National Trust - Days Out App for Android
It's good but someone's been too clever with the start screen, which is rubbish. Tinder users may realise that they have to swipe right but the rest of us are left tapping, scrolling, etc to no avail. Please can we have a start screen that gets the user straight into the app?
Needs a way to sign in so that saved locations can be taken to another device. Also, a major issue, I found its cache was at 450MB which is far to huge. It's not handling its storage properly.
Quite useful, but why is it necessary to have Location services on, when you just want to browse? Should also have the ability for showing your membership card and have limited usability for non Members. Direct links to Google maps would also be handy.
Absolutely useless, does nothing apart from show a start screen which talks about a compass. I hoped this would be better than the arcane guide book but no !!!
I've just come back to Android/Google, sinse 2015 & the app is great. A lot more responsive & a lot more info to hand. Keep up the good work. ????
Great to find interesting places to visit. Map function is very intuitive. However, doesn't sync with the website and def needs a way to sync favourites across devices. With that I'd change my rating to 5 stars.
It would be good be able to add your home post code and include driving time /driving distance or allow to filter by 'with an hour's drive' for example. Also how long people tend to spend on average which can usually be found on Google. Don't know how easy it is to link to that data.
A very well designed app and does what it does beautifully. Unfortunately the app is missing a lot of features which would make it much more useful. There is no facility to save marked places online or associate them to your account- there's little point keeping a list of visited properties if that's all lost each time you change device. Virtual membership cards should also be a feature - would have no issue showing photo ID alongside it but would mean one less card to carry.
Same problem as reported by Trevor Pilling. Doesn't get beyond the start page.
Useful app, however would be better if you could filter out locations that are closed. As just searched for places to visit only to find out they're all closed for the winter
Just love it. Really easy to use. I already have lots in my "place I want to visit" list.
Please provide a sync function with NT account. It's annoying to have to re-enter favourites. Thank you
I can't find the option to log on, which would bring up my membership details. I already have too many plastic cards to carry about so this would be an enormous boon.
Just installed and looks a great addition to the standard NT guides. I look forward to using it when on my travels.
Great to find nearby places and get info about opening times.
Great app for finding a day at a trust sight
Great suggestions and easy to use
works perfect
Its amazing
Great app which really helps us when we're looking for days out. My wife and I were thinking though, one thing we very often do is plan our longer journeys with a stop and we try to look for national trust places around halfway through our journey by using Google maps to plan the route and then work out where roughly halfway is and then load this app to see if we can find places in that area. What would be a really nice feature would be to be able to put our start and end postcodes into the app and then it suggest properties along the route or within a few miles of it so we could more easily see where we could stop and have our lunch on a trip. Just a thought anyway :)
Don't be put off by the negative reviews of this app (I can only assume they're reviewing an older, less polished version). Today, it's an excellent app; very slick, easy to find what you're after, with a neat feature to sort properties you've been and 'want to go'. The only reason I haven't given it five is because, as a membership organisation, I think there ought to be a function to login and link to your membership account in one way or another. It's not a big deal, but it'd be a nice touch. Otherwise, this is top notch.
I installed this app a few years ago but it kept crashing. I decided to give it another chance and just reinstalled it. It's is much better than I remember. It is everything that I want from this app. I thinking of becoming a member very soon. This app shows there are even more places near where I live, Manchester, than I realised. Love that you can see and plan events.
As far as it goes it works ok. It can be slow to load. What I think it would benefit from is having your card and membership details within the app. Also how about walking tours of gardens / houses etc? Good but potentially much better
It's useful if you want an idea of what's around you, but could do with some additional features. Most useful might be the inclusion of the membership card inside the app, allowing the same QR code to be displayed on a screen so members can use this in the event of the plastic card being left behind. I'd also like that feature to be utilised as a way of tracking visits to locations, so I could look back at when I visited a place last by checking the history in the app. Rating locations inside the app with the option to add photo's (like Google maps) could be good for potential visitors to see what others see, and read their thoughts on the locations.
Very useful to bookmark place I would like to visit and places I've been. Love the lay out and find it very easy to use. Only thing I would add it a members area for us all to leave our reviews on places and tips
First time use on April 2017. 12 secs to download, 10 secs to install. Nexus 5 on fast bband. Like the layout and system so far. I always read the reviews before installing and was initially put off by some poor ones. No probs here!
Great app but mileage is incorrect so don't go by that, need to add quite a lot more on top of what the app says. Its the only fault I have found so far but otherwise a great concept.
A nice app, occasionally has stability issues. Originally I reviewed saying it would benefit from a filtering system (so you can find dog friendly areas), I have now noticed there is, but it's not where I thought it would. You have to start scrolling through the locations before it gives you the filtering options at the top. Not the most obvious place, would've thought it would be with the drop down menu. If I had noticed sooner, I'd have been able to visit some locations while on holiday with my dog.
Really good app. Very useful. Visited lots of places I otherwise wouldn't have found. I can't understand why this has such a low score. I've had no problems with it
As others have said, this app would be much more useful if it could be used in place of your membership card. I frequently walk on a my local estate with my phone, but not my purse so the estate is missing out on having my card swiped each time. Also would be lovely to have a Starbucks style ability to preload with money to buy drinks etc. in the cafe and collect points instead of tree wasting cardboard cards that are stamped.
Excellent app, but... I'm a huge fan of the National Trust and my family recently became members, however, I noticed today the distance function doesn't seem to be working. For example, Lyme Park is listed as 35 miles away. I'm in Leeds and I know for a fact it's closer to 60 miles away.
Great app, loaded on phone and tablet. Just fire it up and it instantly gives you a list of properties near to you. Details are easy to find and scroll through, lots of other great features, use it all the time.
Terrible, takes an age to load. Really disappointing because I am dedicated to the NT.
Great app for accessing the NT list. Big feature missing is the ability to save/load your bookmarked places to an online store or export/import - otherwise you'll spend ages setting it up and then loose it when you change your phone. If supported then you'll also be able to synchronise it to other devices (tablet or wife's phone). Finally the 'My places' bookmarks needs to be integrated in to the NT website - so you can bookmark/review places on a computer too.
It does what it says on the tin. Has no problems at all. One improvement would be to add more locations, but that doesn't effect the app.
People who are giving this app bad reviews must be using either an older version of the app or an ancient phone or tablet, because on my Galaxy S8 it is lush, it runs as well as you would wish it to & the content is excellent, once I have used it for a month or two I will update my review.
Good App! Perhaps the addition of a "virtual" membership card? Eg scan the QR code on the physical card. Maybe a notification system, that notifies you when you're within an "x" mile radius of a previously unvisited National Trust place.
This app made it easier for me to discover places nearby and also mark the ones I would like to visit. Information about the places, opening times and such, is very useful. Thank you!
Very well designed, easy to use. Can find locations easily, and the event discovery is actually useful! Find by location and/or date, spot on. This app deserves a much higher rating.

Read a comment that you were working on a virtual membership card app. Not happy as I have been told on many visits that they wont accept my membership stored on my mobile. Please dont tell me its a security issue as I could hand my membership card to anyone to use but with it stored on my phone it is so much easier and one less piece of plastic to carry.
