About Worcester Wave

Worcester Wave – smart control for heating and hot water

The Wave is a smart, internet-connected programmable control for central heating
and hot water which can be operated using this app.

After installation this app can also be used in demonstration mode, without access to the internet, a Wave controller or a Worcester Greenstar boiler, to showcase the extensive features and simplicity of use.

Simple to use

The Wave’s intuitive and modern design ensures it is very simple to operate using either its in-built touchscreen or the app.

• Supplied with a pre-set programme that can then be easily modified to suit your requirements.

• The Wave features a ‘holiday programme’, requiring just a start and finish date.

• An installation and operating manual is provided with each control and there are links to number of helpful videos within this app that provide further details on specific functions.

Simply smarter

The Wave’s innovative programming enables it to have an ‘intelligent conversation’ with the boiler enabling energy efficiency features including:

• Load and weather compensation which allows the boiler to adapt its operation, to achieve optimum efficiency, whist still maintaining the level of heating comfort required. This can help reduce fuel bills.

• Unlike most other smart heating controls, the Wave can also programme the hot water settings, providing additional energy savings and comfort.

• Charts of heating and hot water usage so the homeowner can easily identify where potential savings could be made.

Want a Worcester Wave connected to control your heating?

To take smarter control of your heating, first check if your Worcester, Bosch Group Greenstar boiler is compatible with the Wave by visiting worcester-bosch.co.uk/wave

To purchase a Wave contact a heating engineer, and a list of Worcester accredited heating engineers can be found at worcester-bosch.co.uk/findaninstaller or using the Worcester, Bosch Group app.

The heating engineer can install the Wave. It only requires a 2-core wire connection between the control and the boiler; all other connections are via the Wi-Fi network.

What are users saying about Worcester Wave

They've still not fixed the 'bug' in the scheduler to allow you to set the heating on until midnight. Ive seen more than one user set their sleep period to 0000 expecting it to deactivate the heating and only to find it running all night because it brings the sleep period from the end of the day to the start of the day. User interface design classes anyone?

I still have had no problems with the way the app works. Disappointed to only have two timers still. The usage graph is great. More graphs please. I would still like to see a boost button.

Basic at best. No support from Bosch in nearly a year on this app. Very disappointed. Should have stuck with hive. I would recommend not to buy a wave thermostat and choose a better competitor even if you loose the extra 2 years on your boiler warranty.

C70%
by C####:

Installed recent update and it would not connect to my Wave. Had to reset Wave and reconnect to WiFi. Only took 5 mins. After that everything OK. Developers, in the next update please allow customers to specify their own programme name. Programme 1 and Programme 2 are not very meaningful.

I've installed the wave on my Samsung and I'm watching the official learning guide on YouTube and the app looks different. I have no idea how to set the temperature when the boiler is on or how to set up a programme for more than sleep and wake as the options aren't the same. I have to use my boiler manually until I work out how to use the app which means I'm freezing in the mornings now!

C70%
by C####:

** The UK version doesn't show the system pressure like the (Nefit Easy) European version ** No consistency between appearance of screens. An active Android WIDGET with boiler status and current temperature option needed. Email notifications from Wave to phone/PC.... simple one press (boost button ) turn boiler on/off for 10, 20, 30 minutes etc...So much more is possible at the moment it's DUMB not smart..

This update supposedly improved home presence detection, but I checked in from work once I knew the house was empty and it still thinks I'm in! Despite me also opening the app on my way to work so it was definitely updated!

Samsung s7 - Home presence detection has suddenly become unreliable. Please investigate!

Y70%
by Y####:

No IFTTT, no Alexia, no Google home, no 1 hour boost, no advance, no interface, no smart home interoperability. Otherwise a fine standalone product which ignores the rest of the universe. I have owned wave for 9 months.

C70%
by C####:

I have set and saved the day time temperature several times, yet it keeps going back to the previous temperature. Home presence function not reliable.

C70%
by C####:

Doesn't offer the features or integration of alternatives, such as nest, hive or tado. Where's the IFTTT or Alexa integration?

C70%
by C####:

Would not recommend to anyone. Increased my bills. Read small print on weather comp page. Expensive joke.

C70%
by C####:

Very poor display effects and information. Many things need improvements, it's a shame to leave app at this stage with such of big potential. Why only 2 programs available and no name change allowed??

C70%
by C####:

So much potential wasted, started off great but it seems they have given up on it. No development anymore, no integration with Alexa, IFTTT etc puts it further behind the competition. If I was buying again if switch to Hive.

Q70%
by Q####:

This app asks for access to the camera. Can the company say why, or remove this invasion of privacy

C70%
by C####:

You need to add more functionality! Check out the other devices out there... Hive, Nest etc. No reason why at least half those functions couldn't easily be added!... Do some research and bring the app up to date!

C70%
by C####:

Home Present why is the On/Off selection on the next level down? How do you add an additional smartphone? By turning on Home Present it reverts back to the default program and not your own custom program how weird is that? Been using App for 12 months now.

C70%
by C####:

Was working fine. Got the email about an update so I updated the app and now it wont connect to my boiler

C70%
by C####:

Asks me to submit all the information for the warranty every time I access the app. Only takes a couple of minutes, but it's EVERY time! Despite having been sent a million times before. Also does seem to have been forgotten as the integration is really poor.

C70%
by C####:

Gets it wrong at least once a week

C70%
by C####:

4 stars because the app is a little clunky but overall a good app!!

C70%
by C####:

Easy to use, great when not at home and you realise no hot water for baths or showers , highly recommend.

C70%
by C####:

This app nor the £200 + thermostat itself does not feature a boost button feature for the heating. Other than that its OK.

C70%
by C####:

Home presence detection does not work. It always thinks I'm at home when I'm 10 miles away at work. App has location and data permission.

C70%
by C####:

Would like to see heating water flow temperature when using weather compensation and system water pressure.

Changed to new Worcester boiler and wanted smarter controls rather than the usual primative ones. Wave is not without its flaws but it's still brilliant. Boiler costs a fortune so why not spend a little on decent controls. We found quite a few older school plumbers did not understand this system or want to. So get someone who does.

R70%

Its not perfect. Missing some basic features. 1. Simple boiler on or off button willbe really useful. 2. Manual settings doesnt work properly. when my room temp is 21 and my desired temp is set to 23, sometime it still doesnt start the boiler. Sometime it starts the boiler but it stop before reaching desire temp.

W70%
by W####:

Lets start with home presence detection. Why is there not an option to let the temperature drop below target until someone is detected close to home. Rather than overriding the already defined temperature settings when someone is detected. Just cant see the use case for the current feature unless you want your home at the same temp always when home.

I have had no problems with the way the app works. It is easy to programme the two different timers and switch between them. More programmes are needed though. The usage graph is great. More graphs please. I would also really like to see a boost button. The rest is brilliant.

This app need a lot of work before being of an acceptable quality. Login takes a bit too long but it is not too bad, some of the options are not very intuitive and takes a bit to get used on where to find them, graphics are definitely not the standard android that we are used to. Most annoying bug is that I need to open the app for that to update my position (even after being home for 14 hours). It notifies a lot of issues with the temperature setpoint, not sure what to do with that.

W70%
by W####:

Mostly ok, but the wave function where you approach and the sensor turns the display on the wall on, does not work. Would like to see a boost button and the ability to have more than 2 custom programs, eg one for each of the 4 seasons would be nice.

V70%
by V####:

Pretty decent as it is, could do with some extra features as mentioned by other users (and the question answered over whether I can add a local weather compensation module or not), but what's there seems to work just fine and is already rather more comprehensive than any heating control I've used before. Commands issued over the internet take barely any more time to take effect at the boiler than those entered directly on the thermostat (about 5-10 seconds!). Even just the ability to turn the heat off if you've forgotten to cancel a manual boost before heading out, or put it on a half hour early in an unexpected cold snap is super useful. The system as a whole has a few niggles, like the water temperature setting being apparently completely meaningless (it just blasts at maximum regardless) and the preheat seeming to trigger when it shouldn't, but that's nothing to do with the phone app itself, and versus the old ducted-air gas heater & electric hot water I had before it's hard to complain with a straight face. Desktop app or direct APK download would be nice too. 4 stars for now as there's room for improvement & expansion but no actual bugs - will happily regrade to 5 if/when...

This is a great idea. The app is simple to use and makes heating the house far more cost effective. Get one.

S70%

Great app, however the controls are missing a manual boost button for one of two hours, instead you have to switch to manual mode and increase the temperature, but then chances are you forget about it.

Had the wave fitted at the same time as my Greenstar CDi Compact on 11/03/16 and both working perfectly as expected. The app to support both is also excellent with no issues. My wife and I both use android (Sony Z2 and Samsung S4 with no trouble at all). Great bit of kit.
