Anchor Alert for Android
Please add NMEA for lat/lon would allow us to monitor anchor position using the boats GPS antenna. Also could add a depth alarm.
This app does exactly what you need. And does it easier than any other app I have tried.
This app has been a great way to sleep better while on the hook. With the message capabilities, even going ashore is less of a "I hope we're still in the same place" moment.
Tried them all. Thuis is the easiest to use and most configurable. And ost importantly you don't have to set it while anchoring - easy to set later. Well worth the money.
For sure the best in his category
Don't think twice about having to pay for this app. It's the best app for sailors that has been developed. It certainly worked for me and alerted me to a potentially disastrous situation for which I am eternally grateful. Works better than my Garmin! I notice my original story appears on the website so I won't repeat it here. One thing that is interesting is that although I have a steel boat the app works fine below on Android 4.1 (HUAWEI ) . It's Five stars from me. Thanks for the useful updates.
You must have this if you anchor your boat and can't stay on deck to be sure you stay put. Sleep soundly or go ashore for the day and know the boat is where you put it.
I used this app sailing in the San Juans last summer. I am a fairly novice and paranoid sailor, but using this app allowed us to have an amazing week. Using this app we were able to anchor in some very tight conditions in weather. There was one night where the app detected us dragging the achor in a tight anchorage with other boats. Without this app, our sailing trip would have: a) not been possible, or b) been disastrous. Thanks to the folks that developed smart phones and apps!
I held off buying this because of the price for months. When we launched the boat in the spring, I realized that while expensive for an app, this was a negligible boat expense, especially for the peace of mind. I used it 15 to 20 times over the 2011 season and once I had it figured out found it very useful. When I first installed it, it would not function correctly. I emailed the developer, and he responded a couple of days later with an update that fixed my specific issue. When I first started using it, I'd anchor the big boat in a quiet cove and get into the dinghy to practice using Anchor Alert and to see how it reacted. I'd row up to a lobster bouy and set my imaginary anchor, set Anchor Alert then drift away while I could watch the screen to see when an alarm was triggered. I also tested the exclusion zones & drift. I trust the software, and while at anchor I like to use this as another tool to check my night observations.
Bought this a couple of days before my annual sailing trip thinking it would be "a bit of fun", but on the first night when it took 5 attempts to set the anchor and with winds stronger than expected it worked brilliantly and provide a great deal of reassurance. The instructions, though extensive, are not very clear, but once you get the hang of it you can effectively set a segment of your swinging arc as a zone and see your track within it. Highly recommended.
Was hesitant on the price, but really.. The peace of mind and ability to sleep after a long passage is more than worth it. Great app
As good as it gets within GPS limits of the phone.
Great tool for boaters. Does what it says. Greatly improves my peace of mind on the anchor! Responsive developer.

Excellent anchor alarm app. I've used it enough to have complete confidence in it. It's easy to set up and it works. I don't understand why this functionality is not designed into Raymarine chartplotters which cost thousands of dollars. The anchor alarm function on chartplotters does not allow for setting of distance and bearing to the anchor, so unless you activate it when the GPS sensor is directly over the anchor, which is virtually impossible to do, the swing circle will never be centred around the anchor and is usually offset by chain length + boat length (assuming that the GPS sensor is towards the stern of the boat). This means that if you have to allow for a 180 gegree wind shift, the allowable drift range has to be extended by chain length + boat length, e.g. for 30m chain out + 14m boat and 10 drift, the alarm drift radius has to be set to 2x(chain + boat length) + drift = 98m. Using the Anchor Alert app, the alarm drift radius would be chain + boat + drift = 54m. Also, the alarm sound on the Raymarine eS series plotters is a rather low level 4kHz tone which is easy to sleep through. You will NOT sleep through the Anchor Alert alarm sound!! Thanks for a great app.
