RODIS Wildlife Recording FREE for Android
Rodis doesnt work on my new Nexus 9 (Android Lollipop OS).
Not working on nexus 10 4.4 kitkat
Reasonable app for wildife recording. Like the full sp dictionary, dislike the cumbersome data entry (but I've yet to find an app which isn't cumbersome!)
Paul Hill's review gives a good summary of the features, so I wont repeat what he has said. Having recently recieved my first "smart" phone I was keen to find a recording app to help in my work. This fits the bill perfectly, allowing accurate and quick recording and most importantly the export feature (as CSV files) allows records to be imported into GIS software or desktop recording packages such as Recorder2002. The ability to cache map tiles allows map use where there is no mobile reception and saves on data usage. Support is very good, with the developer responding to my enquiries.
I've now used RODIS since it's launch and must say that it has certainly made biological recording easier, especially as you can plot accurately using your smartphones inbuilt GPS - no more fiddling about with OS Maps on site, or trying to write on wet paper with a blunt pencil. I've not used or searched for all the functions yet, but at times it would be useful to be able to pre-load a checklist for a site to save having to switch between say mammals and birds and plants. TBH not sure where Les is coming from, maybe some support, which is available may help.
not sure if the developer understands what people want from an application like this.

Excellent recording app! Love the species dictionary and straight forward data entry system. It makes plotting species very simple by using the GPS on your phone. You can export your records as a spreadsheet for easy data entry later on too.
