Rotation Lock Adaptive (Free) for Android
Hard to not appreciate the simplicity/elegance/hard-work @this price & even size. Truely a great interface, well thought out & kept really simple. I cant help raving about it. Every person who has a phone with auto-rotate trying to use the same while lying down would've come across what a pain auto-rotate represents & what an elegant solution your app presents. After you see this, it makes you wonder why dint anyone think of this before?
Only app that keeps fullscreen videos in Portrait mode. I have a lot of apps that dig deep into Android; so it's expected for one of my apps to break something on my phone. So, now, one of my apps has broken landscape mode, and if I change to landscape, SystemUI will stop and restart the phone. I always forget that this happens when watching YouTube, so it will change landscape on fullscreen and crash my phone. So I looked for a force-rotation app and this is the only one that stopped YouTube from going landscape on fullscreen. Nice.
My phone (ZTE Blade X Max) does not rotate upside down, thus it doesn't rotate all the way around, like my old phone did... wanted that functionality back... was hoping that the force auto mode would do that... it does not. Will not be buying the premium version. Not sure if this is an app issue or a hardware issue (ie cheap sensor that can't tell if the phone is upside down or not) AND the dev does have this trial version so I'll give 3 stars even though it fails to do what I perceived to be what it advertises it does.
my only quibble - since the purpose of the app is to minimize keystrokes needed to control screen attitude, and since on bringing up the app, it displays to the currently selected mode, and since the two most likely modes are 'adaptive' and 'stock auto' - those two choices should be in the middle of the list. IMHO. otherwise, I'm loving it! ;-)
This app solves the frustration of having to keep turning the phone when swapping apps; it even allows the home and lock screens to rotate (if you turn on those options). I love the"cube" in the landscape lock. Reverse landscape is especially good for me, because in the standard landscape I keep hitting the volume and power buttons by mistake.
The function of this app is so intuitive and genius, it shouldn't even be an app as much as it should be built in to every mobile OS. Nothing is more smooth. Nothing is more natural. I love this app and I dearly hope I'll never have to operate a device without it. Fantastic.
Other screen rotation apps had issues on TW with stock camera use. Rotation while using the camera would cause the "buttons" to disappear. This is solid. Yes, only 4 stars for now. Once I've used it issue free for a week or so I'll happily give the 5th.
What differentiates this app from others is that it prompts the user first whether it wants to rotate the screen or not. Sadly, I cannot hide the notification option which I think will keep the app running in the background. Worried that it may consume more battery.
Fantastic on my Note 4. Prevents those random rotations from an unintentional turn of the phone. Not yet functional on my 12.2 with Jellybean 4.4.2, looking forward to that. (Or is it phone only?) Great program!
Works perfectly. No more losing work cuz phung rotation collapses app, folding up expanded pages never to be seen again. And doesn't require access to everything down to your underwear.
Auto rotate had broken on my Samsung S7 for reasons I have not yet discovered. Downloaded Adaptive Rotation Lock and whilst it couldn't auto rotate my phone in response to me physically turning the phone; it could manually revert between portrait and landscape which meant I had freedom of choice again when it came to display and photo capture. Woke up this morning with phone fully functioning so overall I give it 5 stars as it was a great temporary solution!
It places the rotate icon on the screen when you turn your phone/tablet. It will then only rotate if you select the button, which disappears in a few seconds. So it rotates when I want it to. The other big feature is it does a forced rotate of many apps that won't rotate normally. This makes those turn.
My device is samsung galaxy note 2 and cannot do landscape notably on home screen on stock touchwiz.... landscape view is very useful e.g. when used as gps/multimedia/phone device in the car on top of the dash... as added bonus it also rotate apps that originally does not rotate (like path's home screen, with minor imperfections of course ;))... so good now my wife's S4 also have it too... all in all 1) it do what it says exactly 2) it does it well 3) efficient footprint (small app size) 4) it's FREE
This app (for free if you choose not to donate, but really you should), does what it claims. It overcomes my biggest gripe with some software where the dev locks the rotation. This app has freed the rotation lock on every app I've tested. Well done dev, no question about it being worth 5 stars and the donation.
When I initially installed this app, I was very impressed. However, after a couple days of use I started to have problems with my screen not responding to my touch. Since my Galaxy SII has seen a lot of usage, I initially thought there was an issue with the phone. However, if I turned this software off, the screen again responded properly. I've done several tests and am pretty confident that the issue is with the software. :( So, my search for a rotation app continues.
In always think that there should be a physical button to quickly enable the auto rotate function. When I use the phone on bed, the stupid phone always change the orientation, or, it won't change when I wanted it to. This app simply put that button on the center of the screen. Nice work. Low consumption, great function.
This app does all what I need it to do,well, nearly. I got the paid for version but in my experience on HTC one didn't work too well. Can't remove notification, slightly laggy and I didn't get a chance to try the per app setting . All I want is to auto rotate the home screen and this does exactly that, perfectly. I emailed the dev about my experience with the paid for app and hope it gets sorted soon.
Great app, I really like it. Very useful very responsive. Do exactly what i wanted it to do. My only complaint is that the vibration turn on or off is only pay version. And i would like to try it out before I buy it. After all its money we are talking about here. Sadly
I own a Droid 4. Famously, this device comes out of the box being able to allow the home screen to rotate, and then after a week or so, it won't without the physical keyboard opened up. Suddenly, along comes this amazing app that not only *instantly* overcame that issue, but it forced other apps that aren't even designed to rotate to do so! It is true that you'll discover some apps look weird when they rotate since they designers never programmed them to do so, but most look great!
I use my phone in landscape a lot as a sat nav. When a call comes in the screen would turn back to portrait. Also when locked, it went to portrait. This made doing pattern lock difficult. Not any more. This app is ace. Will pay for the paid version. Respect.
This App was working fine until the software update. The screen would be cut in half (half of the screen is black) when I was taking picture with the original camera app that comes with the phone. This happened everytime when this adaptive rotation app is enabled.
Seriously, a constant icon in my notification bar to try to annoy me into donating? Probably would have donated but this underhanded behavior is something I can't encourage so uninstalled.
Screen rotation on Galaxy S5 stopped working. Tried others but found that this app allows changing screen orientation "on the fly" by means of a screen icon that overlays your display, which works perfectly when I need it.
P.O.S. The effect of "force landscape" on my LG G3's default launcher was horrific, with the five (fixed) apps that are at the bottom of the screen instead being along the right side. (A picture would help explain.)
Explicit selecting of Portrait or Landscape does work, though. Needs revising. Free version, Nexus 7 2B16, Marshmallow. Update: Still true; rebooting might /not/ fix problem! Dev. notified. 2016-07-10, still true 2016-10-05.
This is really a great idea. So perfect in fact, it should be the way Android works by default. The floating icon that shows up for a few seconds is perfect. Prevents unwanted rotation, yet allows rotations so easily when actually desired. One suggestion. There should be an option to let you choose how long the floating icon is visible.
I may be the only one or the only one that pays attention, but the app after running for a extended period of time seems to cut on and off. In the process messing with other apps as well as not performing its function. I have uninstalled and reinstalled yet the problem persists. Other than that very annoying bug when the app works it does what it claims.
Started turning off on Me as well. And would do so after it inverted the screen.I used this app for quite some time with no issues then just run amuck.

At my Samsung tablet this is standard. At my Samsung phone not. This results in broken charging and earphone cables. Not sure why Samsung wants to have unhappy customers. The worst thing was the update of my phone to Android 4.4 and blocking so the write access to the SD card. Strange concepts.
Edit: it works now; 5* Previously:App Quits unexpectedly and takes a few minutes to restart.... But restarts in portrait :( Fix that glitch and this Life saver for use with car cradle will get 5* again. Galaxy nexus.
I used to love this app on my SGS 2. Now I still like it on my Xperia Z3, but I'm having a problem with the stock camera app being stuck in a bizarre half-screen twist that is difficult to get out of. The only thing I've found that reliably works is to disable Adaptive Rotation Lock when I want to use the camera, but this is frustrating. The stock "Smart Rotate" option is good in theory, but in practice it's not just as satisfying as the good old Adaptive Lock padlock icon. I guess what I'm building up to is: Please could you provide a free trial of the per-app settings feature, as someone else has asked for? Oh, and the stock Xperia Z3 camera app leaves a lot to be desired for a smartphone of this calibre...
It was extremely frustrating switching from Apple to Android and losing the option of being able to rotate and lock the screen in any position I wanted. It may not sound like a big deal, but I actually used that feature pretty often for various reasons. I did not think this app would work completely and do everything I wanted it to do, and I was right. IT DOES SO MUCH MORE! It has made my phone experience so more enjoyable than I have the word count left to describe! Love it!
This is really useful for reading in bed. It'd be nice if you updated some of the assets for higher resolution phones so the icons aren't blurry.
This is the best one I tried! It is the only one that allows for an inverted lock screen, and it has the most streamlined switching mechanism (translucent button that disappears if you don't want to switch).
I agree with some of the other comments, works exactly how I wanted but it should disable it self when the phone is locked and re-enable when unlocked. Another suggested feature would be to have a landscape mode where you could have it switch from normal landscape to reverse landscape depending on the orientation of the phone (like the netflix app when you are watching a video). The same for portrait as well. Overall useful.
My phone doesn't rotate any more after I uninstalled please don't download our you could get the same virus!!! Set it to "stock auto" before you uninstall
got the app to stop weird rotation and first thing it does is to switch my rotation on start. after activating force lock mode it also rotates to portrait if I hold my tablet in landscape, complete fail...
It is excellent yes? Ja, ja excellent. It allows me to play knights of pen and paper lying down tis good ja good. And when i turn over little icon appears and is good is good.
