About Bloxel
Bloxel is a simple cognitive puzzle game aimed at individuals, both young and old, with PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities) and other neurodevelopmental disorders. Bloxel can be used in both personal and academic capacities. The aim of the game is to recreate the corresponding pattern on the right side of the screen by touching each box/voxel to change its color. Once the correct pattern is created, the game will progress to the next pattern, which gradually increases in difficulty.
*INTUITIVE TAILOR MADE DESIGN*
At its core, Bloxel is deeply rooted in cognitive science in order for us to tailor-make the app towards individuals with PMLD. Unlike other puzzle games, Bloxel has no time limit or a set amount of 'lives'. This allows for players to play the game at their own learning pace. This is particularly helpful for individuals with slower cognitive processing speeds/automaticity. The game also features 2 colours (white and cyan) with a grayscale background (no background music) to provide a distraction free environment for players with difficulties in focusing attention.
*SKILLS INVOLVED*
The outcome of the game is to help individuals refine their pattern recognition, visual perception, motor control, attention, short term memory, and automaticity abilities.
