Leo's Wikipedia Reader for Android
You have to manually download Wiki dumps and convert them using the Windows tool (works in Linux with Wine), which is this app's curse AND excellency. It's more work, but you can always have the latest version of the dump. To use wikiconvert.exe, you must first unpack the xml file from the bz2 dump. Put it somewhere together with the exe and create a new folder named eg. "nowiki". Navigate there with a command line, type "wikiconvert.exe -onowikinowiki -n". Move nowiki folder to SD card root.
When i want to start the app it is not starting just crashes immediately. I downloaded & converted the English Wikipedia & now this app is not opening. Help me guys i am using Android 4.0 ICS
While it is evident that the author has put in significant effort into this, and has also made it open source, the app is a complete failure because nothing about it works. It simply hasn't been maintained. I emailed the author twice, and did not hear back either. It seems this is abandoned. The problems I observed are: (1) The app doesn't start - it tries to start but then terminates unexpectedly. I have a Droid 2 Global. (2) The converter wikiconvert.exe crashed while processing enwiki-20120104-pages-articles.xml. It got as far as writing enwiki-20120104-pages-articles_18.lwk but while writing this file, it crashed. What a disappointment. If the author fixes these issues in the future, I can edit my review.
I needed an offline copy of wikipedia for study while away from broadband. I was using Wikidroyd - which is also great and slightly better formatted, but their wiki files are 2 years old which is useless if you are studying current affairs. With this software you can create an up to date local copy of wikipedia from the latest downloaded files on your PC and then move it to your android phone and it just works. I can't thank the developers enough for this. I could find no other software that provided this ability to have the most up to date files. It is a lifesaver.
It works well so far- very fast. But text is so tiny that I can't read it. Perhaps a setting to change fonts...?
