SMS Backup

I just downloaded this app and its pretty cool. The thing i dont like is when looking at the saved messages, they have the time stamp of when backup was performed. Depending on the reason for the backup you might need that original date. In my case i do. Please update the app to show original tevts dates and/or times. Thank You.

So it makes a folder then sends the backed up messages to that folder within gmail so's not to polite your email and keeping your texts seperate. It also stores them in conversation format instead of individual emails. Very good. Now if we could have a restore from gmail... that would be slick.

I love what it does! I would only like it to do a few more things: 1) be able to delete all my texts on my phone; 2) verify that ALL of my ~10,000 current texts ARE backed up (how can I tell when it does 200 max. at a time?); 3) run better as a background app (my backups are stopping themselves when the screen turns off). Aside from those three things, this app is a FIVE! I wanted an app that I could back up my messages in a searchable archival form (Gmail) so that I could delete them off my phone and free up valuable space -- now I can limit my max texts on my phone without worrying about having to reference back to something that's been long deleted.

Great app but it seems to skip some messages. While looking through my email for the texts, there are texts missing in conversations. It does not seem to back up the entire conversation. Dont know how to fix it or if its a glitch. I love that it works out of sight, so to speak, and that all of my messages go straight to my gmail. Really great app. Just wished it backed every message.

Worked perfectly on my old G-1. Has been working perfectly for over a year on my Desire-Z. Just stays in the background and gets on with it. Have never had any errors or complains from it. I sometimes forget it's there but my SMS messages are always there in gmail labelled 'SMS'. I filter them out of the inbox - it's just for backup after all.

I really like this app because I can use it to save proof of conversation with my daughter's mother as she keeps denying me visitations. I do however wish I could pick and choose what contacts to backup the conversations of instead of having to weed throuh all of he backed up SMS messages in my gmail.

I've been using this for a few years now on my original Droid and my HTC Thunderbolt and have been quite happy with it. It does exactly what it says, unobtrusively and efficiently. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4), so I've moved on to SMS Backup+

I've used this app for over a year. Was once one of my favorite apps... but hasn't been doing automatic backup since about jan 2012.. Emailed developer and was never contacted back. I uninstalled

Have used this app a few years with no problem. However, I noticed it has not backed up any texts since early January for some reason. Keep getting a login error message, but email settings have not changed and IMAP is enabled. Needs to be fixed ASAP. Can't figure out a way to get it syncing again.

Used it for years flawlessly, now it apparently no longer meets google security standards. Google sends an email stating that it doesn't meet modern security standards when it attempts to log in and back-up. Such a shame to loose this, it was a great and simple app. :(

5 stars when it works...1 star when it doesn't. HTC Sensation 4g upgraded to ICS and app stopped working. Downloaded Jan Bertel's SMS Backup Plus because it integrated with Google. It didn't work either. Please fix. Been using this for over a year and do a lot if texting in my business. They're piling up!

I think you have to have a Gmail account, but I have plenty of those, AND Yahoo accounts. I just REALLY like to save almost everything, to remember what I said to whom, and when... (: ..... Then, people who don't remember exactly what was said, I just read it back to them).. (: ... I TOTALLY LOVE THIS APP. IT COULDN'T BE SIMPLER! I loved this app with all my heart and soul! It was thee best way to prove someone wrong, free myself from any wrong doing and saved my relationship from being ruined! backed up every single message and was a life saver. Now every hour all I see is the message telling me that it has stopped. What's going on! Totally heart breaking. Fix it now!!!!!!!!

I've used this ap for YEARS and until recently had no problems. I've not been able to back up my msgs in over month. It's force closed more times than I can count and reported every time. I've emailed the creator several times with no response. Looks like ill be uninstalling this ap right now.....

I have had this app for a while and it was doing everything it said it would...however suddenly it has not been working...I get force close/report all the time or an error message that it stopped unexpectedly. I have tried reaching out to the developer via the report on the app and email and yet to receive a response...very disappointed. I hope to hear something from someone.

Does the job of backing up msgs to gmail but does take a few clicks to do them all. Easy, browser-free connection to gmail. Back up status bar sometimes freezes but program still works away in the background so be patient!

I've noticed that long text messages that come across as MMS don't get backed up at all. This is disappointing as it means parts of a conversation thread go missing. I'm on an LG G2.

This worked great on my maxx with last OS. Now that it's on ice cream sandwich it does not seem to work. Please work on this because this is 1 of my favorite applications. I use it to track telephone calls for work. Once you get it working I will rate it back to 5 stars.

I installed this as i really needed something to back up my SMS conversations and I went through step by step and did everything i was instructed to do and when I selected "back up" it found nothing to back up. If anyone has a solution I would be happy to hear it and then review my review.

This app was very useful to me in saving a series of conversations that will be used in a small claims court battle over unpaid work hours with my former employer. My only complaint is that it does not seem able to select specific conversations to backup and export as a PDF, and instead pulls 100's of random conversations and backs them all up. It took 1 hour for the app to get to the conversation I wanted, but regardless, it was very valuable.

This app did a great job of storing all of my SMSes in Gmail for the last two years. It suffered a bit from bitrot and now force closes for me all the time. I have moved on to SMS Backup + which also does MMS all in the same way. Thanks for the great app!

I've not been able to successfully use this app on my new HTC One. I've emailed support several times without any feedback. I've enabled IMAP in GMail but it still doesn't work. Prior this phone I would've given this app 5 stars!

FYI - you have to type in your Google username and password. No option just to save backup to the phone. Huge security risk if you ask me. How do you know the developer is not accessing your Google account? You don't.

Just tried this App and it seems flawless so far. BUT, for some reason many (most) of the Received SMS backed up to GMail have been time stamped with a -4:00 offset (I am EDT). The problem then is that these sort out of order in GMail. Frustrating and weird.

I've been using this program for a couple of years and it's been wonderful. I just updated my Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket to the official ice cream sandwich OS and now it crashes everytime it runs. Please update.

using v 1.1.1. HTC One M8. A tiny program that has one job to do, and does it well. no fuss, no ads, no internal storage space hogging. Backs up SMS messages to gmail. That's all it needs to do and it does it without any problems. Why the Berkel SMS Backup+ app by comparison needs to be 1mb before install to do the same job is beyond me. N.b. This seems to be abandonware, but whilst it works well, I'll happily use it.

Such a fail! Used to work like a charm on hTc Legend. Upgraded to Galaxy Nexus and since then it throws up error! Time to look for substitute.

Figured out why incoming SMS weren't being backed up. If you're having this problem, try installing an "SMS Time Fix" app :-). (Droid Pro)

Doesn't work with newer Android! I'm going to have to look elsewhere now, after using this otherwise perfect app for a good couple of years. Developer given it up?

Used to rate 5 stars. Now it barely backs up texts I have received, while the ones I send are backed up out of order. What gives?

Can you please just fix this app for those who are suffering from the ICS update? We've all been waiting for the longest time and NOTHING is happening.

I've been using this application for over a year with absolutely no problem, until I updated the Android version to 4.0.3. Since then it crashes every time I get a text message, and doesn't allow me to run it manually. What a shame, but it'll have to go.

Love it . Does exactly what I need. But does NOT Work on my new EVO 4g LTE!! It crashes when performing any back up :( I really liked this app on my old hero phone

Droid Ultra: App seems simple enough. But does not work. IMAP is enabled at my computer, ID and password check out okay. I have tried it over wireless and 4G. Nothing. Moving on to the next app.

my current device is HTC sensation after getting the android 4.0 update the back up instantly fail pls fix it I have tried reinstalling the app but it just doesnt help

OMG best thing I downloaded. Just wish it organized them a little better in my Gmail account. Over all, I love it!!!

I've been using this app for over a year. Very useful to have all my texts backed up on my Gmail.

Solid app .. until you find out you can't restore when you inadvertently hit 'clear dialer storage' on your HTC desire and wipe out your texts!

Force closes all the time on jellybean! Am going to have to look at other products, shame as this is perfect for my needs...

This is probably the best app on the marker. I almost forgot that its there. But every time I open my gmail labeled sms, i figure out that its perfec!
