About Catch It

Catch It is a joint project between the Universities of Liverpool and Manchester, to help users better understand their moods through use of an ongoing diary.

The app was designed to illustrate some of the key principles of psychological approaches to mental health and well-being, and specifically Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

It is not intended to be a substitute for professional mental health care, therapy or advice. If you are worried about any aspects of your mental health, you should approach a professional.

Great app, definitely helps you to challenge thought processes that contribute to negative emotions. I think this would be helpful for anybody. The only downside is that the app doesn't work the same for positive emotions such as happiness.

Love the interface. Hate the pin screen. If a pin is required, I wish, upon opening, the cursor was already in the pin field. And if your pin is supposed to be 4 digits, why are you allowed to type 4+ digits?? See Daylio app and their pin screen. Please copy their's.

I wanted something to use because I have anxiety issues but right now Im at home, in bed, petting my dog. I decided to test the app, I said I was relaxed, I felt strong about it and it and that my feelings didnt change and it said thats a shame? It is a shame that Im relaxed? Wtf???!

This app works GREAT & is very useful for people who are in a treatment program; whether it's for mental illnesses such as, drug addiction & all the other types of addiction, depression,anxiety, bipolar disorder, dual diagnosis, etc.

The app is great for recognizing and recording your negative thoughts. The only issue I have with the app is that it seems like you cannot edit your entries and it is not recording the What Happened section. Those problems can easily be fixed. All in all it is great app.

as a diary concept it is good. I think it is quite useful to look back at your day and reflect upon your moods and recall the situations and analyze them. although I would use emoticons/pictures to represent emotions rather than words like "anxious"/"depressed because they're too black-and-white and it's never like that with moods. intuitively if you're happy or depressed you don't really feel like putting this down in a diary you're too busy. the "take a second to reflect" function is not very intuitive.

couldn't even have texts appear for a sign-in!! only blank turquose red colors appeared.. :( :( :(

Whenever I'm emotionally charged, the phrasing and guidance of the questions really helps to calm me down. And while sometimes my depression just manifests as emptiness, its more often anger. So this is good for getting me into the habit of not using the flight/fight response.

I don't understand why apps such as these list very few emotions/moods to choose from. If you need to log an unlisted mood you have to choose "other" which does no good when you look at your tracking record and see "other" -- come on guys, add an option to let the user customize the emotions/moods list!!

I actually wrote I was happy and after reflection it was still the same level. I get that if we pick negative thoughts reviewing should improve rating but for the app to tell me off for not improving on a happy thought is wrong. Still want to try it for longer though.

Great app and idea, and I am sure it will generate a ton of useful data and hopefully help people recognize and examine their emotional states, and consider more useful and positive ways of thinking. Sadly, positive or transcendental experience is not something the app can help reinforce. The positive psych/solution focused idea of doing more of what works needs to be built in as well.

I like this app. However it is not recording the 'what happened' section. I can fill it in, but it doesn't show up in the diary. This makes it difficult as I can't see what upset my mood in the first place and there is no option for editing diary entries (unless I missed it).
