UKTV Play - watch catch up TV

Resume is still broken. Uninstall and install the app to be able to continue or rewatch a show you've already started watching. You can pause and unpause a show, but if you navigate away from that screen it will offer to resume or restart, but neither will work - you have to uninstall the app and start over. The adverts always play. Aside from that it is free and has some good shows.

Absolutely awful app. Once you've started watching a show it will not resume should you have to pause for any reason. Surely the whole point of a 'catch up tv' app is to watch programs at your own leisure? If you can't pause or part watch a show and resume then it's exactly the same as missing it the first time round!!! Utterly ridiculous. I still find it amazing that they release an app like this, they must know fill well that it doesn't work properly?

This app is still flawed. 1) It sometimes remembers its place if you lose signal. 2) it cannot reload a programme if you lose signal. 3) It freezes and cuts out many times more than all the other TV apps. 4) The ads go on for ages and when you try and restart a programme it restarts the ads even if it cuts out just as ads were ending. 5) It's not on Chromecast. 6) clearing app data and cache doesn't.

I've got nothing against having adverts on the app but when it's not stable it can be very annoying. The adverts will freeze, crash and often keep repeating. You can sit there for 10 minutes watching adverts waiting for the programme you are halfway through to come back. Update: seem to have fixed the advert issue mostly but still there a bit. Really need to get Chromecast functionality though

It does not work! The adverts play OK but when a programme starts audio is fine but the screen is blank. The same dismal performance with three different versions on four different Android devices. Perhaps they think they are running a radio station!

Complete rubbish. You can't resume playback or watch more than one episode just says your Internet connection is the problem. Website doesn't offer playback, only directs you to the app which doesn't work!

1 star might seem harsh but this is genuinely an awful app. You have to uninstall and reinstall to resume watching a show, even if you just clicked away for a second. And even then, you'd have to watch all of the episode you had already viewed up to that point, as if you skip forward it sometimes does the same thing. I fiddled around for 15 minutes trying to resume watching before giving up. Seriously, just don't bother with the app.

Adverts play fine but when it comes to the actual program, all I get is a screen full of lines and then pink and green patterns with the sound or a black screen with the buffering circle going round and round. Don't waste your time installing it.

Appalling app. Doesn't the development team read these reviews? Just plays adverts, then black screen with rotating circle or green striped screen with sound! Cannot surely have been tested. Dire, unusable, uninstalled!

What s pile of steaming crap. Will play for 60 seconds before 5 mins of buffering then crashes. Deleted quicker than it took to download and installing. Please dont waste your time on the ap

Absolutely useless app why bother your only pissing people off. As soon as you play a video you can't watch it again even if you watch 2 seconds it won't let you watch again. I thought UKTV was a decent company ah ha. Obviously a decade behind the rest

Good if you like watching a blank black screen and having a frozen phone. Worst app it has been my misfortune to install. Get some kids in to sort it out.

Considering the app is in its early stages, it does a pretty good job. It's got a large library of shows and I'm impressed with the resume feature, settings, etc. I have had a minor issue whereby I lose signal and can therefore no longer watch the same episode again once I retry (it just throws an error). There is a solution to fix this though: ● In system settings, find the UKTVPlay App ● Click on it and look for the 'data' and 'cache' sections ● Clear the cache, but only clear the data if you aren't worried about losing favourite shows, etc.

No chromecast support and just a black screen with the buffering circle. Waste of time installing, don't bother! !

I HATE THIS APP! This should not have been released at this stage.. it either doesn't resume the video or it doesn't play it at all! Very disappointed by such a well known/loved company.. sort it out UKTV!!!

Very temperamental app. Cannot resume a programme if I've had to click away from it. Sometime will not allow me to watch more than a couple of episodes before telling me a video could not load, though it will play the adverts then go to a black screen. Every time this has happened I have had an internet connection and there has been nothing else interfering. I have had to uninstall and reinstall this app several times to be able to get through entire series. The only reason I am continuing to use this app is because it's the only way I can catch up with the last series of Red Dwarf. Once I have finished watching it this app will be uninstalled. Please sort out the playback issues.

I once wrote a really scathing review of this app, it's nice to see that it is now much worse! Just pull it and fix it, I'm an android developer you contact me if you'd like I can make this much better with very little effort dunno what your team is doing but this does not work at the best of times and reflects badly on you at the worst actively driving away viewera

Please do not claim Hugely Improved Performance if you cannot prove it. If you navigate away from the program being watched, you cannot resume watching. Please fix. Such a shame as the content is very good indeed.

TV shows won't load. Adverts play ok but not shows. All is ok on my ipad but app fails on android. Could do with linking up to chromecast. App would be much better.

I keep having to keep reinstalling the app every time i stop a programme as it keeps saying unable to load video when i start it up again this after the bug was so called fix

Good for all the shows you want to watch but as other people said the resume feature doesn't work, and I had a problem where I started a program and the edited it and changed program but it played both with one the background. Overall the app definitely needs some work.

Great app, have watched complete episodes sets including Pie in The Sky and Lovejoy without any problems. This app could be improved by adding casting ability to Smart TVs!

Actively prevents casting. But still plays the starting adverts first of course... before blaming the connection!

Awful app. Shows won't play and it tells me constantly to check my internet connection. There is nothing wrong with my connection. Don't waste your time with this app.

Totally useless. Constantly showing 'cannot load' warning while the video is playing behind it. Then it crashes and after a few time it crashes the system and had to restart!! It even deleted my home screen background picture! !?! Uninstalled thank you!! Thank you! I haven't had the chance to actually explore the app past the bleeming warning sing but it seems there is no chromecast support.

It just doesn't work properly !! They shouldnt be able to put this on the market .The developer must have a vivid imagination if they think this is exeptable . Come sort this out or if you not able to then drop

Worse than ever. Delivers the adverts but not the show. I assume still no chromecast but since it won't play I couldn't really comment.

This app was working ok until I installed it on my new galaxy a5. Now it lets me watch something and if I try to watch that program again I just get a sign saying 'video won't load, please check connection' Incredibly, This only happens once the adds have finished, of course

It's ok but you can not stop a show then go back half way through you need to clear the data and catch then go back to app to start again

This appears to have been recently updated and yet there is still no function to resume a programme. The only way to resume is to uninstall the app then install it again. Bit rubbish if you ask me. I was bit disappointed that only about four episodes of Rebus were on here.

Same views as majority of users have submitted. Pls can you revert to previous version or send fix updates asaip. In my case app was actually working fine on yoga tab2 and j5 mobile since they improved it around end of last year, regrettably I installed the recent update in march and now unworkable, constant loading circle or stripes across the screen,tried usual steps which everyone else has mentioned...should not have ok'd update version but can't remember if it was optional to continue using UKTV Play or not so would have been stumped either way.

It downloads but I cannot watch it it doesn't come up the program only the sound it's just Blake

Does not allow you to resume watching or even start again from the beginning. If you watch something half way through when you return it will play ads then go to a black screen

Not perfect, but works to watch TV shows to go to sleep to. Only issue is that the cache fills up and has to be manually deleted - and this is nearly 2 GB worth of cache, each time.

STOP THE VIDEO COULD NOT BE PLAYED ERROR! I would recommend just using the browser as the 'video could not be played error' is far too frequent. I can't watch anything.

Shocking, had to uninstall and reinstall just to watch paused/resumed programs. Pile of tosh as the app developers don't take on board user feedback!

So far it's took me 3 hours to watch 1 1hour programme had uninistal this app 5 and reinstall as it keeps going black screen with white spinning circle in middle of screen but if I hadn't come back to recent feedback I would have not have known to do this I would still be waiting for programme to load PLEASE sort it out guys

Completely unnecessary, does nothing a browser couldn't do (except force ads). To resume a programme you have to go to settings and clear the app data! And sometimes to play anything at all. Programmes are my always complete.

What can I say? It's a poor product wrapped in a stylish package. The UI looks great, even if navigation animations are somewhat lacking, but that's pretty much where the good points stop. I downloaded this purely to watch season XI of Red Dwarf, which I managed to do. That is of course after the compulsory ~60 second adverts beforehand and ~120 second adverts after. I know ads are a thing even nowadays but come the smeg on, nearly 4 minutes of adverts per 27 minute episode? Bugger off. Especially when the app doesn't even work properly. As others have stated if you leave an episode early you have to reinstall the app in order to continue watching it, as the resume function doesn't work at all. Oh, and God forbid you touch your screen while an ad is playing, as this will open an external web page on your browser, causing the video to reset meaning you have to watch the ads AGAIN even if you only had a few seconds left. Seriously, the only reason this is a 2 star review and not a one star is because I actually did manage to watch my show. But I'm uninstalling this app now and never using it again. This kind app is why I normally torrent my videos. A note to the devs, I'm not sure but pretty certain it doesn't take a doctorate in computer science to figure out to TEST YOUR APP before releasing it. Useless. The lot of you.
