About CGE Planning Tools
This app is provided by Center for Global Education at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) for student pre-departure and while abroad planning to help avoid and respond to a health or safety issue. While most students experience a safe and healthy time abroad, some are forced to deal with minor crises like pick–pockets, petty theft, or a minor illness or injury. In an unfamiliar environment with communication and cultural barriers, a minor crisis may be more difficult to handle. Some students may encounter a major emergency while abroad, such as a serious illness or injury, traffic accident, natural disaster, or violent crime. Get feedback from your campus study abroad office and use the Emergency Card, Personal Emergency Action Plan, and Emergency Action Plan Steps, to practice your emergency response when you first arrive abroad so that you are prepared to help yourself and others!
It includes a background on student alcohol awareness issues as well as a blood alcohol content (BAC) chart for men and women. Watching the video and reviewing this information are good ways to start planning for a safe and rewarding study abroad experience.
Learn translations of basic words and phrases that highlight health and safety issues from English to other languages including translations with images that can help you in the case of a health or safety challenge. They may help you during your travel and stay in the country of your choice!
