Norwich: Heritage City for Android
Once I downloaded it and tried to run it the app just stuck at a start screen before simply crashing with a 'Norwich has stopped' pop-up. The humour of the pop-up aside, it's no use. I persuaded my wife to try it as well in case it was my phone, same result.
I lived in Norwich for several years and this was a nice app for exploring the city and learning new things. You can check in and achieve challenges by visiting different sets of places which I like a lot!
This is an informative app, and worth installing. It does however require 148Mb of storage space. I assume that is so that the app will work offline, but it should be considered before installing. The app does not quit upon using the Android "back" button, and the only way to get out of it is to use the Android "home" button, so it remains running unless it is forced to quit. The layout and menu are rather sluggish and cumbersome, and it only works in portrait mode. Finally, at the bottom of many descriptions there is a paragraph and photographs about Ghent, presumably Ghent, Norfolk, USA (although that is by no means clear). Why? As far as I can see, that just adds to the huge memory requirement.
The memory issue is the only one I have - so far it works fine, and is a fascinating resource
This is a large download and takes several minutes to download on a hi-speed wifi connection. Then, the first time you launch, there is another large download!!! When installed, app is quite slow to respond making it very frustrating to use. It also only works in portrait mode, which is a shame, as this app would benefit greatly from landscape viewing and use. It's a good idea poorly implemented.
The app is very well-layouted and contains relevant information about many places in Norwich. The map feature is extremely useful. It's great for planning walking trips around Norwich. The file is bigger than other apps, but it's well worth the download!
