Met Office Weather Forecast for Android
Update: Rainfall map doesn't match the forecast so not much use in current form. Latest update adds the ability to zoom the rainfall map so the app is slowly getting there feature wise, however, the overall look of the app is a bit bland and not visually appealing although it is usable and shows all the important weather details for me.
I'd used the older Met Office app for years, for UK weather the Met Office is unbeatable. This new app is easier to use and I like the option to pay for it to be ad-free. Forecasts are as useful as always and the new rainfall map is a useful addition. I've had a couple of app errors on my Pixel Phone, but no more than I get with Google's apps so I put it down to running cutting edge OS updates.
1) Rainfall map never shows data, nor does it show that it is waiting for an CHAR to complete (neither did the old one) 2) No pressure charts any longer 3) For outdoor use I want to see temp, previous prob, wind and guest simultaneously in a grid over time periods The Met Office is and should be the definitive forecasts for the UK, this app is a small backward step for tablet users
App seems good but trying to allow it to use my location get an app overlay must be turned off. Unnecessary when you only need my location. No other app which uses my location has this problem.
Love this app. It keeps getting better too. I'd love some more technical information though, like the altitude of fog and cloud. I'd also like to make more options for widgets, like having the option for daily forecast rather than hourly.
I paid for the ad free version of the App as it was a lifetime deal. I was sick of android and Microsoft's default weather apps being far less than accurate. The only thing that prevents me giving it 5 stars is the limited international locations for weather.
After using new app for several days I have removed my earlier review because I find this new version a pain! More clicks and swipes needed to find full details. Am now searching for another app with layout similar to this one's predeccesor.
Not sure the rain radar can be trusted. Its 07:30 and the next 24 hours starts at 15:00! Also the last 6 hours can never retrieve any data. Also, why is it for phones only? It works on my tablet but I have install it from an unofficial source and so don't get updates.
You have changed the outlook. Now it look so dull , can't see clearly between cloudy or cloudy with sunshine interval etc. I want the old colourful view!!
Difficult to manoeuvre. If you add something , all the ' good stuff ' disappears! This is a re-review. The fault was mine. Great improvements.
This is a slick app presenting the Met Office's very reliable forecasts (that's compared with alternatives - it's still often wrong, but I guess that's just forecasting), that up to now was frustratingly lacking in two key features of the "old" Met Office app. One of these features, the fantastically-precise rainfall radar map has just reappeared, and the other, the ability to have the widget show the forecast today, tomorrow and the day rather than the use now, fifteen minutes time, and in an hour, is promised soon, so hopefully back up to five stars soon!
So far it is extremely reliable. One minor issue relates to the rainfall radar for last 6 hours. This can be difficult to control with the slider.
Very good. Would be nice to swipe between locations when looking at the details of a place, rather than going back to main screen. My only non positive comment. Very nice otherwise.
Currently unusable on my nexus 6p. Granted all permissions but the app refuses to find current position and load subsequent data. Also weather alert map doesn't show the areas affected making the whole thing completely useless. Can i have the old app back please?
Great update for the rain radar map. When it whizzed along it was hard to see but now it can be controlled and zoom into the map.
Its a good weather app but would be nice for the forcast to show a few days like the met office does on tv. Hence the 4 stars But all in all a great little tool to keep with you.
Ok but missing easy access to weather warnings. Cannot find it for the life of me. But a much cleaner interface than the original app.
App always seems behind or is it just the met office that's behind dunno but site and app often don't match it also thinks I live in the next village lol
Missing isobar option and others from map view can we have them back? Can the vibrate option on the timeshift for rain map be an option to switch off? Improvements over last app but not all for the better.
Good app but also run the old one too as have more items to view but they are moving them across apparently so will see
Why give up on your old app which does far more than this new rubbish?? Idiots.
The app is good and very accurate. But have tried several times and cannot load onto my android tablet
Struggling now I'm using Android 7. Doesn't seem to pick up my location despite allowing location access
I never leave the house without checking the app first. It isn't always 100% spot-on but it is mostly reliable.
An improvement on earlier apps. I like the interactive rain map, but why does it have to vibrate? That is annoying.
I find the app more accurate than most and easy to use, I like to check the weather for journeys at my start point, destination and points along the way if I'm going far and it's easy to do that on here
I do like it... but preferred the old one.
The old app was so much better. Easier to use, more functionality, clearer presentation. The new app does not have the map screen that the old app had, with UV, satellite and synoptic chart etc, with current and future screens. The home screen has a "search and save more places" box at the top taking up useful screen real estate that you will hardly use once you have your home location and a couple of other places set up. Devs: move it to the menu. Move as much as you can to the menu. And it doesn't work in portrait mode.
The old app although excellent was dated and this upgrade is exactly that an upgrade! The first screen gives you exactly what you want, a local forecast along with a video forecast and rainfall radar, which gives the glancing user what they need. By tapping the place you want means you get a more detailed forecast local to your area along with the ability to easily have other saved places on hand. The information is clear and easily accessible exactly what you want and the"actual feel" temperature is the most useful piece of info because it actually allows you to know what the temp is and so take the necessary actions. An excellent app made better by the upgrade and that is a rare statement to make. Best weather app on the market!
All relevant functionality is threre with added bonus of pollen & polution. Good to be able to buy out of large ads. Latest update brings very useful update to rainfall radar - no longer plays like a stuttering video, can scroll back & forth. Ideal if bandwidth and issue. Devs listen to comments: can resize widgets now.
Old app started to crash alot. Installed new one as noticed it had been updated. It works but missing features of the old app. Eg maps that can be easily more forward of back in time. Update. Now getting better. Rain radar map is excellent. Last 6 hours and next 24hour (although this 2nd part is not updating now for me).
This was my favourite weather app until you've changed it. The purpose of an app is to fit the requirements of a mobile phone, however it now looks like the desktop version and I have to slide to see the whole day's forcast and click and slide on the page to see the weather for the whole week. Phones have vertical displays and this is rather frustrating as opposed to the previous version where everything was in vertical order. It was all in one column, no need to slide, you could clearly see everything. I am rather disappointed.
Version 1.8.0 is a great step forward in respect of the Rainfall Map overall. Zooming, time slot selection & Zoom are all very good. However, more work is required to correct an obvious code error in the display of the rainfall data itself which is occulted for all but a few time slots appropriately 6 hours apart leaving only the underlying map displayed for most of the time. Overall an excellent start, a few more tweaks and you will have a winner.
May'16, Dark theme, more contrast, show the whole day without scrolling right so much (swipe 4 times to see day temp range and back to check precipitation? That's 12 swipes minimum), wind changes but no *track* of times of wind shift (option to add speed and direction along with hmdty etc? Swop out uv, hmdty? ), widget to show the whole day's weather as a summary or else you always have to open the full app. Please.
This app can be a little confusing use (but I am dyspraxic so maybe not for most people) but is by far the best for UK weather. Far more accurate than Google (which is USA based after all) and has a useful 'feels like' temperature which takes into account actual temperature, wind chill and humidity.
In my opinion the overall presentation of the weather information needs substantial improvement. If I side scroll through an hourly forecast into the next day, the display does not clearly indicate the change of day/date. If I choose not to have the rainfall map on the front page I can't access it at all, even through a menu option, which is a little silly. The rainfall map and video forecast should be treated as distinctly seperate items when choosing what appears on the front page. The hourly and daily forecast is very dull and grey, how about a little more colour? The principle forecast could fill the screen better if it is all there is to show.
The pre Feb 2017 app was much better for me as a window cleaner. This one doesn't offer the same level of information anymore. It served me well for the last three years and now I'm back to watching the clouds myself. Very disappointed and quite frankly such a useful tool for work has suddenly disappeared.
This app while slowly improving still contains only a fraction of the features found on the previous app (now discontinued). The ability to freeze frame the rain radar on the map by time was very useful, as was the ability to see temperatures, UV and pressure nationwide. It was good to see the rain map has sort of come back but I don't think a video and auto play option with pause and no zoom is as user friendly as tapping on the time you want, especially when the play bar is over the area you live.
Rubbish UI. The old app was much better. Forced to load this dross after a phone update. HATE IT. I loved the way I could see a summary of the next five days straight away. Then drill down for daily detail. The old vertical layout was the logical one - same as a diary and all visible at once. This version has the visual appeal of an abbatoir, without the functionality. BIG FAIL

I much prefer the old app, the screen is very cluttered on this version. I'm sure it is great if you have tens of places you want to know the weather for but for those who only have a few, the look and feel of the old app was much better.
