Por 248 años la versión Reina-Valera no fue revisada en su totalidad. En 1708 y 1831 el Nuevo Testamento fue revisado, pero no fue sino hasta 1850 que se hizo una revisión completa. Este trabajo fue realizado por la Sociedad Bíblica Americana. Durante la última mitad del siglo XIX la Reina-Valera pasó por varias revisiones. La revisión de 1909 fue realizada por la Sociedad Bíblica Británica y Extranjera y es la que predominó en las iglesias evangélicas por 51 años. La Sociedad Bíblica Trinitaria está trabajando en un proyecto de revisión de la Reina-Valera versión 1909 (RV1909). El objetivo es aplicar, hasta donde sea posible, las estructuras de las oraciones y el vocabulario original empleados por Reina y Valera, pero aceptando las normas ortográficas actuales de la Real Academia Española y desechando aquellas palabras que han cambiado de significado. También se evita vincular a la Reina-Valera versión 1909 con las características particulares y lenguajes de otras traducciones.
