About Calleva
Walk round the town walls of Calleva Atrebatum, the Roman Town now known as Silchester, learning about what remains of the town and what archaeologists have learnt from their excavations about life in Roman Britain.
Silchester is just south of Reading, in Hampshire, and is easily reached by car, train or bicycle. Founded in the Iron Age it became an important Roman Town but was abandoned around 400AD and has remained almost untouched since. You can walk around the walls, visit the amphitheatre and see where archaeologists from the University of Reading have been excavating a small section of the town since 1997.
Use the App to prepare for your visit or listen to Professor Mike Fulford from the University of Reading explaining each feature as you walk past.
