About Cycles: Game 1

CYCLES is a sequence of two learning games which have been proven to provide strong and persistent training in the recognition, discrimination, and mitigation of six cognitive biases:
• Confirmation Bias
• Fundamental Attribution Bias
• Bias Blind Spot
• Representativeness Bias
• Projection Bias
• Anchoring Bias

These bias impact decision making, especially when faced with complex problems and ambiguous information such as that faced in business, health care, and emergency response. By learning to identify and counteract subconscious thought patterns, individuals who work in high risk professions will gain a toolbox that will transform their decision making.

The CYCLES games were developed with funding provided by the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) and pursuant to Air Force Research Laboratory. It has been has rigorously tested against other games and against a video teaching the same material. The results showed that not only did the game outperform other games and video at the post test, the 8 week post-test showed even higher impact as trainees continued to reflect on their game experience.

Cycles won GOLD at the 2015 International Serious Play Awards Competition in the Government/Military category.
