The enemies all swarm directly at your base, which you must protect. The open nature makes it simple to understand but tough to beat. With a huge number of different possible tactics each replay is a bit different.

Really enjoyed this, it's a fresh take on tower defense. You don't gather currrency to build towers or upgrades -- instead, you set your space forge or whatever on which thing you want to build and it cranks them out. I just barely scraped through the Normal mode, which is basically a tutorial. Am looking forward to spending some time on harder modes and variants! I also appreciated the cheap cost of removing ads and the lack of pay2win features. More games should be built like this.
