慧炬機構

民國四十一年，慧炬機構創辦人周宣德居士（西元1899～1989）在參訪台灣各地佛教團體後，為導正一般大眾對佛教消極、迷信，及神佛不分的普遍現象，決定推動知識青年學佛，宣揚正信佛教，引導大眾對佛法建立正知正見。
民國四十九年，在周居士的推動輔導下，台灣大學晨曦學社獲准成立，這是國內大專院校第一個成立的佛學社團，首開大專學生研究佛學的風氣。之後，包括師大、政大、中興大學等九十七所國內大專院校聞風興起、競相仿傚，先後跟進成立佛學社團，大專學生研究佛學之風氣，勃然而起，蔚然而興，成為世人所豔稱之「大專青年學佛運動」。周居士擎舉的智慧之火，不僅開啟佛教帶動大專知識青年學佛的首頁，同時也為居士弘法樹立典範。

爾後，周居士為了鼓勵大專青年研讀佛學，提供學佛青年發表佛學專文的園地，在加拿大僑領詹勵吾居士的贊助下，於民國五十年成立「財團法人慧炬雜誌社」，除發行《慧炬雜誌》贈閱各校佛學社團及社會大眾外，並定期舉辦佛學社團負責人座談會──「慧炬粥會」，促進大專佛學社團之間的交流，成為推動大專青年學佛的中心機構。

同時，為了弘宣佛法的大量出版需要，由美國佛教會沈家楨居士資助成立「財團法人慧炬出版社」，出版佛學書籍達百餘種，流通海內、外，廣受讀者喜愛。周居士並與國內外緇素大德設立「慧炬大學院校佛學論文徵文獎學金」，鼓勵學佛青年研究佛學，獎勵將心得撰寫論文。歷年來，許多受到佛法薰陶的獎學金獲獎青年學子，畢業後投入社會，成為中堅、菁英分子，對於振興佛教、弘揚佛法、淨化社會風氣及提升倫理道德等，均能發揮正面作用。類此，周居士又陸續成立「財團法人詹煜齋居士佛教文化獎學基金會」、「財團法人紀念余家菊先生文教獎學基金會」及「中華慧炬佛學會」等佛教公益團體；上述單位合稱為「慧炬機構」。

　　慧炬機構自創辦以來，弘法利生的志業未曾間斷，除持續發行《慧炬雜誌》、出版佛學書籍、頒發「大學院校佛學論文徵文獎學金」外，並長期舉辦各種佛學課程、佛法修行活動、關懷社會公益講座，及藝文輔導與涵養身心兼備的「國小學童作文寫作班」等。今後，仍將秉持周宣德居士創辦宗旨，繼續堅守在菩提道上努力耕耘，讓慧炬之光如同無盡燈一般，燃亮千千萬萬的佛法燈火，照亮人間光明。期待社會各界大德及善心人士，能惠予支持與贊助，讓慧炬志業永續發展，繼往開來。 During a 44-year, Hui Ju agency founder Zhouxuan De Lay (AD 1899 to 1989) in Taiwan after travel around the Buddhist community as a positive guide for the general public Buddhism negative, superstitions, and deities, regardless of the widespread phenomenon, decided Zhishiqingnian promote Buddhism, Buddhist promote positive, to guide the public to establish Dharma sampajanna right view.
