About Realtime Trains

Realtime Trains provides live rail travel information about passenger trains across the entire British mainline railway network. We take live data from Network Rail, who own the track and operate the signalling, and use this to make easy and accurate predictions about where your train really is!

You can:

- Find your nearest stations by location, or search for any station by name or three letter code
- See live departures or arrivals for any station, anywhere, any time. See where and when your train has been, and where it will be.
- Unique to Realtime Trains: Keep getting to the station just in time to see your train rolling off into the distance? We’ll show you if the train’s on the approach to the station, rolling into the platform, or is already there and about to leave… so you know when to run!
- On some high-frequency routes, you’ll get an at-a-glance list of trains with an easy countdown timer in the corner, so it’s fast and easy to see how many minutes you have until each one leaves.
- Find out which platform your train’s leaving from as soon as we know (usually quicker than it goes up on the boards at the station!) You’ll see the planned platform to start, taken from the timetable. When it turns bold, it’s been confirmed: your train is approaching, or at the platform right now.
- Set up a home station and favourite your normal stations or most used routes
- Create an alarm for your train’s departure or arrival—never miss your stop again!
- Keep a list of ‘favourite’ trains, for convenient access
- Download the timetable for a particular service so you can access it without a signal

This is Version 1 of the Realtime Trains app. Coming soon, we’ll be adding the ability to search for and track non-passenger trains (freight trains, engineering trains, empty stock moves) and special trains like railtours. We're also working on a series of new and exciting features that we can't talk about at the moment - but will soon!

Please note that Realtime Trains is a tool for real time passenger information across the British mainline passenger rail network in England, Scotland and Wales. At present, it does not provide information for trams, light railways, metros (including most London Underground stations) or heritage railways off the mainline. We also do not currently cover services operating in Ireland.

Not working. Can select station but departure board never loads,

Finance this guy so he can build more cool stuff!!

Z70%
by Z####:

The website is much better and costs nothing.

X70%

Bought over THREE years ago on the promise of future update to freight and special trains, but this has never happened. A pity, because without that, it's nothing different and same info. is available in other apps for free. Crashed when looking for train details. Uninstalling, wish I'd not paid for it.

Z70%
by Z####:

setting for automating switch of a sound to headset if inserted would be really usefull for stop reminder. map at the srartup of app annoyes. delayed train stops are not precise - still shows all stops, even if train is passing some stations. otherwise good app.

Z70%
by Z####:

An app would have been the perfect opportunity to address the shortcomings of the (excellent) website - refreshing, real time stuff, etc. Sadly, though, they've missed a trick - the app seems to be trying to scratch an itch I certainly never had, but at the cost of all the rich detail available on the site. And without being a particularly useful "simple" tool, either.

Z70%
by Z####:

The app is OK but doesnt do half of what the website does and frankly a waste of £2.99. I would like to be able to search on headcodes and see the detailed information on journeys. Junctions, ECS etc.

P70%
by P####:

Needs freight and junctions. Not worth the money when free apps can do what this app does. Crashes on samsung edge. No use at all.

D70%
by D####:

No advanced option which was my primary aim to use this app. However if requiring basic information then a relevant decent and easy to use app at your finger tips

G70%
by G####:

Unless you want to support the website, which I still have to use because this app is terrible.

R70%
by R####:

The only app that tells you which platform the train departs from at London Euston a long time before the screens show it.

Z70%
by Z####:

This app isn't as good as its parent website, but it's still pretty good for casual use.

Z70%
by Z####:

Unlike the website, this will only show basic information and not the detailed information available on the website.

J70%
by J####:

Gives you details of platforms before they are on the boards, and a handy alarm setting to wake you up a few minutes before your train arrives at its destination.

Z70%
by Z####:

Like many others, wanted this to track freight and specials, the app description should make it clear that these features are not available

Z70%
by Z####:

Used to be a very useful app. Now it waits for ever while loading a departure board.

M70%
by M####:

Finds what trains i need and shows freight trains passing for the train spotter.

M70%
by M####:

Bought it well over a year ago on the promise of future update to freight and special trains, but this has never happened. A pity, because without that, it's nothing special and same info. is available in other apps for free.

M70%
by M####:

Ok if trains are on or close to on time, it can't handle short notice the delays and cancellations associated with major incidents like fatalities. It just carries on like nothing is wrong despite the carnage other apps like Network Rail's are showing.

C70%
by C####:

This really is a poor app when compared to web pages - I'm v interested in freight movements for photography - this app provides NO data all

P70%
by P####:

Gives you details of platforms before they are on the boards, and a handy alarm setting to wake you up a few minutes before your train arrives at its destination.

M70%
by M####:

Comes in had handy but requires more features.

K70%
by K####:

So I purchased this 2 years ago and I'm still waiting for freight...

M70%
by M####:

No hiding place for any train now!

R70%
by R####:

Good app, would be useful if you included in the much needed updade include heritage lines so that enthusiasts could track thier favorite steam engines on and off the main line

M70%
by M####:

Annoyingly slow to find GPS location, and no more info provided than the Train Operation Company versions. The Web page version of this product is however far more detailed. Many more way points shown. Why not shown on the App. I paid £3 for less service, Web version is free!

M70%
by M####:

Big disappointment! When will the App be the same as the web "Advanced"?

G70%
by G####:

Has none of the functionality which makes the website version so useful.

M70%
by M####:

Live Trains on a map then you get 5 stars

D70%
by D####:

I was expecting as much detail as the website gives but I was sadly mistaken

M70%
by M####:

It's a amazing app that tells you when your train arrives and what station its at. Now I'm waiting for the freight times and this app will be complete.

M70%
by M####:

Real-time it works 100%

M70%
by M####:

Installed twice, crashes on opening. Waste of money.

V70%
by V####:

No freight trains etc, a shadow of what's on the web. A real shame because without more detail it's not fit for my purposes. Other free apps are actually better.

Z70%
by Z####:

Since I have been introduced to this app I didn't stop using it, I love it. One thing, would it be possible, in the pinned schedules, to see the departure platform of each service? It would save a lot of time!

D70%
by D####:

Simple and effective, does what it does with elegant efficiency. But it seems to me there is a real and probably large specific market that none of these services quite answer: the info needed not by passengers but by *greeters*. Someone says "I'm on the 1202 from Liverpool Street to Ipswich" - and what you need to know is what time it gets to [selected station en route] so you can meet them there. This app sort of does that incidentally but not far enough ahead in time.

Z70%
by Z####:

You are limited to only seeing trains in the 60 min and dose not show not in service trains complete waste of money .

J70%
by J####:

I was expecting as much detail as the website gives but I was sadly mistaken
