At TCB, content is king. That's why we produce 5 times more lessons than any other Chinese news-based learning resource, guaranteed by our stringent 7-point editorial process. By breaking Chinese learning into fun, manageable chunks, TCB takes the chore out of the daily character grind. We understand better than anybody else that as materials for other languages have progressed, Mandarin has tended to get left behind, and for that reason we are leading the revolution! Throw away those textbooks and learn in a way that is exciting, engaging and fun. Whether you are studying for a HSK exam, or just want to push your Mandarin to the next level, TCB is the platform for you.

TCB QUALITY CONTROL
Extra functionality is great, but our primary concern has been and will always be lesson quality. For that reason, we developed a stringent 7-point editorial process to ensure the quality of everything we produce. You can read our news-based lessons with peace of mind that the language and content used has been double and triple checked by professionals to our precise standards. Our writers and editors work tirelessly behind the scenes and we will always continue to improve. This app is now my favorite Chinese learning app. Great features, great customer service and dev team. My previous rating was based on some connectivity issues but this as been solved by now. I am more than happy to be a subscriber. It truly deserves a spot in your Chinese learning arsenal. I recommend it without the slightest hesitation.

Can't rate this app highly enough, it's been pivotal in my Mandarin education. Lots of great content every day and very user friendly - so glad that my teacher recommended it to me!

W70%
by W####:

So helpful! I read at least one article every day alongside learning the vocabulary for the next HSK level up (on another app). Then I will progress to next level of articles. So cool to be able to read Chinese~I love it!

Awesome app, can't recommend it enough if you are learning mandarin. It's easy to use and the live dictionary is extremely useful.

App description needs updating, because this app is no longer free. There are seven sample articles which you can read, and then everything else requires a $10/month subscription fee.

Best way to learn Chinese, the content is great! Customer service is also very responsive. I had a couple of errors and they fixed them right away. Highly recommended!

No way to retrieve forgotten password. Can't reregister with my email since it's already in use. App is unaccessible.

Q70%
by Q####:

This app is an excellent concept but there are many, many technical glitches that make for an extremely frustrating user experience. First, the app sometimes will not load the audio content for articles. Second, the pronunciation for many characters is wrong. Third, the browser loads the articles slowly and sometimes even fails to load them at all. If technical improvements were made to this app, then it would be an excellent tool for learning Chinese, but as of now it's simply too flawed to be worth a premium subscription.

Q70%
by Q####:

I bought the subscription a few days ago and am really happy with my acquisition. But I have some suggestions before I rate it as a 5 star app. I already sent a feedback e-mail, but it was suggested that I post it here as well. One suggestion is that it should be possible to set the app for showing pinyin only after tapping a certain character/ word (I explained why in the e-mail). Other suggestion is there should be a distinction in the home screen between the articles that I've read and the others.

Hands down best app for rapidly improving your Chinese. I'm an avid reader and I always found reading to be the best way to expand vocab. However, until I found out about The Chairman's Bao app I never could force myself to read in Chinese regularly. The biggest issue I had as a learner of Chinese was finding interesting things to read about online that are not too difficult to understand.. After trying out a lot of apps through the last few years I noticed I prefer reading - it gives the learner a better overview of grammar and vocab is repeated more times in written texts. Learning with TCB makes this a breeze, instead of finding and curating content online I can now focus just on the study part and enjoy the feeling of being able to understand Chinese more than with any other app out there. Amazing app, recommend it to anyone who has trouble breaking into reading and improving their spoken grammar.

Great app for learning Chinese. Highly recommended.

I just discovered the app and totally loved it, so I decided to buy the Premium version. When logged in via the browser, it recognises my premium status but the app doesn't. So it's useless for me. Furthermore, the app is full of bugs, I can neither sign out nor view my profile, the app keeps crashing. If you can't get any of this fixed, I'll have to ask for a refund unfortunately - as much as I like the concept of the app

Q70%
by Q####:

This was a very useful app. Articles are diverse, well-written, read out loud (no TTS as far as I can tell). The in-app dictionary is good, though opening a word's definition in Pleco would make it even better. Unfortunately the app requires subscription fees now. I would gladly pay a reasonable one-time fee, but can't afford a monthly subscription. Also there has been too many crashes lately, making the app practically unusable. I would advise the developers to enhance the free version.

H70%
by H####:

I can't increase the font size. Please give this opportunity to users. They will thank you. Different users like different font sizes. I will add 5 stars when this option is enabled. (put 2 stars to attract your attention. If you solve this issue, the app will be unbeatable. I'm ready to buy a paid version or even a subscription. BTW, add export to Anki)

Q70%
by Q####:

The only thing that would make this app better would be English translation for each article to help me understand tricky sentences that don't make sense just by using a dictionary.

Q70%
by Q####:

It reads the article. Very simple way to learn Chinese with keywords and idiom. Besides, the article is categorise by different HSK level. I use it in conjunction with Hanping Pro dictionary. Highly recommended for those who want to learn in an interesting and informative context.

D70%
by D####:

Happy it provides information about the grammar in the text, the audio is not auto-generated, the app is easy to use and carries a simple design

W70%
by W####:

This app is very functional, works great and never crashes, and coordinates seamlessly with the website. The content of The Chairman's Bao is great in terms of both quantity and quality. I was unsure about paying for a subscription at first, but I fully recommend it. I have improved my reading ability and vocabulary, as well as gaining insight into current events and trends in the Sinosphere. Thanks guys, for a truly great product!

C70%
by C####:

Can get a little slow sometimes but I absolutely love it. The articles are perfect for those learning Chinese; they aren't too long plus are informative and relevant to current events. Also, each article comes with a very smooth audio recording so you can better your hearing skills as well.

Q70%
by Q####:

TCB has good content at a good level of difficulty—challenging but not insurmountable. The app itself however is laggy on the overview screen and has an issue with bad/useless definitions (e.g. "old variant of X") getting displayed ahead of useful ones. The subscription isn't super cheap but is fairly priced and worth it. The articles tend to lag several weeks behind current news, not a big deal.

Q70%
by Q####:

Awesome app. Given the boring traditional methods I experienced at uni this is far more enjoyable and accessible. This will teach you practical vocab and encourage a wider Base of students to start learning mandarin or continue to develop their existing skills. Take a 'Bao! '

Q70%
by Q####:

Hi, once I open an article it just crashes. Furthermore, I cannot listen to the audio, while buffering it crashes as well. =(

Q70%
by Q####:

Registering took 40 seconds waiting for a spinning circle, and the app lags like crazy. Freezes frames constantly. I also hate that I can't set traditional characters to default, you have to click it on every article which is stupid.

Fantastic app for language learning. Nice flashcard function, and love the option to listen to sentences spoken by native speakers. Yes it used to be free, but that couldn't last forever. Worth the $

TCB the best tool for improving your Chinese. The integration of the grammar, vocabulary, and interesting, provocative articles. It has slowly developed over the last year, getting better and better. The native Chinese narration of the articles is the best way to maintain, improve your listening. I hope it is supported by the user base. Nothing good is free - at least not indefinitely.

I understand that the developers want to make this a business, and it's a quality app. However, if I'm going to pay for this I expect it to work. So far, the word bank feature still doesn't work. Edit: When I try adding words to a group, it doesn't work. The menu only shows the text, and when I click on an already made group or add new group, nothing happens.

Actually i have been learning Chinese for three years now and since i have been learning it, i have never seen a full packaged application that can really aid in your Chinese studies like this app. Its just so nice. When i started using this application, it gave me that sense of hope again. Now with this application not only that i can improve my Chinese learning but also i get to know the Current affairs of China. I don't mind paying for this application. It deserves it. Five Stars for me. Nice app. Cool

Ni hao pengyous! Personally i have always found traditional language textbooks to be over simplified yet confusing and boring. The Chairmans Bao app uses an innovative and unqiue platform to make learning Mandarin engaging, personal and fun! TCB enables me to study on the go at my convienence and has helped greatly in improving my writing, reading and speaking over the last 3 months! The subscription fee is definitely worth it for all the amazing content and app features a traditional textbook can't offer!

Q70%
by Q####:

The awesome new features that were promised turned out to be just one "feature" - the app becoming paid-only. Shame. I used to like reading TCB, and even recommend it to some of my friends. But I will stop using it, because 10usd per month is simply not reasonable

V70%
by V####:

Personally I think this app is absolutely fantastic, not only in the content produced, but also with regards to the entire platform. The app does require some minor improvements, but on the whole, no other app can compare with TCB in article quality and article volume. There are other free options available, however none of which engage me and provide me with the amount of high-quality content and functionality I need to genuinely improve my Mandarin. Well done TCB, keep up the good work.

The app is great for listening on the move. But I seem to have a problem with the vocabulary and grammar audio. No sound when audio is pressed. What is wrong?
