About Flexible Interval Timer

Flexible Interval Timer is a workout timer for interval cardio sessions. All existing free interval timers allow performing only simple workouts, where all rest and work times are equal, or use a complicated interface which makes creation of advanced routines extremely painful. Flexible Interval Timer gives the control over workouts back to you.

IMPORTANT: to work with this app you need to create and upload a text file on your phone (see the bottom of the description).

In addition to complete flexibility in workout planning, the following features are present:
★ play, pause, reset, skip
★ displaying of the current and the next activity
★ speaking activity names aloud (you need to setup a TTS engine in your phone's options)
★ interval end sound
★ routine end sound
★ calculation of total routine time
★ quick access to previously opened routines.

This interval timer is perfectly suitable for any type of interval cardio/strength fitness training: Crossfit, HIIT, tabata, running, etc.
If you train using some commercial program: P90X, Insanity, Ruthless, Rushfit or similar, know all exercises by heart, as well as trainer's jokes, turn off that video, create a file with the routine and feel the freedom of training with Flexible Interval Timer.
Furthermore, you can even use this timer for yoga and stretching.

To use Flexible Interval Timer you need to create a text (.txt) file and upload it on your phone using a cloud storage, Bluetooth, USB cable or any other method that is convenient to you.
The file format is very simple: on each line you simply write an activity name followed by duration in seconds. Example:
jog 30
rest 10
squats 60
Point the app to the file, and the rest will be taken care off.
Alternatively, you can create a routine file directly on your phone using any simple text editor app.

Internet permission is required for gathering of anonymous stats for further improvements.

As a programmer, I love stuff like this. All the data is in one (very simple) file I can edit and manage on my own computer. Pure and simple. And the TTS is freaking awesome. Such a great use of that. It wouldn't be hard to use this for other things too. Maybe even cooking! I tried a bunch of different interval timer thingies, with the hope of having something I can use my android watch for. However when I found this, I just ditched that effort because it's so much cooler than anything I've found. Having said that, I really hope android wear support gets added eventually. The TTS and simple interface would fit perfectly I think.

I like that intervals can be defined in a text file, but some editing in-App would be quicker. The interval sounds are choppy on my phone as well.

Simply brilliant interval timer. After trying 4 other, seemingly higher specified ones, this came out way ahead because of the unlimited flexibility offered by the simple text input. Using Coastline Text Editor I can do everything on my phone as well. The only thing I would love is a button to skip back to the beginning of the current interval instead of to the very start, ⏪ instead of, or as well as ⏮ please ☺

I tried 5 other interval timers over the course of 2 hours. The trouble I was having was customising for multiple different exercises with different times and rests. This app allows you to create your own program with different times. Simply save as a txt file in word or other program that allows for txt format. Follow the directions shown in the app, and then add the file in the app. I saved mine to google drive, then downloaded the file on my android phone, then uploaded the file from downloads. Remember to go in to settings and tick audio (the app will speak your next exercise), and apply a sound for the start of the next set, and end of the session. I used this in the gym yesterday, worked perfectly, never been so organised and pushed to the limit. Great app.

I'm using it to do stretches for the splits. It does exactly what it's supposed to do. I've tried other timer apps and they're super glitchy and hard to deal with. I can't recommend this highly enough

This appeals to my inner computer geek having to use .txt file. Allows me to create my own workout. I think could do with some in built beeps only down side I can think of.

C70%
by C####:

I love the ease of uploading my own workouts to those learned in boot camp. Just be sure to include rest breaks. Would be better if there was a buzzer ending each interval.

L70%
by L####:

Simplely make a txt file with your workout list and time in seconds ie pushup 30 save it somewhere you find it open it in the app Simple but works great

T70%
by T####:

It's actually much simpler to use than you might think looking at the picture for the app. Just create a text file with a workout and the time in seconds to create a perfectly customized plan for anything. I use it to start my morning going from reading, writing, and praying to working out and breathing. Thank you so much for this app. Ingenious!!

Z70%
by Z####:

Add a simple text editor to the app (shouldn't be too hard) and a simple file browser that opens the folder (created by the app) where the text files are stored, improve the UI make everything bigger, THEN this app would be perfect. Edit: integrating a progress bar and a logger would be great too.

Z70%
by Z####:

Has the flexibility I need but sounds play forever and you can't set it to auto repeat the cycle. For example: on 45s, active rest 30s, on 45s, rest 30s, on 45s, change station 60s and repeat 16 times. Only way is copy paste 16x. The notifications not ending is a killer though.

T70%
by T####:

Absolutely simple, easy and very customizable to my needs. If you are looking for alarms/beep after irregular customizable intervals, this is exactly what you need

A70%
by A####:

Finally I can create my own interval trainings without a terrible user interface. It takes seconds to create one since you do it on a text file. Every runner needs this.

Z70%
by Z####:

Thank you developer for simple and effective time keeper. Easy to use. I could do my pranayama after a long time with right time intervals...

A70%
by A####:

It sucks when you've been planking for two minutes because this app failed to say "rest" after one minute

Z70%
by Z####:

Simple, but brilliant! It's awesome to be able to customize different workouts exactly, easily and quickly the way I want it. All you need is a app that can create .txt files. And I love that you can pause it too.

F70%
by F####:

I like the flexibilty, but the voice over speaking and sounds are not loud enough to be heard overmu music. If there was a way to adjust volume control, I would be able to use this and love this.

Z70%
by Z####:

Great features: Customizable interval duration (in seconds), Customizable activity name, Sound after each interval, Sound after the whole routine, With speaking capability, Simple and effective, small-size app! Very cool! Thank you for this excellent app!

Z70%
by Z####:

I love this app. I can use it to create my own workouts and I love the way it reads out the names of the exercises like a prompt. It's cool how I can play music in the background and still hear it

Z70%
by Z####:

It would be even better if I could just type, ex.: "run 60 rest 60 x6" to repeat the sequence 6 times, otherwise, very flexible app

Z70%
by Z####:

Works great, early create a txt doc and upload it to the device then use this app to import it, and vuwala, it will read the text then start counting down. Thanks for this one!

I would like to be able to rewind to the start of the previous exercise, instead of only to the beginning of the routine.

I love i can write in what the intervals will be. All the other interval timers lacks that one basic important feature.

Only issue is the timer is off. Had watch, machine and this going. Watch and machine in sync this was 15 secs out by end of 20 min.

K70%
by K####:

Seems hard for use, but it is not at all!!! I loved its possibility to speak aloud the exercise names, while the phone is in power save mode. Great!!! I tryed almost 50 or more different timers (installed and uninstalled after a while). This one became my favorite!! The third place (there is not second place at this moment) took "Vijnana Yoga Timer", but it stops to pronounce the exercise names at the 2nd cycle, and can work only while the phone is switched on. Use "WPS Office" to create your .txt file/s.

Look so hard to find a decent, interval trainer, all of them failed, in comparison
