During the Roman Empire, one of the most famous Strategy Board Games played was the Nine Men's Morris.

(Align It Board Game) Nine Men's Morris (9 Men's Morris) was one the most famous strategy Board Game played during Roman Empire times. The game is played between two players. The game is known by many names, some of them being Mill, Mills, The Mill Game, Merels, Merrills, Merelles, Marelles, Morelles and Ninepenny Marl in English.

If you have those checkerboards you shouldn't be surprised to see this game printed on the back of it, with a different name know as Cowboy Checkers.

The game has three famous variants known as Six Men's Morris, Nine Mens Morris and Twelve Men's Morris. We have implemented Nine Men's Morris and Twelve Men's Morris very similar to Morabaraba.

Morabaraba - a Twelve Men's Morris variant

Morabaraba is a traditional two-player strategy board game played in South Africa, Botswana and Lesotho. The game is also known as Mlabalaba, Mmela (in Setswana), Muravava, Umlabalaba. The game is similar to Twelve Men's Morris, a variation on the Roman board game Nine Men's Morris.

Morris variants exist in many parts of the world; e.g. India (Char Bhar), Ghana (Achi), Kenya (Shisimia), Somalia (Shax), Zimbabwe (Tsoro Yemutwelve), the Philippines (Tapatan) and Mongolia (Gurgaldaj). It's also know as mancala game of Moruba (i.e. rows of cupules).

Morabaraba is today most popular amongst rural African youth in southern Africa. In South Africa it is also commonly known by the Xhosa form of the name Umlabalaba.

Morabaraba is accessible and easy to learn, and games can be played quickly, but the strategic and tactical aspects of the game run deep. There are three main phases to the game:

Luk Tsut K'i ("Six Man Chess") in Canton and Tapatan in the Philippines, Fangqi is played on a seven-by-seven grid, it is played in northwest China and Xinjiang, Tic-tac-toe uses a three-by-three board, on which players place pieces (or make marks) in turn until one player wins by forming an orthogonal or diagonal line or until the board is full and the game is drawn, Malom, Hungarian variant, Brwanjeya and DoubleMill
