Knife Steel Composition Chart for Android
I'm assuming this is the app Cedric and Ada use. I installed for 2 reasons. 1: this is an extensive database and the person who develop it deserves a medal. And 2, that intro blurb on Google Play is absolute honest Gold. Update: Still love this app. A must for anyone interested in knives and the steels used in making knives.
This is the most extensive dictionary for alloys out there. Especially the functionality for unfamiliar users. I have, personally, asked my superiors to approve this app for our R&D use in everyday work. So far it has been accurate. EXCELLENT job at providing detailed information.
Great app reads like alot of the research is done from one point of view but not in a bad way. still some steels the app doesn't cover ( nitro v and pm v11 off the top of my but can't expect world) the search engine doesn't like spacing sometimes but im not sure if it right or wrong as most the info i have is off forums anyway
I don't usually rate apps but this one is real good. I'm into knives and every steel I've looked up is there. Good Job!
Honestly this app is superb. Very well thought out and easy to use. Gives quick and easy comparisons of different alloys and ready at hand. Not to sound like a nerd but I have spent ages looking through this and comparing the different steels. Massive thank you to the developers.
Very practical, when I bump into a steel I'm not familiar with, I simply look it up with this app. Would be nice to have some graphs of the hardening properties but maybe that is too much to ask. I recomend this app for every knife maker and knife enthusiast.
Saves me so much time looking up steel. Just a thought but having an option to know the heat treatment would help me so much. Found this app from watching YouTube Dutch Bush craft knives. They the app.
This is an excellent app. One thing that could make it more efficient is to be able to search different steels then click to compare. Without having to scroll through to compare multiple steels.
I constantly use this app as a go-to when i am unsure about a steel on a knife i might be interested in purchasing. It is a great help to me.
Brilliant app, I use it very often and have learned a great deal. Haven't come across any other app like it. Keep up the great work
I think this is an AWESOME App-best I've ever seen of It's kind. I'd like 1 item added: how well THIS steel takes temper (And a 1 digit or char flag to be used to show if THIS steel SHOULD or SHOULDN'T be tempered. The size of digit or char obviously to shows desirability of use. (I'm a relative novice compared to most of you all)! but have been doing blades for real for 50 years ???? ! Thanx, LesB
I'm a knife enthusiast, not a maker, but I still really like this app, it's one of the apps I use most often.
This is a good reference source for any questions I may develop about the quality of different knife steels, I always check here first before buying my knives, just to be sure I'm not buying junk. Great app to have! With the search feature I input the name of the steel, e.g., S30V, and bam, I have all the info I need. Love it.
For a bladesmith, being able to easily cross reference steel types with an app is great. I use this quite a bit when selecting steel for projects. Thank you.
great way to quickly reference composition of hundreds of steels. Some don't have all element percentages but most do. Definitely recommend.
Very good resource, I also really like how I can compare chemical compositions of multiple steels on a single bar graph. In my opinion, a knife enthusiast should at least have some understanding of metallurgy and this app really helps.
After extensive use of this app i have found this app to be highly useful. The best part for me is to cross reference steels with same composition but made by different companies and thus, different names. Thank you for making this app.
I use this app every day to check if knives i am interested in are made of good steel or not. Some of the descriptions leave a little to be desired or require further research but overall this app is fantastic.
For knife knuts, this app is a godsend. Great info on alloys, updates regularly, runs smoothly, and cross references alloys fairly accurately. A nice resource that I use frequently, more so than I thought I would.
If you like knives this will keep you from spending money on junk steel knives. An awesome app for knife people!
Haven't seen all app has to offer ,so far awesome
Very thorough! Never even knew there were so many steels. Love it. Saves a lot of time not having to google search each one.
App seems good. But it be much better if you xan add maximum for impurities. Tolerances may also strengthen this app. Overall very good
Very useful, looks like a lot of work and research went in making it. Must have for all blade makers and any steel working folk
I like very useful, but not very self intuitive, it would also sound more professional if it didn't say "I."
This app has the largest colletion of steel types all together that I know of. The charts with the amounts of other elements in each steel and discription is awesome when learning about each steel.
Tells me what I need to no
Great app...very informative! Would love to see some updates on some steels like Z-Wear PM.
Very thorough information on moats steels. Not everyone has a description but they do list everything in the alloy.
A really great reference app for understanding different knife metals
Tech details. If you want to invest money and see what kind of knife you're getting, this is the app for you.
This app is great for picking and choosing knife steels for knifes I'm thinking about getting. thanks
All the data u need + some more
Wow. This really is a huge amount of information thank you.
full whit all steels like it a lot
Big thanks to author of app for taking the time to put all this information together.
Easy to use and with lots of info. Some steel descriptions are a little short thiugh
Huge steels inventory and good description file on elements role in steel composition
Best reference of steels used in knives by manufacturers and custom knife makers all over the world. No ads and it is free, what else can you ask for? Appreciate this one man army doing its work. Had it for over a year now and recently the synced data was unreadable. If anyone is having trouble with sync/data update issues just uninstall and reinstall, now it works perfectly for me.

This seems to be the most readily available app for understanding basic principles of knife steel composition. It has an extensive list of steels, with a brief description and graphical charting of the chemical composition of each. You can also compare steels to each other. Very useful. I really wish it would be updated more frequently. Most information stays the same, even as new information comes out about various steels. Please include Nitro-V steel! A new and upcoming knife steel. Overall, great app. 5 stars for being the only one and doing a really good job with it.
