Nearly all of our students and many of our fans and followers have asked the age old question "What should I charge for my cakes ?".
At The Cake Makery, our advice is simple - first start with the basic cost for you to make a cake, this includes the ingredients for the cake, the sugar paste that you cover it and the buttercream that you fill it with.
In order to assist you with this, we have launched our first The Cake Makery App for Android, iPhone, and iPad.
It contains a recipe for a standard celebration sponge cake that our head teacher Louise Wilson created over 20 years ago, and has used successfully thousands of times over the years. The recipe can be made as a plain sponge, or chocolate cake, both equally delicious and moist!
The recipe has been broken down so that you can choose the size of tin that you are baking for. Check the "Update Ingredient Prices" section and add in the latest prices for your ingredients, and it will automatically work out all the costs for the cake and the buttercream in all sizes from 6" - 13" round to 5" to 12" square.

How to level a cake

We give not one, but two different ways to level your cakes, both methods are very simple, and work every time. This section also gives instructions on how to fill your cake and crumb coating ready for covering with sugar paste.
How to cover a cake

Detailed instruction on how to cover a cake, including tips on dealing with air bubbles, square cakes, icing the cake and the board together, and icing the board separately.
Working with sugarpaste
-----------------------
Do you get confused with all the different 'paste' terminology? From sugar paste to modeling paste, flower paste or is it gum paste? What are they all and which one should I use?
We also tell you how to make your own modeling paste, and give you tips on colouring your paste too.
This is the first version of the app, and we are giving this away completely free of charge. Future versions are being worked on and will include the ability to add your own ingredients and build your own recipes.

I love this app. I have an android and though the font is slightly larger than the field, it isn't horrible. The lettering is still visible and clear to read. I still have to do conversions, but that isn't a terrible thing. We, as bakers, should be able to flex our math skills in the kitchen. The bottomline is that I love this app. It makes pricing cakes breezy. To all home bakers and small business owners, like myself, I recommend this app. You will not regret it.

I checked the box to use cups in the recipes and i still have to convert it to ounces. Can yall plz fix this. I bought this app to keep the guesswork out of things and i constantly have to convert ny ingredients which is annoying

I thought the Pro version would be much better, but it wasn't. It was a complete waste of money. It doesn't save the manual change to US measurements and is very limited. I would not recommend this App to other bakers.

It worked great until the phone upgraded a couple of days ago. I certainly am not upgrading to pro yet not paying for something that pants out after phone upgrade. When will this be fixed? I have un installed and re installed several times to no avail. Very disappointed. .

I had difficulty calculating cake cost, but it's so much easier with this app. The only thing that would make it better is if you guys added more ingredients and stuff like cake sta ds, circles etc... and the best would be if you could calculate several sizes at the same time like for multitier cakes.l

Over all, it's a good tool. I just wish it would allow you to add your own recipes and their cost, allow you to add more product and their prices, and the option to calculate tiers as well as single floors.
