En este año de 2014 se cumplen cien años del debut de la primera máquina que jugaba al ajedrez, fue diseñada y construida por Leonardo Torres Quevedo en el año 1912 y presentada en sociedad en la Feria de Paris de 1914.
El Ajedrecista, como se la conoce, es la primera máquina que jugó al ajedrez, aunque sólo fuese el final de rey y torre contra rey. Con anterioridad, Von Kempelen paseo por Europa una “máquina” que jugaba bastante bien al ajedrez, pero quien realmente jugaba era una persona oculta en su interior.
Este autómata conduce las piezas blancas (rey y torre) y siempre consigue dar jaque mate, dentro de la regla de los 50 movimientos, sea cual sea el juego del rey negro. Hoy el Ajedrecista está prácticamente olvidado pero en su momento fue un fenómeno de relevancia mundial y todos los “grandes” del desarrollo computacional, como Alan Turing o Claude E. Shannon, han reconocido su importancia.
Esta aplicación simula dicho autómata aplicando las mismas reglas empleadas por Leonardo Torres Quevedo.
Se puede definir la posición de partida.
Se pueden salvar las partidas en formato PGN. Estás se guardan el la carpeta TorresQuevedo de la memoria externa del dispositivo.
