Iridium Flag

Iridium Flag is a satellite prediction application for forecasting Iridium flares.

The Iridium communication satellites are part of a world-wide system for mobile communications operating in six orbital planes at an altitude of almost 800km.

The satellites have three flat, highly reflective, mission antennas which reflect sunlight onto the surface of the earth. To an observer this appears as a brief, bright flash - or flare - in the sky with a duration of several seconds.

Unlike other similar applications which use flare information from an external supplier - the website Heavens Above, for example - Iridium Flag calculates flares for your current location using orbital information supplied by NORAD. This means that you can continue to generate predictions without a network connection.

- real-time ground-tracking
- flare predictions, ground track mapping, and countdown indication
- responsive sky map using device orientation to enable easy identification
(only available on devices with a magnetometer sensor)

Iridium Flag requires
- network permissions to enable NORAD element updates and Google Map functionality
- location permissions to be able to predict iridium flares for your location
- phone state permissions to enable Google Play Licensing validation against your unique device ID
