Colinda este un cîntec popular care se cînta de obicei în ajun de Craciun si de Anul nou, în general, însotit de diverse datini populare.
Colindele sunt cântece traditionale interpretate de copii, de flacai sau de adulti cu prilejul sarbatorilor de iarna: „Corinduta nu-i mai multa, / Sa traiasca cine-asculta” (Calendar 1980).
Manifestari si cântece rituale perpetuate din epoca imperiala romana pâna în zilele noastre si raspândite la mai multe popoare din Europa. Varianta corinda se utilizeaza doar în Apuseni si Maramures.
Pentru corinda: din lat. calendae („primele zile ale fiecarei luni”). Pentru colinda: din sl. kolenda, der. din lat. calendae.
