About Trusted Tiny Things
The Trusted Tiny Things application has been developed as a part of a research project funded by the UK Research Councils' Digital Economy IT as a Utility Network+ (EP/K003569/1) and the dot.rural Digital Economy Hub (EP/G066051/1) at the University of Aberdeen.
The project is exploring how technology can make Internet of Things devices more transparent to users. IoT devices can have certain capabilities that are not well advertised. For example, certain devices can be configured to send personally identifiable data to third-party companies. Users should be informed and have the ability to decline the use of this devices if they are not happy with such capabilities.
The app is free to use but it is currently limited to one type of device (NFC tags attached to bus stops in Aberdeen City and Shire).
Features:
• Retrieves information about a IoT device including capabilities and qualities
• Stores accepted devices in a catalogue
• Explores data that are collected by the device
• Gives access to profiles of the organisations associated with IoT devices
• v1.1beta Tracks which devices were declined by you
• v1.2beta User can now access real time bus service from anywhere.
Permissions:
• Phone calls - we only need this permission to use your mobile id for identification in our system, we DO NOT access your phone calls or any other confidential and personal data.
• Network communication- we are using this permission so we can read near field communication tags. We also require full network access in order to save your accepted device capabilities and retrieve information about them.
