About Mountain Steps UK
Mountain Steps UK is a multi-functional application designed specifically for the unique mountain environment.
If you’re a total beginner, a keen mountain newcomer, or training for the Three Peaks Challenge, then this is the only app you’ll need.
Even if you’re already an enthusiastic lowland walker, Mountain Steps UK has the knowledge for a safe transition to the mountain scene, and provides articles on the unique aspects of the mountain environment.
Features include –
- Photo-supported route guides and interactive maps of ALL major routes up Snowdon, Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, Pen y Fan, and Cadair Idris. Including how to get to the start!
(We’ve recently added 8 routes for Pen y Fan and Cadair Idris. Other mountains and regions will continue to be added over time)
- Kit advice for newbies, from socks to basic emergency kit.
- Tuition on how to navigate with a map and compass.
- Emergency awareness and ‘essential’ first aid, combined with emergency procedures if it all goes wrong.
- Current location finders, grid reference calculators, magnetic declination algorithms, and constantly updated sunset times.
- A large range of articles on plants and their uses, birds, history, sport and a multitude of other mountain-specific topics.
- Contains over 120,000 words and 400 photographs!
- 10% of the profits to be donated to Mountain Rescue.

What's Changed
Fixed the bugs introduced to the route instruction pages in previous release. The pages no longer get overwritten making them hard to read.
Met Office weather reports are now available within the app for the mountain region of the walks, and for each individual summit. These are accessed from the menu button on each page.

Awesome app, had this on my iPad for years now got on my android. Reason initial download is large is because it loads the maps to your phone so they can be used off line when your on a mountain with no mobile reception.

All kitted out, comfortable boots, ready to practice my navigation and have a great time seeing everything for myself. All from one handy app! Glad i had wi-fi to download it though, it's pretty chunky, but that's because there's LOADS on it!

This app was installed on my Galaxy S3. Then when downloading the 180mb maps it went crazy and used up all 750mb of my monthly allowance & its only the 4th of the month. I have no more data. It is a defective app. I am NOT happy.

Purchased with a view to trial on walk, but fails to even let me browse a map in detail. Unfit for purpose on "my" device, but must have been ok on their test devices I hope. Expensive app, that also requires it to download another 150mbs of map detail. That's fine, just make sure you are on wifi !! :)

Path descriptions including pictures are really helpful. Unfortunately the app stops working 30% of the time and sometimes the text of the previous page is displayed on top of the current page making the instructions difficult to impossible to read. A shame as otherwise a good concept for an app.
