Everytime i select a show, the app crashes. Not the servers fault either.

R70%
by R####:

Brilliant! Yes, the app seems is a bit basic, but with the correct server setup, it works great! Streaming obviously depends on your bandwidth, but I've had no issues streaming 4K and 1080p x264/x265 videos to my Shield TV. I recommend this over Plex because it's open source and doesn't track any telemetry.

U70%
by U####:

This needs a lot of work. I would like to be able to alter the home screen view and arrange movie and TV sections

U70%
by U####:

Can't connect outside my home network via my friends shield. No useful help pages and tried official forum etc.

K70%
by K####:

Works well on Sony Android TV but has intermittent loss of sound (1-2 secs) during playback of video files with AC3 encoding. Works fine with AAC and DTS.

U70%
by U####:

Good app except for the aspect ratio. Everything that is in an other aspect ratio than my 16:9 1080p tv gets stretched out. Please fix this. Add a button like in the non TV app (cropped / zoomed / best fit) or something like that. Using DLNA via Kodi on my Android tv for now.

M70%
by M####:

Stops playback often. The Audio is off for many TV shows, but most movies are fine. The interface is way better than Kodi, so I'll give it that.

U70%
by U####:

I have to adjust audio -200ms on playback for my Nexus Player. For my Nvidia Shield TV, or my laptop, this is not a problem. I can play the same video on the other devices, and the audio is perfectly sync'd, but on my Nexus Player, it is not. My laptop is using the web emby, and my Nvidia shield and Nexus Player are using the emby for android tv. I am hesitant to purchase premiere because of this :/

I've got this app installed on an Nvidia Shield Android TV box, and it works really well!

Awesome program until I did a fresh install now they want $5. Guess I shouldn't have done a reinstall.

We can't seek to particular time while watching video. Missing very basic feature.

Loved it

First review: Great app, but subtitles were buggy and video playlists were not supported. Updated: Both issues were fixed and i received prompt support on their forums. Neither of those things could be said for Plex customer service. I have since cancelled my PlexPass and have switched to Emby. Keep up the great work :)

stops playing media after a week. emby premiere paywall. i used to love mb3, the pay4community code is sad.

Update: 5/13/16 i have been told by the developers that this app is for Android TVs. I don't understand why it would say that it is compatible with my devices if it's not build for them. I have no experience with Android TVs. Previous review: Trying to select a file is so incredibly frustrating! The menu snaps to a separate menu. That's not even mentioning the notifications that you can't dismiss. Ugh.

Latest release has dropped support for my android 4.4 box :(

T70%
by T####:

I had to buy a month subscription just to test playback on my smart TV (android 4.2.2). App works great ! It took some playing around with settings to get everything running smooth. With the latest app update, android 4.2.2 is no longer supported. So guess I'm stuck using Kodi.

T70%

I currently have the NVIDIA SHIELD and was really hoping for a better experience. The biggest issue is the no audio passthrough. If Plex can do it so can Emby. I really want to get rid of DirecTV but the live TV portion doesn't quite cut it especially without audio passthrough.

T70%
by T####:

Great app, but missing a couple things: 1) Ability to force/allow transcoding on the Android TV instead of on the server end 2) Ability to mass mark items watched. Other than that I love it, it's great!

Would not recommend this app. Currently have installed Plex, Kodi, and Emby on the same computer. They have great ideas: Bookshelf for pdfs, View inside archived files Otherwise they have the same features as Kodi or Plex.. Why the one star? Tunein - Didn't work, (Perhaps I didn't wait for long enough) Not all video's work, (Perhaps I didn't wait for long enough) Music didn't work, (Perhaps I didn't wait for long enough) Compared to Plex: Plex cost 50 dollars more for lifetime membership. Plex transcoding works flawlessly and faster You can add unsupported addons in Plex Compared to Kodi: Kodi is free As long as you don't add to many unsupported addons Kodi is stable, I'm not running this on a cheap machine: ASUS Sabertooth x99 ASUS STRIX GTX™ 980 64 Gigs of Ram Recommendation - grab Plex or kodi if you want easy to install software. Just don't use the unsupported addons unless you are willing to invest a little time into the software.

This app is fantastic, best app for AndroidTV. I have use or have tried Plex, SlingTV, Netflix, Pluto, etc.. Nothing is better for watching media. This app actually resulted in me getting a second Nexus player for another room. And now with Live TV It's even better!

This latest update plugged all the holes that were keeping it from being my complete HTPC solution. After Microsoft killed Netflix and damaged Live TV on Windows Media Center, this app allowed me to use the Nexus Player as the front end for my HTPC, and run the Windows box unmanaged and untouched in the background with Emby Server and it's support for ServerWMC for LiveTV. File playback of TV shows and movies is great, Live TV is now totally functional and usable. The only thing that was not 100% was that when starting playback of recorded TV, skipping commercials took a little bit longer than I liked... but that's only at the beginning of the playback. Once it buffers the video enough, it's very responsive to skip forwards and back.

One update to the next 5*-1*. Notifications won't clear. Select it and the app crashes. Restart my phone to clear this is just sad. Note 3

I love the way Emby plays, however its apps lack. The issue with this one is missing functionality. I cannot get subtitles to work at all. They only appear if I play my movie, stop it, and then resume it and even then when I try to start them the whole movie freezes. I thought it was maybe an issue with my server, but when I use my app on my phone and send movies to my tv via its broken Chromecast functionality I can show subtitles with no issues. The Android TV version is also missing a lot of the settings that can improve it that the android app version has.

U70%
by U####:

Completely unstable on Nexus Player. I wanted to see why someone might use this over Kodi with the Emby plugin but every time I go into a TV Series and click down twice to see the episodes in the series, the screen goes blank and it locks up.

I own a Sony 4K Android TV (KD-55X8505C). Generally the app seems to be good but I noticed that some features don't (always) work like resuming a video. Resuming mostly takes a while and then plays without sound. The fast-forward also sometimes causes the audio not to play anymore, the video lags a bit after forwarding and sometimes the complete playback stops. Also when navigating up in the on-screen controls for the playback the cursor disappears and won't come back. I'd suggest that these on-screen controls are changed to the default Android TV ones like those in Google Play Movies and YouTube. Also there doesn't seem to be a fast option to enable/change subtitles and audio tracks. I love that this App uses Material Design in most areas but it could be materialized a bit more.

The other Android app works great with EmbyTV for live TV and recordings. This one freezes up on a shield console.

T70%

I bought the nexus player to run this app but it is most of the time it's either a blank screen or a loading screen. When the video starts playing it's extremely choppy and useless. I have to force stop the app repeatedly. The app works great on my phone.

Very smooth.

Interface is clean with easy access to libraries. Playback is decent...audio does a very short skip at times, even connected at AC with server connected at full Gig. Look forward to future updates.

The latest version is working great. Ran into a few minor issues that turned out to not be related to the app. Developers were very helpful and responsive to feedback.

D70%

cannot read names of folders. more than 2 lines do not fit on screen. has a long way to go to beat plex.

N70%
by N####:

Interface is very poor, too much scrolling required to get where you want. No playlists from Emby server either...... Should have full integration from an official app!

S70%
by S####:

I installed emby on my Linux server and then on my nexus player looking for a free way to stream my videos. After a month I have to donate to continue using the app on the nexus player. For the money plex is a better choice less bugs, a lot less bugs. So I have uninstalled the app and will uninstall the server off of my server. My two cents worth don't force people to donate until the bugs are ironed out. I will use kodi which is still free and open source.
