) to check your device's performance before buying the game.

Designed from the start to be a fully procedural co-op game, Windward can be played by yourself, but it truly comes alive when playing with friends. Start by generating a procedural world that will be unique to you, design your own custom faction then sail forward fighting pirates, trading with towns, doing quests or simply exploring -- it's up to you how you want to play.

As you sail about you will find resources you can make use of, upgrades for your ship, new towns that will ask your assistance, and as you get farther out from the starting area -- various pirates that will attempt to take what's rightfully yours. Combat experience will let you unlock new talents and abilities to make that particular line of work easier.

As you take up consignments with towns and fulfill their production shortages, the towns will grow, offering more quests, more resources and better items. As the towns continue to grow they will offer you a choice to upgrade your ship itself. Would you prefer a fast Schooner to explore the world, or a heavy Galleon that's able to take up 5 consignments at once? Or perhaps a massive Ship of the Line to take the fight with the pirates to their heartlands?

As you explore the world and get farther away from your starting area, the game will become progressively more difficult -- but so will the rewards. Throughout all of this you can expect the pirates to put up a fair fight, as the AI is bound by the same rules as the player: they have sight, and must explore the map before they can know what's there.

Speaking of AI, build a fearsome reputation and the AI will respect you, even fear you -- avoiding you if at all possible. Some friendly AI will even choose to follow you and assist you in your own adventures.

And so, on the topic of adventures -- ready to have yours?

The graphics are fantastic. My only suggestion would be a more user friendly menu and/or a brief tutorial. Also, this may be because my game will only play on ultra graphic settings, but why are the menu icons so tiny? It's difficult to tap the right option.

This is a port of a PC game and it shows. Tiny icons and a rough interface can lead to a frustrating experience. Disregarding that, the game is fairly shallow and grindy. The combat and questing is pretty fun, but feels quite hollow.

Great. Didn't see the performance test until after I bought the game. Getting 1-2fps on my nexus 5x. Can I get a refund??

I purchased this game so I can play it online, just to find out that there are no servers avaliable at all. Refunding it :(

UNPLAYABLE on Samsung Galaxy S7. I would like a refund, however, this game is great on the PC and I encourage everyone to try it there.

Game works great on Galaxy Tab S2. I play on Steam as well and would be brilliant if I could sync my progress across the two platforms. Also, please let us rename factions so that we can give them the English/French/Spanish/Dutch designations? Thanks!

As many before me pointed out this is a very good game. The controls are a bit problematic though. For example I have to push and hold the tiny icon for the skill description to see the description right below my finger. This gui was clearly made for the pc. At least give us an option to scale it!

Best cool game

Controls are too fiddly to easily select. Takes about 4 attempts to select broadside and other controls are hit and miss. If buttons were larger(or even whole icon actually click able not just bottom 2mm) would be amazing. You need a stylus really. I have a note 4 and tried it on Xperia z4 and for some reason low graphics settings are very jerky. Can solve this by putting it on high or turning shadows on but frame rate is dropping to 25 or so.

Asked for the android update got it the next day. Back to my original rating keep it up!

When graphics is set to low the screen is flickering all the time. The left menu is too small and when the new window opens it flickers until is open. Navigation is jurky and jumpy. Changing graphics to high fixes the flickering. Since low graphics is the default on new install the player can't enjoy the game until the graphics is changed to at least high

Unfortunately the pc release gets frequent updates which breaks compatibility with the mobile release. Perhaps the server client could be configured to support both the latest releases from mobile and computer?

Developer made a direct port from the PC, but did nothing to improve the UI for Android. Icons are tiny, near impossible to hold tap over towns at map window for information. Using abilities is very clunky.. potential, but a lot of improvements needed.. as it is, until these simple UI improvements can be made, best to avoid this game. Wish I could get a refund.

This game is gorgeous on the Nvidia Shield K1 tablet. I am able to run the game with all of the highest graphics settings with no issues whatsoever (aside from the tablet getting a bit warm, which is to be expected). The gameplay itself is highly addictive. I'd never played this game before, so being immediately thrown into all the startup options with no explanation was a bit confusing (I ended up starting a whole new game set up differently after reading an online tutorial/walkthrough), but now I'm having a blast. The only big thing I'd change is the fact that, to my knowledge, there's no way to manage many of the "right click" options using a controller. Things like seeing on the map which cities buy or need what, hiring or bribing AI ships, etc. This needs to be added to the controller abilities to make the port complete. Still, a very solid, enjoyable game. Kudos to the devs for bringing it to Android!

I bought this to play on my shield TV. The interface is terrible for non touch controls and the text is so small it's unreadable. Pass on this one if you are playing on Android TV.

Excellent game. In a sea full of in-app bullshit which is the play store, this is easily one of the best Android games ever developed, from graphics to gameplay. All of that without in-app purchases. Buy it if your device can handle it. Played on a Galaxy S6

Execllent co-op game, when combined with a keyboard and mouse: Shield TV, Remix Mini, etc. Not so fun on a touchscreen.

Thanks for matching the Steam sale price! I'd been looking for this game to go on sale for quite a while now.. One of the very few Shield TV compatible with online multiplayer I'm aware of.

This is the perfect isometric privateer/wood sailing ship game. I won't even call it a clone of Sid Meier's Pirates...more like a modern homage. Haven't had any real problems other than some graphics related slow-down. I only give 4 stars because the performance test doesn't accurately depict the processing power needed during said battles. But I will say, I can't believe a Note 4 is unplayable while my LG GPad powers through even the med-large battles. Now all we need is a remake/port of Age of Sail!

...it worked fine on my note 4...and it worked fine on low graphics no shadows ....UNTIL. .....you guessed it...the battle ....it's unplayable when you're in battle..it lags to the point that I can't even turn the boat left or right...it just stands there until I explode ....hope you can fix this because I really like the game

No controller support after update for Nvidia Shield Console. Just bought the game and 2 days later this happens. Please fix, cannot get refund

I play this on steam and I have to say it is a lot easier to play on a computer than a phone or tablet. Instead of a tap and drag system for movement, is there a way to implement an onscreen "analog" stick? Also, the inventory system is really hard to use on mobile as the icons are really small and there is no good way to compare stats of what is equipped with what is in the inventory. Perhaps you could make the UI full screen and less rows for mobile? The game itself is simple and fun. Worth a shot.

I've been playing windward on pc since alpha and it's been a great game. This android conversion is very well done and runs very nicely on my galaxy tab s 8.4 Oh and for the record, I have: Graphics set to Ultra. Shadows off (this makes a big difference) Desktop water turned off (also makes a big difference) I was in a combat with 4 other ships and no appreciable drop in framerates.

A great callback to the Sid Meier’s Pirates! game from years prior. With some of the boring dancing/sword fighting removed and the ship to ship combat sped up as well as automated a bit more which is a mixed blessing/curse, the game looks great on my LG G3 as well as Shield TV though I do find the performance on the Shield TV oddly lacking compared to the G3 considering the Shield TV has a much faster SoC. I assume that will be updated down the line. Will probably pick the game up on Steam or GoG soon as well, maybe when it's on sale. Just saw that it requires Android 5.0 so I will have to try it on my Shield Portable/Tegra Note once I upgrade those to 5.X as well.

I know playing this on Nexus 5 probably not the best way to play... Game gets laggy with alot of things going on but still bearable. The UI make bigger button doesn't do anything, still tiny. Otherwise 5 stars I would rate.
